May 3, 2010I can't manage to install Packet Tracer 5 on Lucid 10.04 amd64. I've tried both the binary and the tar.gz with the help provided on the old amd64 forum but it's still tell me that the the package architecture (i386) does not match the system (amd64). Do someone have any idea other than switching to the 32-bits version?

I installed KDE Fedora today and managed to get Firefox and Flash installed without much trouble. However, I'm trying to download the newest version of Thunderbird but after a lot of looking, how to do it.

Ubuntu :: Grub 2 Not Loading Newest Kernel
Mar 20, 2010I have been running Ubuntu 9.10 ever since it was released, on my HTPC. However, for some reason when a new kernel comes out and I upgrade to it GRUB 2 doesn't load the newest kernel but just loads the old original kernel that came with it when I originally installed 9.10. I have confirmed that the newer kernels are installed by editing the GRUB 2 command line at startup (just a temporary fix) and all worked well with the newer kernels. How can I make GRUB 2 load the newest kernel by default. On my laptop running 9.10 it has loaded the newest kernel by default ever since I installed it but my HTPC just won't cooperate.

Nov 18, 2010I had done the upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 online and couldn't boot to newest kernel and had to select the previous one in GRUB. From what I have read it may be because of NVIDIA drivers or some conflict. Anyways,I did a fresh install of 10.10 from the Live CD overriding my 10.04-to-10.10-online-updated partition so I do not have an option to boot older Linux kernels now. I was wondering if the Live CD could be used to install any previous linux kernels for the new installed Ubuntu 10.10 system.

Aug 8, 2010I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, and the latest kernel upgrade (xxxx.22) won't start the system because it can't find the hard disks. It ends up with a prompt from (initramfs).The computer has an MSI board with Intel P4 Dual CPU, and a Phoenix Award BIOS marked W7037 IMS V1.2, dated 091604 (Sep16/04). I doubt that a newer BIOS that will fix the problem, but if anyone knows I could try to find a floppy drive and a diskette, because they require that to install the newer BIOS (ver 1.3). Does any one have a better method? Is it still possible to get the previous kernel version until they fix this bug (if they ever will)?
Is there a way to change the boot sequence in GRUB2 so the original kernel would be the default even if the rest of the software has been updated? Since 10.04 has several bugs and annoyances, may be it's time to change to another distribution (I've tried Mint 9, but it has much of the same, like having to enter the password if I take a short break from the computer). Many questions at once, but less and less things are functioning with each new revision. For instance to use the scanner I must go back to 8.04, or use WINDOWS! (The scanner is the only reason why I have Windows on the computer).

May 14, 2011this is a new problem with issues that started when I upgraded to 10.10. Originally, GRUB wouldn't load after that upgrade, but that was fixed here. Once GRUB was working properly, there was a problem with the 2.6.35-28 generic kernel. When I tried to boot through it, I would only get an ubuntu command line.
Luckily the older 2.6.32-22 generic kernel worked just fine and I could log in and load my ubuntu desktop with no issues. I decided to upgrade to 11.04 to see if that would correct whatever was going on. The installation was completed without any apparent issues, GRUB works, XP Pro works, and the older 2.6.32-22 generic kernel allows me to boot into 11.04.
Unfortunately, another new kernel, 2.6.38-8 generic, is not working properly. I snaped some pictures of what happens when I try to use this kernel:

The first is GRUB/ The selection The second is the loading graphic The third is a command line where it freezes (note: this is not the same command line screen/environment that I was referring to with the 10.10 new kernel)

I tried to install it with apt-get but it just says that it could not find java. I found a packet at Linux & ebian wiki, but i dont know how to extract it into the root Filesystem /. Mar 30, 2010Since about half a year ago I downloaded the 11th version of Fedora from the official web page but when trying to install it (I tried booting from cd) it loads everything all right, I get the fedora loading screen, but when it finishes the loading remains so, I doesnt mark errors or anything, I get the cursor on the black screen, the HDD LED turns off and then it remains just like that, I left it up to 1 full hour and from there nothing happens, also tried the ubuntu 9.04 and it is exactly the same, after loadint everything ok, it reaches a point where the screen goes black with a cursor and the HDD LED goes out , the cursor keeps going and it gets stuck.i readed a few time ago that this happens because my video card (which was integrated in the mb) did not support these versions of linux, then i bought an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200LE 128mb card and same thing happened, a couple of months ago i was using a P4GEMX ASUS motherboard with 760 RAM and HDD 160 gb IDE drive. I gave up and leave it for peace.
Today I use an D865GBF Intel motherboard with 1GB of RAM, same video card Nvidia Geforce FX 5200LE and passes the same thing, also tried to install Windows 7 and reaches the point where it shows the wallpaper just before the installation options but nothing happens and it stays right there .. the pointer disappears, I gets stuck in the wallpaper and yet again...the HDD LED goes out, I am very confused, I changed every piece of the pc, new motherboard, new rams and nothing, the only thing that I am still using of the old pc is the hard drive, also tried another HDD, one of 60gb GHola que tal, very good afternoon to all, is the first time I write in the forum and my problem is this:
