View 4 RepliesI'm currently upgrading from ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (I installed my ubuntu using the windows ubuntu installer, wubi, a few months ago). I started the update manager to upgrade, and everything was going fine until it started installing the upgrades, more specifically when it got to "Preparing memtest86+", when it started continuously saying in the terminal "Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-22-generic". It's been stuck at "About 43 minutes remaining" for about half an hour. I've included a screenshot of my computer in the state it is in as I type this message.

I first ran the release upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04, which ran really smoothely without errors and at the end prompted a reboot. I have rebooted and decided to upgrade further - 9.04 to 9.10. And here is the result. I saw this long into the upgrade process, somewhere 1.5 hours into the upgrade: [URL]

Could someone look this over and give me the details on how i remove the package or program that did not recomplie correctly and doesnt behave right. Its called Novacom i was using it when testing some tethering with my palm pre, but as you can see in the terminal output below everytime i install a new package i get the same error about trying to recompile novacom. Yeah...that's what I get every time I try to upgrade to lucid lynx.
NOTE: I haven't updated for quite some time. I may have gotten one or two updates for karmic but that was it. Just thought it might be important....
NOTE: Also not sure if this is important, but karmic installed and did some funny stuff to itself. My desktop no longer exists. It just isn't there. Also, when I try to turn of my computer it gets all kinds of errors and eventually I have to just pull the plug....something about a dev loop0 right after is says its deactivating swap...
During upgrading from 8.04 to 10.04, I was asked several times what I wanted to do with menu.lst. I gave the same reply each time: "keep the local version currently installed". I wanted it the way I had when using 8.04; that is, not having the un-customizable grub menu I've experienced before with 10.04.
When I was done installing 10.04 and was going to reboot, the GRUB menu appears as it has before, and the Ubuntu entry says "Ubuntu 8.04", even though it's now 10.04. But when I choose "Ubuntu 8.04", the following error message occurs:
Code:

I upgraded Ubuntu from version 10.04 to 10.10. When the upgrade completed I was asked to reboot. After reboot I simply got the message "error: file not found" on the screen. After a few seconds the machine rebooted.
I guess it is the boot loader that was not found. Is there some hope of fixing this problem?
I was upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10 but my laptop battery went down so the installation did not ended up correctly.
When trying to reboot now, the system is not able to start correctly. No desktop, no icons... nothing.
Starting in recovery mode is impossible too.
Now I am running with live cd.
I recently upgraded from Maverick to Natty. The upgrade process went fine and I am able to log in to Natty and use my computer fine.
However, during the installation there was an error upgrading likewise-open from 5.0.xx to 6.0.xx. I thought perhaps removing likewise-open 5.0.xx and installing 6.0.xx (instead of upgrading) may fix the problem.
This what I get:

I want to upgrade my 32bit Fedora from 11 to 13 version. I tried both options: via preupgrade tool and via installation media (DVD). Both options failed with following Anaconda error at the beginning of installation process:
RpmUtilsError: RPM Error opening Package
In my case, the problem was in package:
/mnt/sysimage/var/cache/yum/anaconda-InstallationRepo-xxx.i386/packages/fontpackages-filesystem-1.44-1.fc13.noarch.rpm.
I switched to terminal, and discovered that size of this file is 0.
I downloaded installation DVD from official torrent, so checksum was autmatically checked. Verification test at the beginnig of installation was also successfully passed. So media is OK. Moreover, I also tried to upgrade via preupgrade tool with the same results.
I found similar bug with unclear status in Fedora Bug Tracking system for Anaconda in F12: [URL]

I installed Oracle Database on this server few months ago. I see in /etc/yum.repos.d directory a public-yum-el5.repo file with entries pointing to Oracle which must have come from that installation. Now how do I proceed from here?
I'm currently running VB 3.0.10 on Fedora 12 64 bit.
When I attempt to upgrade my current install to 3.1 I get the following:
I am somewhat puzzled as this is a upgrade from a stable installed version. I have confirmed I have libcrypto.so.8 . . . from what I can tell its part of the openssl package but I've got the most current so I don't know how to obtain the libcrypto.so.10 file to correct this issue.
When upgrading from fedora 10 to fedora 12 (after reboot and during installation) I get the error message as - Error running transaction - you need more space on the following file systems : 23 M on /mnt/sysimage/boot

I checked /mnt , there is no folder as sysimage . Please suggest how to proceed further ?
After preupgrading without problems, I did not reboot the computer inmediatly. I was surprised that, although preupgrade had finished, the terminal window was yet active and I closed it. On reboot, in the Grub window, one of the options is "Actualizar a (upgrade to) Fedora 14". If I select it I get: "Booting 'Actualizar a Fedora 14 (Laughlin)'
kernel /upgrade/vmlinuz preupgrade repo=hd::/var/cache/yum/preupgrade ks=hd:UUID=02f7302b-aa56-4c33-b533- fa1549aa0860:/upgrade/ks.cfg stage2=hd:UUID=02f7302b-aa56-4c33-b533-fa1549aa0860:/upgrade/install.img initrd /upgrade/initrd.img
Error 15: File not found
Press any key to continue....."
and pressing a key it returns to the Grub window. The /upgrade directory doesn't exist, but it does the /boot/upgrade where the vmlinuz is. uninstall and reinstall the preupgrade, rebooting inmediatly, but I don't know how to uninstall and if this is the solution. How can I uninstall the preupgrade?
I upgraded my openSUSE 11.2 to openSUSE 11.4 . Unfortunately after the upgrade the OS does not recognize many characters at many places . For eg :- In YaST , everything is square boxes as if the character set weren't present . Moreover , every theme has same font at every place i.e. Sans Serif . After the upgrade, the graphics have become worse . I'm using KDE environment . Hardware is : Core i5/4GB .

I have just tried to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.10 from 10.04 using the update manager
It asks me for me password and then a window opens saying "Upgrading Ubuntu to version 10.10"
It gets to "setting new software channels" then a message pops up saying "third party sources disabled" next a little error icon appears in the Notification Area then another message saying: Could not calculate the upgrade

I have been windows using for over years and now after seeing Linux in couple of colleagues desk, I liked and have installed Linux in my home desktop (Fedora 14). After installing Fedora 14, I tried upgrading my browser Firefox from 3.6.17 (which came by default) to Firefox 4.0. I googled and got the procedure for upgrading tirefox. from this link [URL]. I followed the exact steps and while I tried to install I get the following error. I tried enough to get rid of this problem but all attempts in vain.
