Ubuntu :: Desktop Zoom And Color Inversion Plugins?
Oct 29, 2010
I've installed Xubuntu 10.10 on my old PC and I'd like to get Compiz working. I have a vision problem and I've found its desktop zoom and color inversion plugins to be rather helpful.
I am using Xubuntu. My computer is a custom build PC with a 1.2GHz AMD Athlon XP, 1GB of PC2700 RAM, 8x AGP Nvidia Geforce FX 5600 card w/256MB DDR-RAM, IDE 160GB hard drive, Sound Blaster Live 5.1, and 16x DVD-RW.
Has anyone gotten Compiz to work with XFCE and how can I get this to work?
I have installed openSUSE 11.2 in my PC. To enable compiz I have download and installed (using OneClick) the nVidia driver for my nVidia GForce 8500GT video card.I need to enable the 'Enhanced Zoom' because I'm a low vision user and I need a magnifier better than Orca. The problem is that when i try to enable it (from ccsm) there isn't any zoom... I try to press META (or Super) and scroll with wheel (SUPER + Button 4) but nothing.
I have see that if I press Super+2 (increase zoom) the mouse pointer moves to a specific screen zone but the screen will not zoom.
I have the scanner HP Scanjet 2400 installed on a machine with K/Ubuntu 10.10 and I use the software Simple Scan to scan image. Problem: The image scanned by this scanner comes with a inversion of colors (what was supposed to be orange is blue ; the white sheet of paper that I've put inside it was not in the blank color when I scanned it too)... My Question: Is this a configuration problem (I did not configured this scanner at any way, so it's working by the Ubuntu drivers itself without my intervention)? Is there any way to solve it?
I am using amd64 ubuntu 10.04. My problem is that whenever I change desktop backgrounds, after about 1 - 3 mins, the background just fades into the default color you pick for your desktop.
I am running Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex dual-booting with Vista for work purposes. I have been running the two successfully for quite a few months now and am just getting to grips with it. I have lost my desktop at start-up. I get all the way past the Login to a blank desktop background (just colour - no image) and the only thing visible is a Terminal window. As I am not familiar with Linux command lines I can't do very much. I have even tried reinstalling Ubuntu which showed no error messages that I noticed but, I have the same result. At the moment I have used Supergrub to allow me to boot straight to Vista till I get things sorted out.

so I found this applescript somewhere, and not knowing applescript I was wondering if someone could tell me what the edits I need to make to duplicate the functionality found in the perl script which follows the applescript. (ie. I want to cycle through the colors in the same sequence)
Applescript (written by someone else for OS X)
Code: tell application "System Events" set theDesktopPlist to property list file "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist" set theGivenDesktop to property list item "desktopCode" of property list item "Background" of theDesktopPlist try set theColorArray to property list item "BackgroundColor" of theGivenDesktop on error
I installed Ubuntu Ultimate, everything is fine but the desktop color is ugly, I changed theme but some background is still ugly, its default colors are all dark blue.
poking around in the system settings nor Google are cooperating, so: How do I change the colour of the font on my desktop? I'm running Cinnamon (on Sid) and I've got a background with a lot of black in it, which makes the names of icons impossible to read. I know what everything is, of course, but I'd still like to be able to see what it is.
Windows 2008 R2 running on VMWARE, workstation 7.0, host machine is Ubuntu 64bit, latest release. Have clients connecting via LTSP using Remnote Desktop Connection. I tried several options for RDC like -a 16 for 16 bit graphics, but to no avail. What can I do, to have a better Remote Desktop environment? One thing I have not done, is install the Xserver Via Chrome Custom X server on the LTSP server?
I'm using Robolinux Cinnamon which is Debian 8.2 (fantasic OS btw). I usually use a blank, black wallpaper but the default color of the icon font is black. I googled this question for about an hour before I came here. How to change the icon font color on the desktop to white?
Just upgraded to Debian Jessie. I'm having a problem with the desktop and lockscreen that I never had before in Debian 7. Whenever I open the laptop to wake it up, there is very bad discoloration of the background. (screenshot : [URL] ..... )
Hardware is an IBM Lenovo T410 with no customizations. The graphics are factory nvidia. 3D acceleration works flawlessly, and I have no other issues except this background problem.

