View 2 RepliesSince about half a year ago I downloaded the 11th version of Fedora from the official web page but when trying to install it (I tried booting from cd) it loads everything all right, I get the fedora loading screen, but when it finishes the loading remains so, I doesnt mark errors or anything, I get the cursor on the black screen, the HDD LED turns off and then it remains just like that, I left it up to 1 full hour and from there nothing happens, also tried the ubuntu 9.04 and it is exactly the same, after loadint everything ok, it reaches a point where the screen goes black with a cursor and the HDD LED goes out , the cursor keeps going and it gets stuck.i readed a few time ago that this happens because my video card (which was integrated in the mb) did not support these versions of linux, then i bought an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200LE 128mb card and same thing happened, a couple of months ago i was using a P4GEMX ASUS motherboard with 760 RAM and HDD 160 gb IDE drive. I gave up and leave it for peace.
Today I use an D865GBF Intel motherboard with 1GB of RAM, same video card Nvidia Geforce FX 5200LE and passes the same thing, also tried to install Windows 7 and reaches the point where it shows the wallpaper just before the installation options but nothing happens and it stays right there .. the pointer disappears, I gets stuck in the wallpaper and yet again...the HDD LED goes out, I am very confused, I changed every piece of the pc, new motherboard, new rams and nothing, the only thing that I am still using of the old pc is the hard drive, also tried another HDD, one of 60gb GHola que tal, very good afternoon to all, is the first time I write in the forum and my problem is this:

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy procedure for updating the installed packages was, to klick on the list of packages that are installed in the installation source @ system in YAST and choose "Update if newer version is available". Up to Suse 11.3 Yast automatically chooses the latest version from each available repository that is installed (eg, Packman or Mozilla Build Service). With 11.4 however, I noticed that it only updates a package, if a newer version is avalible in the repository from which the package originally origines. Since I don't want to look through 4 GB of packages manually, whether there are newer versions in another repository available, I ask you if I there is a posibility to get the old behavior of YAST back.

View 1 Replies View Relatedbut anyway I have a lot of stuff on my Laptop (I am currently using) and I am using Windows Vista, but I want to, I think it's called dual boot, where I can use both Linux and Windows. The only thing is, I am not entirely sure how to do this, I used to have it done on one of my other Computers, but I forgot how I did it, I am currently downloading the newest version of Ubuntu and I want to be able to run both.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically, I am trying to locate and copy the newest .json bookmark backup in my .mozilla/firefox/w987sdg9.default/bookmarkbackups directory.
I tried this
Code:
ls -t ~/.mozilla/firefox/b1ahb1ah.default/bookmarkbackups/ | head -1
which does return the newest file, but only the filename itself. I found readlink, but I haven't gotten that to output a full path which I can then feed to copy. So, it seems to me that find might work well here, and I know how to find based on absolute dates, but not relative.
I'm looking for a Bash script that will go into a list of directories and delete all but the four most recently created files.
How can I do this?
I'm relatively experienced with UNIX and Linux, but this has me thrown for quite a loop, and it seemed like such a simple question. How would I go about finding the newest file in a file system? I thought something like:
Code:
ls -ltr `find /usr -type f`
would work, but I seem to be exceeding the argument maximum for ls:
ksh: 0403-029 There is not enough memory available now
I thought something involving xargs might work, but I really suck with that command.
Which LXDE version of Linux has the newest version of Firefox and Open Office included?
I am looking for an iso file, and I am trying to run this off of a live CD for now. So I want a light version of Linux, probably LXDE, or if not, then probably XFCE. But I need a new version of Firefox and OpenOffice included.
Because, I tried burning the customizable NimbleX @ custom.nimblex.net . Pretty good, except it uses Firefox 2, and Open Office 2.3, which are outdated.
And I tried Mint XFCE, which might have been pretty good too, but it had some issue of blanking and requiring relogin after I opened hotmail frequently (user id: mint, password: blank).
The web browser and the word processing program are the most important and essential applications to me.
So are there any Linux versions in LXDE on LiveCD that include newer versions of Firefox (or at least another good browser) and Open Office (oo seems better than abi)? (Again, if no LXDE, perhaps XFCE?)
I just want to download a good version in an iso file, and burn it to a CD and get to work. Like I said the web browser and the word processing program are all important.
So really, what iso/LiveCD versions are the fastest for running on an older system, and yet have the newest browser and word processor included?

I would like to upgrade to the newest firefox. It is 3.6.somewhat. My official Slackware (12.2 - 2.6.27.7-smp) upgrade supported the latest version , which was 3.0.19. Via GUI i could update this, and i did it.
So, now , I installed a new kernel (2.6.35-stable, and modules ). I saw, that I can download the firefox paket from their page, and I did this already some months ago, whith the experience, that this package is some kind of portable executable, means, just unpack it, and run it. It seems, as i do not need to install it ( what interferes in some kind with plugin directories , flashplayer for example. )
But, I would like to build it again, using their old config as mine ( via make oldconfig) and then converting it all to an tgz. My question now is : will this work ? because, I updated my kernel, and went to 2.6.35 but not my glibc, my kernelheaders nor my gcc. Will I still be able to compile this new ff from source and .tgz it ?
Is there a way to get the newest version of firefox on debian stable? Also I downloaded google chrome and installed it but it won't show up in my menu or under installed programs in the software center.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been running Ubuntu 9.10 ever since it was released, on my HTPC. However, for some reason when a new kernel comes out and I upgrade to it GRUB 2 doesn't load the newest kernel but just loads the old original kernel that came with it when I originally installed 9.10. I have confirmed that the newer kernels are installed by editing the GRUB 2 command line at startup (just a temporary fix) and all worked well with the newer kernels. How can I make GRUB 2 load the newest kernel by default. On my laptop running 9.10 it has loaded the newest kernel by default ever since I installed it but my HTPC just won't cooperate.
