every time I paste any file in the windows D ntfs partition there's an annoying message it wasn't able to change the file properties, why does this happens from using kubuntu only but not from ubuntu?

When right clicking a song in Rhythmbox and selecting properties I should be able to change the name of the album for example. However I am able to select the content of the field I am not able to alter it.

I know how to add programs to the side bar but can't figure out how to change the top bar menus. When I ran 32bit thru a windows vm I had a top bar where I could access the programs and no side bar. I liked it better than the 2 bar setup in my 64bit wubi install. Can it be changed?

It's a bit of a fag having to change between them via the gui depending on where I am. Can the proxy be changed by command line because then I can set up a script to use the right proxy automatically? - e.g. use remote proxy if my mobile is connected via usb.
Had a google but don't think gnome-network-properties has command line options so I might be approaching this from the wrong tack.
trying to update a 11.1 installation. As I start the installation I get a message "openSuse 11.0 partition /dev/sda5 Change the mount-by to any other method for all partitions." Also the message said go back and reboot and make the change. What is this all about, how do I do this.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI'm brand new to Linux and Ubunto 10.04.On the menu bar at the top of my desktop I seem to have attracted some kind of bug!The Log Out Symbol repeats itself across almost the entire menu bar and I cannot remove it. If I remove other buttons from the menu the space is immediately replaced by more Log Out Buttons.When I hover on the icon I get the message 'Log out of this session to log in as a different user' and when I right-cllick to click on 'Remove from Panel' or 'Move' nothing happens.It is not possible to right-click on another part of the menu bar to change the Menu Properties.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI been running both OS's for a few months now with no major problems besides wireless internet issues. Today, however, as I go to boot my laptop up, the Dell logo loads with the F2 and F12 boot and setup options which both work. Directly after that though I get the message "GRUB loading. Symbol '?' not found. Aborted. Press any key to Exit." then it repeats when I push a key, and then it tells me to press F1 to retry, F2 to go to setup, or F5 to run diagnostics. It passes all the tests in diagnostics. I've tried booting off of the ubuntu cd I used to load it initially with no luck. So I'm stuck at either that error message or in setup but I can't go any further, and it does not change anything when I tried to boot from the cd.

i borrowed an external hard drive from my friend to back up a load of stuff on my windows partition before reinstalling it. I am doing this through ubuntu. I am trying to zip up folders like My Documents etc and chuck them on the external hard drive but it always comes up with errors to do with read/write permissions. In the permissions tab on the folder properties of the ext hard drive it says I am owner but i have no file access (only folder access is create and delete files). When i try to give myself read/write permission it just goes straight back to nothing when i look at it again.

I tried on one particion make just for it then I even tried on xp on C: I even put it on a pendrive but my bios is old and do not provide for usb booting. The other thing I have to try is making a boot cd but for one reason or the other , my recorder do not want to recornized my cds- rw and right now I do not have any regular blank cds . That will be my next step. Note: Ubuntu appears installed on the the control panel "add or removed programs" but not in "all programs" list. I'm a novice on this so maybe the answer was posted but I couldn't find it. Looking ahead to try it and be part of the linux team.

In attempt to update to LMMS 0.4.5, I downloaded & attempted to install : lmms_0.4.5~ppa-1jaunty_i386.deb and got the following error message : Error : Dependency is not satisfiable : lmms-common (=0.4.5~ppa-1jaunty). What went wrong and is there an easier way to update ? Also, should I remove the older version or just install the latest on top of it ?

I currently use mint gnome 9 as my OS but I have am having a problem with the boot up on my computer. It starts booting but then stops with a message saying K8 NPT DATA CHANGE UPDATE NEW DATA to DMI UPDATE SUCCESS and stops there and doesn't go any further. its a BIOS or a CMOS. what this message means and how to fix it?

When I initially upgraded Im certain that when Evolution alerted me of an upcoming event, that the mail alert icon on the top panel would change to indicate the pending event. However, for the last few days Ive noticed that when Evolution alerts trigger I see the alert bubble, which quickly fades, but the mail alert icon does not change. If Im not right at my workstation when the alert triggers its easy to miss upcoming events. I googled around for a solution, but found nothing or missed it.
