How can I fix this?
I have emerald on Ubuntu 9.10 64bit, and I wish to use emerald to decorate windows. When I run
Code:
emerald --replace
, the windows are decorated, but the command does not return. That is to say, I need to press
[code]....
I'm not sure about anybody else, but I have spent many hours today trying to figure out how to get Compiz as a window manager. Alas, I have tasted success. Once compiz and Emerald are both installed, simply go to Code:Configure Desktop > Default Applications > Window Management and then select from the drop down menu. Now those beautiful emerald themes will work. I have seen many other 'solutions' for KDE4 and they may have worked for some, but not for me. I hope this will help somebody who may be as frustrated as I was.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had installed compiz and emerald when I was using Fedora 9, upgraded to 10 (compiz and emerald still working at this stage) tho when I upgraded to 11 compiz and emerald seem to have crashed (i upgraded using preupgrade both times, maybe this might be a bit of a problem...) Since upgrading to 11, neither compiz or emerald would work. Ive tried reinstalling both compiz and emerald, and even erasing them both, restarting and then installing (both times thru yum).
This has brought back compiz and the effects (I can use AWN, desktops on a cube etc) but there is no window borders (cant move, resize etc). Ive tried different window managers (emerald, gtk and even kde4 has been installed..) and tried reloading the window mangers thru the fusion icon. Nothing seems to work, unless I stop compiz from running at startup (but then I lose all the desktop 'candy'). Searching the net has brought up a couple of options (Under CCSM):
- Check the box "Windows Decorations" and under its properties write emerald --replace (or whatever WM)
- Check the box "Place windows"
but none of these seem to work either.
I have problem for emerald and compiz in KDE fedora 11. The problems are:
1. Emerald is not running at startup so I have to type emerald --replace every time I login otherwise I get no windows border.
2. The static application switcher in compiz is not running at startup so I have to go to ccsm and disable then reenable it again otherwise when I point my mouse to the edges of my screen it wont do anything.
I have a rather odd problem. Ubuntu 11.04 came installed with the nvidia 173 drivers, which I replaced with the current ones. Neither loaded Unity, so I downloaded Nvidia's 270.41.06 drivers from their website. Still no unity.
If I run compiz --replace, however, compiz works fine, and Unity loads, albeit extremely buggy, most likely because all of the gnome components are still running (e.g., if I click anywhere on the top panel, it goes away).
My plan is to slowly switch over to this Distro rather than use Gnome 3 or Unity, but I'm not as familiar with Debian. I've gotten everything working (including Compiz) except that I can't find Emerald anywhere? Is it possible to install Emerald in Debian Squeeze? If so, is there a PPA or repository?

but now it became a problem: i've tried reinstalling nvidia's drivers and compiz itself. no effect. also, i can't catch any errors in logs.
I typed the metacity --replace command in Maverick to turn off compiz so I could change compiz files for the "mac minimize" effect. The default Ubuntu installation had compiz working but now it won't work at all. I tried downloading the proprietary driver from "system --> additional drivers" as well, but it said it failed to install.
I have an ATI radeon 3200 HD card. What can I do?
Can the Replace function replace more than one word with the same character(s)?
Also, do you know how to access the plugins provided by the gedit-plugins package?
I use Ubuntu 10.04 and I have compiz installed and also emerad. Currently I have the theme Ambiance and I want to change it to another theme that use emralld, but the problem is nothing change.

There must be a script I need to edit somewhere...
This is the BETA version of the latest Xubuntu, by the way...
I just upgraded my Ubuntu from 10.10 to 11.04 and can't use it normally after getting in desktop, not after a struggle to switch to switch the desktop to gnome. Plus, even in gnome, the emerald can't start as well, it says "stack error" when I run "sudo emerald --replace".
View 1 Replies View Relatedi just installed ubuntu 11.04. now i want install emerald in my comp but as it is a dead project its not competible but i found a guide on google. to compile the emerlad.
Code:
sudo apt-get install build-essential libgtk2.0-dev libwnck-dev libxrender-dev libpango1.0-dev libcairo2-dev compiz-dev libdecoration0-dev libtool intltool git
cd ~
[code]....
so i did that and also installed CompizCOnfig SEtting Manager. i enabled the the window decoration, and in command i wrote
Code:
emerald --replace
but its not changing, even when i select a theme from the emerald theme manager.
I did a bunch of stuff I read about here: [URL]
Okay, I don't think any of that would have hurt anything. Well then I was messing around and I created a shutdown launcher using the command
Code:
sudo shutdown -h now
I engaged the launcher to see what it would do and it caused a rather violent shutdown. When I turned my computer back on my emerald theme was gone and I can't seem to get it going again.
[URL]I had this emerald theme not two days ago, and now I cant find it again for the life of me, I am 99% sure I got it on gnome-look but i've been searching for quite a while and just cant find it again anywhere.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOk yesterday I had a problem where I tried to install some Emerald themes on Xubuntu 11.04. It did not work and in the process, all of my Windows Decoration was gone, the Maximize and Minimize buttons at the top of each windows were gone, as shown in the picture attached. I am done with emerald, I uninstalled, I just want my top windows bars back. I found a command for the terminal that fixed it, but when I turned my PC on this morning, the bars were gone again, and I had to reenter that command again. The command it 'xfwm4 --display=:0.0 --replace' that brings them back. Is there a way for my computer to automatically do that command or is there another permanent solution?

I just upgraded to 10.04 (actually had to dl 10.04 iso and do full install, upgrading from 9.10 crashed). I am trying to use "Emerald Theme Manager" (which is a pain aside from the problem I am having) When I click on a theme I dl'd and installed, E.T.M. just vanishes, the theme does not switch and I am done. It takes about 1 second after clicking the theme and then gone, no error message or error reporting message
