View 9 Replies View RelatedThis game is Java based. After rebooting the game works, but on ending the game several notification boxes remain. If these boxes are not closed in the reverse order that the game opened them, it is no longer possible to close them. Only by killing the Java processes can these notifications be made to close. Also after playing the game, even if all these notifications are closed it is many times necessary to kill the Java process(es) in order to get the game to load again at a later time. I am currently using Slackware 1.30, but a similar problem has existed in several of the past releases.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi've installed 'ghost recon' which i downloaded via torrent. i open the executables with right-click and clicking executable, i guess this just used WINE automatically. it seems to download fine. i downloaded into a folder i called 'c:desktop' which i thought would make the files end up on my regular desktop, but i can't find them anywhere. when i run autorun.exe from the cd it opens, but when i click 'play ghost recon' is gives a dialog box saying it can locate the cd.

Slack version is 13.37
I've followed alien bobs instructions for a multilib environment from here:[url]
And then used sbopkg to download and compile wine version 1.2.2, which went through just fine.
After that I grabbed cabextract from sbopkg and ran this: wget [url] sh winetricks d3dx9 To get the DX9.
But, when I try to run the game, this is the error I get:

The game it self ran perfectly on the 32 bit version of Slackware, tested with 13.0. So now I think I'm missing some libs or something, but I have no clue which.
I have loaded Racer (http://www.racer.nl) in Wine. When I run the game I get the options box (it acts a bit strange, but does seem to work) adjust some settings, start the game & then the entire program goes away. dmesg/syslog shows the same error messages:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem using PGP encryption. I am running Windows 7 operating system. I have PGP working perfectly fine when running manually through DOS mode (cmd.exe): gpg -ase --always-trust --batch --passphrase myphrase --output c: estdir estfile.csv.pgp -r someword c:estdir estfile.csv
Now the problem happens when I am trying to run same script in Perl in the browser (Perl + IIS are installed locally on my PC). The error I am getting is: gpg: no default secret key: No secret key gpg: C:\testdir\testfile.csv: sign+encrypt failed: No secret key
From what I understand, the secret key is created under my user profile. IIS runs under some default user name, so it does not see the secret key. I am not sure how to solve this problem.
I want to do two things: Set up a virtual machine on Windows 7 to run Ubuntu Set up a way for the virtual machine to read the windows disk or windows to have read/write access to the virtual machine's disk. My goal is to have a place where both Ubuntu and Windows can read and write. What software is good for this task? Are their free programs that can run virtual machines? Also if my machine is running Windows 7 64-bit, can I install Ubuntu 32-bit? Or am I forced to use Ubuntu 64-bit? Or does it not matter?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can only get dial-up at home and need to install package upgrades upwards of 40MB, so.... pretty much impossible. When needed, I usually generate a download script and individually enter each line into a web browser on my Windows based work computer, which has broadband, saving to a USB drive.
The last upgrade though requires too many packages (230+) to do individually. Is there an easy, quick way to run the download scripts on a windows machine?

i just finished successfully installing a virtual machine and windows xp. the windows setup finished no errors, but now when i try to boot up it gives me the blue screen of death (see attachment). after the bsod it just reboots.
note: in the screenshot it doesn't look blue but it is. i couldn't pause it so then it would show blue so it ended up black.
In short, what I'd like to find is a workaround to install Grub2 onto a USB stick, from a PC running Windows, without using a GUI. After searching, I don't find any way to install Grub2 from Windows. I do have a nice little MS-DOS batch file that installs syslinux onto a USB stick. It's simple, fairly fool-proof, and I'd like to convert it to install Grub2.Did find an example of running grub-install without actually installing anything: grub-install --grub-setup=/bin/true /dev/sdaSo, IFAIKT, this just creates the Grub2 'boot.img' file, and maybe also modifies the 'core.img' file? Is that right? If so, then a little DOS utility to write a USB's MBR using the boot.img should work, yes?
However, I notice the boot.img file is 512 bytes. As I understand it, a drive's partition table is included in that space. I'd like to take that boot.img and use it to install Grub2 on any arbitrary USB stick, without altering the existing partition table. If I snip off the last 72 bytes so the image is only 440 bytes, it seems like this should work (assuming that every USB stick will have Grub2 installed in the /boot/grub subdirectory). If this sounds right, is there a DOS-based MBR update utility that you would recommend? I find several, such as MBRUtility, MBRWizard, and MBRFix, among others
I need to change the screen resolution, but there is no xorg.conf file.. Under system/preferences/screen resolution there is only 800x600 and 640x480 to choose from. I want at least 1024x780.

Does anyone know of any way (preferably fully documented/tutorialed, but even theoretical would be great) to remotely install Ubuntu to a machine currently running Windows...
We have 8 machines powering a digital signage system. The machines are not physically accessible (without extreme difficulty) and are currently running windows XP with a VNC server for control.
I want them to run Ubuntu instead. Is there any way anyone can think of that I can do this? My only thought so far is WUBI...but once it boots into Ubuntu ssh isn't installed by default and vnc isn't enabled by default so I wouldn't be able to control it.
Also I'd really like to completely wipe out Windows and use only Ubuntu.
