Ubuntu :: Finding The PostgreSQL Installed Location?

Mar 24, 2011

I'm using ubuntu 10.04 and PostgreSQL 8.4.7. I need to find out where PostgreSQL is located so I can run commands. I successfully installed PostgreSQL without changing any of the defaults. Matthew & Stones' Beginning Databases with PosgreSQL From Novice to Professional, as well as the PostgreSQL documentation, indicates the standard location is /usr/local/pgsql/bin/ but it's not there; it's somewhere else (ps -el | grep post confirms it IS running and psql is able to do du to display the list of users and l to display the list of databases).

But when I tried to create a new user by running /usr/local/pgsql/bin/createuser the command was not found. I tried to locate the installation by running pg_config --bindir but it said pg_config was not installed. I downloaded pg_config and its dependencies and tried to install them with the package installer, but it wouldn't go because something is wrong with the libkrb5-3 and libkrb5support0 packages - they won't install and the package installer just zips through without reporting missing dependencies or anything. The MD5, SHA1, and SHA256 checksums all match, but they just won't install. I then tried the libk5crypto3 package just to make sure something wasn't wrong on my end - it installed fine. So I searched the PostgreSQL FAQ and found out how to get the version without pg_config by doing a SELECT version(); query. here appears to be no corresponding SELECT bindir(); query. A plain ordinary file search for pgsql, postgresql, etc.

Programming :: Finding Location Of Duplicate Directories

Jan 8, 2011

This simple task is proving harder then imagined. I have a multi-level directory that I'm trying to clean of duplicates, but I can't get 'find' to print what I need to see. To give an illustrative example, here is a dir:

Code:
stuart@stuart:~/testdir$ ls *
dir1:
level2:
dir1

So the output of find as i'd like it to work would show the two locations of dir1, which would be ./dir1 and ./level2/dir1. But no:

Code:
stuart@stuart:~/testdir$ ls -d */ | head -1 | find . "`cat`" -type d
.
./level2
./level2/dir1
./dir1
dir1/

Fedora X86/64bit :: CMake Installed Location Changes

Aug 16, 2011

I'm trying to get Rigs of Rods working on Fedora, but I've run into problems. RoR uses wxGTK development version 2.9, but Fedora only uses the stable 2.8. When I compiled and installed wxGTK and other RoR depencies not available with yum, some installed to /usr/local/lib and not the CMake expected location /usr/lib64 (LD_DEBUG=libs /home/user/ror-trunk/bin/rorconfig) I had to add "CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS:STRING=-ldl" to CMakeCache.txt to get RoR to compile, and tried adding "CMAKE_LIBRARY_PATH:PATH=/usr/local/lib" and "wxWidgets_LIBRARIES:PATH=/usr/local/lib" to try and fix

ldd rorconfig | grep -i libwx
libwx_baseu-2.9.so.1 => not found
libwx_gtk2u_core-2.9.so.1 => not found
libwx_gtk2u_html-2.9.so.1 => not found
libwx_baseu_net-2.9.so.1 => not found
libwx_gtk2u_adv-2.9.so.1 => not found

but it didn't work. ldconfig hasn't helped either.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 LTS Finding Installed Software?

Jul 8, 2010

Why is it that some software isn't in the Ubuntu Software Center's installed software list and must be searched for. Is the presented list a comprehensive list for applications only, or does it categorize software some other way. I am a bit uncertain about this since both image magick (a command line "application) and xvfb needed to be searched for in order to appear. Is their a way to get a complete listing of different types (and if necessary all) of the software installed on your system.

Software :: Yum Not Finding - Listing Installed Rpms - Missing Dependency

May 18, 2010

I have a disk of all the rpms (just the rpms) of RH Ent. 5.1. I needed to intall some packages from it.

For that I created a local repository.

Following is what I did:

1. mounted DVD in /media
2. Issued createrepo on /media (Now the packages are in /media/mycdrom/RHE5Rpms and the repodata is in /media)
3. I added the following in the /etc/yum.conf

Now when I try to install, for example, qt4-devel, it can resolve the dependencies for one level. For example, it resolves libpng-devel (which is needed by qt4-devel), but it fails to resolve libpng (which is needed by libpng-devel). But libpng package is both available in the DVD and is already installed on the machine.

Following is the tail of error messages I get after issuing the command 'yum install qt4-devel'

All the above packages are available through the DVD and already installed on the machine.

Ubuntu Servers :: Just Installed Ubuntu 9.10 - But Port 80 Blocked - Can Not Find Server/location

Apr 12, 2010

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 and tomcat 6 java servlet container. I am trying to run the tomcat server on port 80, so I edited tomcat's configuration file (server.xml) and changed the default port from "8080" to "80". I launched tomcat server, went to my browser and entered:[url], but it says can not find server/location. Then I edit the server.xml and revert back to port "8080" and then enter: [url] and everything works fine. So my guess is some other service is taking up port 80, but I would think not, since I just installed Ubuntu and made sure apache isn't installed or running.

So I went to "System" --> "Administration", then choose "Network Tools". I then executed Netstat and did not see anything taking up port 80, but I do see port 8080 taken (assuming it is the tomcat server). Then I also did a Port Scan and entered my IP number. Again, I don't see port 80 taken, but do see 8080 being used.

I had a winxp laptop computer behind home wireless and was running tomcat 6 server fine with it, but it over-heated and died recently. So I got a used laptop and just installed Ubuntu 9.10. I have not changed my wireless router settings. It is the same as before. So I have ruled out my home's hardware/network equipment.

So here now I sit, wondering what is up?

For security reasons, is port 80 initially blocked by Ubuntu for some reason? Is there something I have to do beforehand to free up port 80?

Ubuntu :: OpenMotif : Create Network Location Link As Local Filesystem Location?

Apr 26, 2011

I'm working with a program that uses Open Motif to create all of the widgets, including the Open File dialog box (obviously). However, Open Motif being kinda old-timey, 80's vintage, and for the most part now an abandoned project, it is quite clunky. So, actually what I need to do is to open some files located on my work server. I have already successfully connected to the relevant server directories with Samba, and with programs built with GTK+ (such as GIMP) I can open files across the network because I have created a bookmark in Nautilus, and those bookmarks appear in the Open File dialog box created by GTK+. Now, Open Motif is different: it doesn't see network locations, orNautilus shortcuts. When I type "smb://serveripyadayada" in the search folder, it really doesn't like it and complains. So, what do I do? Can I get somehow Open Motif to open a network location? Or can I do a run-around and place a shortcut in the file system that points to the network location?

Ubuntu :: Get Reports Regarding PostgreSQL 8.4.7 Installation?

Mar 24, 2011

I'm trying to install pg_config so I can get some simple reports regarding my PostgreSQL 8.4.7 installation.

I downloaded pg_config and its dependencies and tried to install them with the package installer, but it wouldn't go because it seems like something may be wrong with the libkrb5-3 and libkrb5support0 packages - they won't install and the package installer just zips through without reporting missing dependencies or anything. The MD5, SHA1, and SHA256 checksums all match, but they just won't install.

I downloaded all the packages from the ubuntu [security] repository.

Because my Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) machine is not connected to the internet, I download packages to my Windows 7 machine, transfer them across my network to a shared folder on my Ubuntu machine and double-click the package to install.

I've successfully installed postgresql-8.4, apache-2.2.14, php-5.3.2, drupal-6.16, and several other packages and all their dependencies this way without any problems before.

To make sure I wasn't having some new problem, I then tried installing libk5crypto3 - it installed fine.

I sent an email to frank@lichtenheld.de , the repository maintainer, but haven't heard back from him yet.
