Ubuntu :: Way To Save Specific Cookies While Deleting Others With Ff "Clear Recent History"
Dec 15, 2010
I used to use CCleaner so I could keep specific cookies from being deleted while I deleted all others. Is there any way I can do this with Ubuntu? Firefox doesn't seem to allow it other than manual deletion which is not as fast an automated as CCleaner made the task.

IMDB gives me a "recently viewed" list of pages I viewed recently (and a few of them were months ago, since I don't go there too often) at the bottom of every page I view. My cookies are enabled for session-only, have adblock plus, my ip changes every day, how are they doing that? How can I prevent it? What other websites are using the same trick? At this page [URL] there's a link there that says "Clear entire history", but I want to disable them from being able to track me like that, if they can track me, so can others.

How would I clear my commandline history at logon/logoff/startup time? I tried this : editing my /etc/rc.d/rc.local file like this I know this is for system startup
Code:
#!/bin/sh
# /etc/rc.d/rc.local: Local system initialization script.
# Put any local startup commands in here.
Also, if you have anything that needs to be run at shutdown time you can make an /etc/rc.d/rc.local_shutdown script and put those commands in there.
#clear user history ~/.bash_history
echo "" > ~/.bash_history
#clear root history /root/.bash_history
echo "" > /root/.bash_history
But when I reboot, the history still remains.

How do I clear the list of recent documents in Fedora 15 Gnome 3? There were a few files that I've already deleted from the system, but when I search for them, they still appear under the 'Recent Documents' list. This is proving to be a bit of a privacy nightmare.

I have installed Squeeze with the Gnome desktop and the Totem Movie Player Application. It seems to work ok but it seem there is no way to delete the history. I found one post on the subject with no reply and have read the bug reports and the problem was not mentioned. I tried to find the file containing the history without success.

How is shell history specific to each tty? I can't see anything in the history files that would indicate which tty a command was performed on, however if I restart and log in on several ttys, the command order and history is preserved on each. How is this accomplished? This goes for zsh and bash equally.Now for some zsh specific questions.I had a saved webpae, which resulted in a file called doku.php.htm, and a directory called doku.php_files - I could only get zsh to expand the directory. It didnt seem to give me the option to cycle nor did it only complete as much as it could with ambiguity, i.e. to doku.php , so what is this behaviour and where can I read about it?
Secondly I would like to know why zsh interactive shells do not expand the PS1 prompt completely. Whenever I open an xterm or such, the prompt is not the normal PS1 prompt. I read through the manuals and config files, and could see nowhere that staed a different prompt should be used depending on the shell type. Why does this happen, and how can I modify this behavior?Regarding modules, if I install the compat-wifi modules which I assume replace the existing ones, how would I uninstall them? Would I just reinstall the normal kernel modules over them?

less doesn't save command history, i.e. file .lesshst isn't created. If I create it manually, nothing writes to it too.OS AIX 5.3 I think linux users can have the same issue, hardly this issue depends on OS.

I have a file which contains milion of records. It contains 12 columns seperated by "||" (delimeter).
First two fields contain first name and last name of a person. Now my requirement is to delete all those records from this file for which:
First two fields does not contain any alphabet.
For e.g i have below mentioned records in file:
gaurav||gandhi||123||456||789
#a%bcd||123abc||89|90||91
12345||@@@||89||123||234
***||!!!!||98||76||90
Now, last two lines should be removed from this file since first two fields does not contain any alphabet for these two records.

This is a continuation of the post in [URL].... . What has happened is that I have a huge log of 600 MB + and do not know from when the data is in there.
Code: Select all┌─[shirish@debian] - [~/.config/quassel-irc.org] - [9714]
└─[$] ll -h quassel-storage.sqlite
-rw------- 1 shirish shirish 647M Jun 22 21:15 quassel-storage.sqlite
So I need to know if there is a way to get just the first five or ten entries listed as one can do using head, tail etc. I did try just using head but it was unsuccessful. The second thing would be deleting some days, weeks or months data from the existing sqlite log. I did see URL... but in my case I am deleting old entries in the sqlite log and also do not know if sqlite makes backups of the data or not ?

I've noticed its recursively in all my .html and .txt files in my website. Can I make a linux script to run that will go through all my .html and txt files recursively and delete that line from them? I don't know how it got in all of them.

Firefox "preferences" has an option which say, "keep my history for at least --- days".This does not make sense. If I enter 10 days, it will keep my history for 10 days or 1000 days. If I ener 100 days, it will keep my history for 100 days or 1000 days.ame thing!!Shouldn't it say, "keep my history for no longer than --- days"?I just set mine to 14 days and I still have a month of history.
