Randomizing 16777215 hosts for scanning...

Mar 4, 2010I have been playing with Ettercap on my home network, learning about packet forwarding and all such things. Recently, after doing some certificate stuff, Ettercap is performing the SSL attack where it sucks out the password of a user after it issues a fake certificate. How do I turn off the SSL attack in ettercap when I'm not interested in SSL information?

May 8, 2010I have recently purchased an HP F4480 all-in-one printer.The printer part works, and so does copies (I think all copiers work without needed to be plugged into the PC).It however won't scan. I'm assuming I am missing some driver for it, but I can't seem to find it. I have even tried contacting HP support but no luck.I'm a tad surprised, I heard HP was great with Linux.Anyway, I tried to find the scanner manually, in the Control Center, tried sane, xsane, kooka. Nothing is detecting this printer.If it matters, I am using Mandriva 2009.1 Powerpack edition.

Nov 2, 2009Recently my home PC crashed and I had to re-installed it. I put a "clean" install of Fedora11, then copied my /home directory and some other stuff over from the old installation.I have a couple of PHP scripts I wrote, and one of them stopped working. It uses cURL, and when I enable error tracking I get:cURL error number:6cURL errorouldn't resolve host 'www.host.com'I started digging around and I found out Apache doesn't resolve anything at all, so it's not only a cURL problem. For example,
$ip = gethostbyname('host.com');
echo $ip; die();
returns "host.com" and not an IP address.My best guess so far is that Apache has no access to the DNS service (from command line and in browsers everything resolves). had a suspicion it's a SElinux issue and disabled it, but that didn't change anything.I found some old forum posts mentioning problems with chroot-ed Apache, but I haven't done anything to mine and in any case couldn't figure out what the problem was, or the solution, so I'm stuck.

Aug 17, 2011Well, as many proxy applications, GNOME Network Proxy Preferences only allow to ignore hosts. What I want to do is exactly the opposite. I only want to use the proxy for few sites. Is it possible to define only the allowed hosts in any way?
PS: I know FoxyProxy add-on for Firefox does this, but 1)I don't use Firefox and 2)I want the proxy settings system wide not only for browser.

May 2, 2011I'm trying to use ssh-keyscan to get some known_host file population going on, but I have a ton of hosts I want to scan, all with multiple aliases in /etc/hosts. Is there a way to use my current /etc/hosts file to do an ssh-keyscan instead of making a special list of hosts that (from what I've read) ssh-keyscan needs?

Jan 9, 2011I installed squeeze on my eeepc 1015ped and downloaded the correct firmware-brcm80211 drivers but every time I scan for my network using iwconfig wlan0 scan or wicd, my computer completely freezes. I previously had a solid install running xmonad, and wicd was working like a charm (using the same broadcom driver) but i tinkered too much with it and decided to do a fresh install. I haven't quite run into a problem like this before.

Jan 26, 2011Probably an easy (which means stoopid) question...I am trying to reroute a website using my hosts file so that it matches my servers certificate file for testing without effect dns and the live site.When I went to edit my /etc/hosts file it is non-existent. I have, I am assuming in it's place, hosts.allow and hosts.deny. Can anyone explain why I do not have a hosts file?

Aug 6, 2011I goggled a lot on how to get ettercap working on ubuntu, but unfortunately wasn't able to find anything good.
So, i decided to make a new post about it.
1. The GUI mode crashes after scanning for hosts.[ Fixed by downloading the version by timothy]
2. After Scanning, When you start Sniffing, and run the chk_poison plugin it says no poisoning at all . Why, i am not able to poison it at all?
3. Running the original ettercap in text mode(-T), also gives the error , if you uncomment the two lines required for SSL sniffing, then you are met with error saying that you don't have enough permission to and suggest that i should either upgrade iptables or my kernel[I am sudo]. O.o?

Aug 17, 2010I used to have ettercap on backtrack 4 and everything was ok...But on ubuntu 10.04 I'm having this issue; it is not showing passwords (if i log in for example in a forum with a http link )and not sending false certificate (if i try to log in in https links, after uncommenting the redir ip tables in etter.conf).Other features seems to work alright (such as dns spoofing) and the arp poisonning is succesful. Besides, Wireshark gets the passwords.

Jan 27, 2011I am using unbuntu as root. I've made all the edits to my etter.conf file as follows:

I also turn on ipTables. I then start my attack as follows:

I proceed to select my interface and scan for all hosts, then ettercap crashes, exits and outputs the infamous message:

Segmentation Fault...
recompile in debug mode, reproduce the bug and send a bugreport I took a look at line 70 in my etter.conf file and it looks like this:

I've searched online and it seems like others have this issue as well, but I can't seem to resolve it.
Ubuntu :: Memory Scan On CD?
Oct 22, 2010One of the things I found really handy about the Live Ubuntu CDs is they had the option to run a memory scan on the computer. As the head of an IT department of one person in charge of maintaining 60 computers, that capability has helped me more than twice.
I think the options when running off CD/USB were Install Ubuntu, Test Ubuntu, run a memory scan, or boot off the harddrive. However, starting with Lucid and continuing with Maverick, the only options on the Live CD/USB seem to be install or try (although the memory scan is available on my Grub menu after Ubuntu is installed, unfortunately, most of the computers I am responsible for at work are Windows only).
Is there a way to start the memory scan when running a Live Lucid or Maverick CD/USB?

I know there is a backdoor somewhere, and comodo isnt picking it up so i am refusing to boot from my windows 7 right now. Jun 4, 2011I have just installed 11.04 (64-bit) and I cannot scan as a user. Scanning as root works fine. My device is a Brother MFC-7420. I've installed the brscan2-0.2.5-1.amd64.deb package from the brother page. After installing this, I can run xsane as root and scan perfectly.
I could not find any instructions for enabling this as a user on 11.04, so I followed the instructions for 10.04 at [URL]...n1c.html#u9.10 and added the following between libsane_usb_rules_begin and libsane_usb_rules_end