I am using the screen app, and have set bce to on, and issued the following commands to set my background and foreground color: tput setab 4; clear; tput setaf 7; clear;
This temporarily sets everything properly on my screen. However, when I issue any commands that change or set their own background color (for example, when I issue an "ls" command with colorized output), the background color gets lost for any new output and I have to reissue the commands listed above in order to retrieve my background color.Ideally I'd like to keep my background color when issuing these commands, as it serves as a good way to remind me of what environment I am currently issuing commands in.
I have an HP color laser printer and I am looking for a way to print black as black instead of using tri-color. For example If I print a document that has colored text then any black text is printed using the color cartridges rather then using black. I have been surviving by using windows XP in virtualbox but I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I've looked all over then net for a solution but I've found nothing. I remember having similar problems like this with older Macs because of postscript printing and I'm thinking this is the same problem but I don't know how to fix it. I've searched the forums as well but no joy.
For some reason, it cannot change my zoom levels like before in numerical order with the zoomy extension.I have tried refreshing the page and restarting the computer, this is with Jaunty.
Has this feature been removed from the version of Compiz that comes with 10.04?I was running 9.10 for a few months and I configured a feature for zooming out windows into a kind of preview mode.I remember setting up a key combo and when I clicked on any window and pressed the combo, it would cycle between 2 preview sizes of around 25% and 10% and then back to it's normal size.I could drag a zoomed-out window around the desktop but obviously it would not be usable until it was restored to normal size.
The window contents would still update though and it was a great way of keeping an eye on many windows at once.I have looked at every single setting in CompizConfig Settings Manager but it's nowhere to be found and I really miss it!
i have every effect working perfectly on gnome on my acer a110 netbook but cube seems to be proving difficult. Every time i drag a window along it seems to unfold not spin the cube.
Also how can i zoom out to see the cube on my netbook? on the desktop version IIRC system> preferences > advanced desktop effects > desktop cube < but it aint on the netbook
I have put a local marine chart as my wallpaper image (ubuntu 10.10). It's a high res tif image and looks good.
However, occasionally I'd like to zoom in on a particular point. Is there any way of doing this? (I'm not using compiz - as I don't need that level of eye candy).
I know I can open the image manually and zoom - but wondered if there was a way to do it on the wallpaper.
I want to, both, zoom using the SUPER key and the mouse wheel, and then releasing the SUPER key, while still somewhat zoomed-in, be able to scroll down/up the page with the mouse wheel. I could do it before, but I can't figure out/find out how to do it now.
Im looking for magnifying glass functionalty for ubuntu. I want to use it for web design: watching icons, borders, spaces, etc. I tried the compiz zoom, enhanced zoom and mynifying box bout all of them make things blurry and I couldn't find the way to make things "sharp". Is there such an option for those plugins or an alternative way to have that functionality?
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with wvdial and Gnome PPP, but I am unable to connect to the internet with my Zoom 3095 USB Modem. I tried several times and got similar results. I have got the connection log attached along with all of the mentions of pppd and all other lines in the file /var/log/messages from the first mention of pppd to the end of the file.
I've loaded Ubuntu 10.04 onto a dual boot machine. I have a Zoom 4411 Wireless-N USB dongle that works fine in Windows. The wireless network icon implies I'm connected but I can't connect to the internet or see the PCs on my network. I logged in as root and blacklisted rt2800usb. I am also getting a message about needing to enter the login keyring password, whatever that is. The system is set to log in automatically.Do I need to install the drivers at System -> Administration-> Hardware Drivers as well? Do I need to enter a BSSID in the wireless configuration screen? What is the BSSID if so?And most importantly, did I already post this question? Oh boy, is the ol' melon fried.
in Compiz -> Enhanced Zoom Desktop..when i am printing, i dont see other words, because the zoom area moving by mouse pointer location, but it's dont move with me in the print.
how do i make the screen zoom out abit as when i open some programs or some windows pop up they are bigger than my screen and i cant read them all or click on the buttons at the bottom, ive tried resizing the boxes but they usually only expand and i can never get them to shrink, all ive come across is things about zooming in and out but thats not really what i need,im running ubuntu 10.10 and im on a netbook.
