OpenSUSE :: Enhanced Zoom Desktop Doesn't Zoom

Jan 18, 2010

I have installed openSUSE 11.2 in my PC. To enable compiz I have download and installed (using OneClick) the nVidia driver for my nVidia GForce 8500GT video card.I need to enable the 'Enhanced Zoom' because I'm a low vision user and I need a magnifier better than Orca. The problem is that when i try to enable it (from ccsm) there isn't any zoom... I try to press META (or Super) and scroll with wheel (SUPER + Button 4) but nothing.

I have see that if I press Super+2 (increase zoom) the mouse pointer moves to a specific screen zone but the screen will not zoom.

Ubuntu :: Way To Make Filters In Thunderbird Permanently Delete Filtered Mail?

Mar 1, 2010

Does any one know a way to make the filters in Thunderbird permanently delete filtered mail? I tried "Mark Read" then "Delete" (or "Move to Trash") then "Delete". But most of them do not get deleted out of the Trash. I have had the same address since about 1997 and there are certain spams I know I will get every day no matter what and I would like them gone for good. I know I could just Empty the Trash but I sometimes search for things in there, and it has come in handy having all those emails.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Screen Brightness Permanently 100%?

May 11, 2011

I originally installed Maverick on my Macbook 5.1 using rEFIt to dual boot. For some reason, after installing Compiz my screen brightness functionality stopped working. It was permanently 100%. I thought that upgrading to Natty might work, but no luck. So far I've tried changing the brightness manually in terminal and in power-management, editing the grub file and also reinstalling compiz, all to no avail. Trying to alter brightness using the fn keys displays the brightness panel in the top right, and it decreases in value as it should, but the screen stays bright. The brightness settings work fine when I boot to Mac.

General :: Cat Made The Screen Permanently Unreadable

May 2, 2011

Kernel 2.6.21.5, Slackware 12.0. I have a file named juan34. I was sure it was a plain text file so, instead of running first 'file juan34' I directly did 'cat juan34'. The result was everything echoed to the console are the ascii caracters greater than 127 decimal. In other words, the screen is unreadable.

I typed 'exit' but this did not remedy the situation. The login prompt was written with these strange chars. In another console I'm running a program which I estimate will terminate execution in 20 hours or more, so I do not want to reboot the machine.

When I worked in MS-DOS, I had (made) a program that reinitialized the 6845 CRT controller, fixing this problem (for this could also happen under that O.S.). But, if there is a solution for MS-DOS, all the more so there must be one under unix/linux.

Debian Configuration :: Annoying Screen Artifacts Are Permanently Appearing?

Feb 4, 2010

every now and then there appear ugly artefacts on my screen. Until yesterday it happened every five to ten minutes; now it happens every few seconds. It is no fun to work with such a system, it is extremely annoying... The artefacts remember me on the artefacts you had 20 years ago when you overwrote an analog VHS-cassette a hundred times, except that the screen looks perfect between the moments the ugly artefacts are present. My notebook is a cheap Acer Extensa 5230E, exact specifications is being made public by my vendor: [URL]

Ubuntu :: Compiz Window Zoom

Jun 14, 2010

Has this feature been removed from the version of Compiz that comes with 10.04?I was running 9.10 for a few months and I configured a feature for zooming out windows into a kind of preview mode.I remember setting up a key combo and when I clicked on any window and pressed the combo, it would cycle between 2 preview sizes of around 25% and 10% and then back to it's normal size.I could drag a zoomed-out window around the desktop but obviously it would not be usable until it was restored to normal size.

The window contents would still update though and it was a great way of keeping an eye on many windows at once.I have looked at every single setting in CompizConfig Settings Manager but it's nowhere to be found and I really miss it!

Ubuntu :: Zoom On Wallpaper Image ?

Mar 19, 2011

I have put a local marine chart as my wallpaper image (ubuntu 10.10). It's a high res tif image and looks good.

However, occasionally I'd like to zoom in on a particular point. Is there any way of doing this? (I'm not using compiz - as I don't need that level of eye candy).

I know I can open the image manually and zoom - but wondered if there was a way to do it on the wallpaper.

General :: Gnome - Configure The Definition Of "full Screen" To Make Large VNC Windows Behave Nicely On A Dual Screen Setup?

Dec 15, 2010

In my corporate environment, I'm required to run a Windows machine that acquires a VNC session on a machine in the server farm. My windows machine is dual head with different resolution monitors ( 1600x1080 on left and 1920x1200 on right). If I create a VNC session that spans the monitors, then maximizing a window in the VNC session causes it to stretch across both my monitors.

Instead, I want a "maximize" event to behave like it does on my windows machine -- I only want to maximize to the display that the window is on.

How can I define what, what I'll call, "maximize regions"? Regions in the VNC graphical plane where when I click "maximize", the window only expands to the region it currently ( and mostly) resides in.

Can I do this in gnome, X, xrandr, or some other magical interface?

The system is set to log in automatically.Do I need to install the drivers at System -> Administration-> Hardware Drivers as well? Do I need to enter a BSSID in the wireless configuration screen? What is the BSSID if so?And most importantly, did I already post this question? Oh boy, is the ol' melon fried.

Ubuntu :: Get A Zoom Wireless-n Usb Adapter To Work?

Aug 14, 2010

I've been trying to get a Zoom wireless-n usb adapter to work. It works under Windows once I enable file & printer sharing.I tried to connect directly to the D-Link router using its IP4 address. I received the message the site could not be found. I used network manager (I think. I'm new to wireless ubuntu networking) and manually set the computer's IP4, Gateway, and netmask addresses. Nothing. I connect the ethernet patch cable and I'm in. Network Manager show the wireless network, set as automatic log in, as never used even tho I've connected to it manually several times. The router is in multi-mode - b, g, & n.

I'd show the output from sudo ifconfig -a, and sudo lsmod | grep rt but I keep getting this error message: " 1. You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 15 posts or more."Windows shows the adapter as rt2780 but here you can see it's claiming rt3070. The wireless icon shows it's getting a signal and I can connect to the local network, or so it seems. I'm running it thru a D-Link DIR-628 router. Is there something else I'm missing?

Ubuntu :: Change Default Zoom Level In Evince?

Jan 2, 2010

I need to change the default zoom level for Evince. There must be some way to do this. Besides, can Evince start without any PDF file loaded? Also, what is the command line to execute evince? (I run Linux Mint 8 based on Koala 9.10). Whenever it loads a file for which it assigns a zoom level more than 175% or 200%, the whole PC hangs if I click on the "reduce zoom" icon in the toolbar. This is a very big regression.

This is ridiculous! Even ePDFViewer is better than this. I really would like to stay with Evince for the time being, and not need to move to Foxit.
