Ubuntu :: Emerald Themes Don't Stay After Terminal Is Closed?
Jun 10, 2010
I have instaled compiz fusion and emerald. I understand through research that there is a bug in Emerald that requires the use of terminal to activate a new theme specifically typing the following text at the command line: emerald --replace.
When I do this the theme changes. However when I close the terminal it reverts back to the gnome default theme. What do I need to do to keep the Emerald theme changes. Previously I added the following to the start preferences: fusion-icon --no-start

I want to theme my Ubuntu. I have heard that Emerald is good for this, but I just don't understand how to use it.
There is a theme there already called "Beryl Red" (I assume it's a default), but there is no button to install or use it.

Ok yesterday I had a problem where I tried to install some Emerald themes on Xubuntu 11.04. It did not work and in the process, all of my Windows Decoration was gone, the Maximize and Minimize buttons at the top of each windows were gone, as shown in the picture attached. I am done with emerald, I uninstalled, I just want my top windows bars back. I found a command for the terminal that fixed it, but when I turned my PC on this morning, the bars were gone again, and I had to reenter that command again. The command it 'xfwm4 --display=:0.0 --replace' that brings them back. Is there a way for my computer to automatically do that command or is there another permanent solution?

I am trying to create a script that takes a network resource off the network, and opens it in nautilus to recover files. Everything is working fine, except for the nautilus part. Nautilus opens just fine, but the script opens it and does not go on, even when nautilus is closed. when running another terminal instance with nautilus in it, when nautilus is closed, the extra terminal just sits there.

My plan is to slowly switch over to this Distro rather than use Gnome 3 or Unity, but I'm not as familiar with Debian. I've gotten everything working (including Compiz) except that I can't find Emerald anywhere? Is it possible to install Emerald in Debian Squeeze? If so, is there a PPA or repository?

I finally have my conky source file just the way I want it, at least for now. When I want to display conky, I open terminal and simply type in conky. Then I can see the actual conky display. But when I close terminal, conky disappears. How can I make it remain visible?

On some themes (like dust sand) the terminal goes transparent. I checked the profile, and it has a solid color settings, so this must have been changed from somewhere else and I can't get rid of the stupid transparency.

I would like to install a new icon theme without effecting my currently selected panel theme, as i think the Ambience panel theme looks really nice and unified but im not too keen on the Ubuntu-Mono icons. Is this easily possible, without going into my icon folders and replacing all the instances of one style for another? Are there any applications for gnome icon theming like OS X's Candybar?Im sure others must desire to change only the icons and perhaps it is really easy and this is why i couldnt dig anythin up on google, that or im a useless googler.

Since of late "Appearance preference" behaves awkwardly . Normaly It is supposed to show themes in /usr/share/themes right? but now it shows themes only in ~/.themes folder. I don't know what affected the change. how do I configure it as to show themes in /usr/share/themes/,?
Also whatever theme I use , Controls would stay same(Classic controls). They wouldn't be update to those of the Theme used.

I did a bunch of stuff I read about here: [URL]
Okay, I don't think any of that would have hurt anything. Well then I was messing around and I created a shutdown launcher using the command
Code:
sudo shutdown -h now
I engaged the launcher to see what it would do and it caused a rather violent shutdown. When I turned my computer back on my emerald theme was gone and I can't seem to get it going again.

I just did a clean install with Lucid and I can not seem to get Emerald to keep the theme when booting up. I have to keep pressing Alt-F2 then type...
Code:
emerald --replace
I had changed the settings last time and when I booted up, emerald stayed the same. I'm not sure how I changed them, I forgot. I know I did something with...
Code:
gconf-editor /apps/metacity
...but I don't remember what I did and I can't seem to find the web site that showed me how. How can I keep the themes when booting up and not have to manually do it everytime I boot up?

trying a different title... If I can't get satisfaction, then I'll give it a rest.1.) Installed Xubuntu 11.042.) Installed Compiz, Fusion, CCSM, & Emerald.3.) Compiz works.4.) Emerald doesn't.5.) Using Fusion to set the WM or typing [emerald --replace] (in CCSM) doesn't work. Xubuntu seems unwilling to cooperate with any WM if it's not XFWM.Has anyone here gotten Emerald to work in Xubuntu 11.04?
