Server :: Slow Access To Web Site Using Squid And Internet Explorer.

Apr 4, 2010

Slow access to web site using squid and Internet explorer.I am trying to troubleshoot an issue I am stuck on. We have a website that is loading .htm documents extremely slow when using Internet Explorer 8 behind Squid. When we bypass the proxy and go directly out to the internet all is fast and pages load fine. But when the proxy is on documents will take sometimes up to 6 minutes to load. This issue is only apparent using Internet explorer 8.I do not see the issue when using firefox with Squid.I have tried to use the no_cache directive thinking it may have been the cache but that didn't work either.I am attaching our access.log, store.log and squid.conf.

General :: Internet Explorer Not Downloading Files From System Server / Work Around This?

Jan 27, 2010

I have a very simple php web application deployed on linux (centOS4) machine. It creates a file and stores the file in /tmp folder on my linux machine. The path for this file is specified in the href attribute of the link. Ideally when we click this link the download manager should pop up so that the file can be downloaded on client machine.
When i access this website remotely from my window xp machine on firefox it downloads the file properly but when i run on internet explorer (i have IE7 on my windows XP) and click the link, the download manager does'nt pop's up. even when i right-click that link and select save as, an error message pop's up saying "file path not found". possibly IE is not able to determine the linux file path .so how do i work around this. is there some specific way for specifying the linux file paths to be downloaded by IE?

Has anyone successfully got Explorer 7 or 8 working on 11.1? If so can you let me know how you did it?

Ubuntu Installation :: Clicking On "Home" Yields "Wine Internet Explorer"

Oct 17, 2010

Using Gnome, when I click on "Places", the usual drop-down menu appears; but clicking on "Home" or any of the other options in the top portion of the menu yields, not Nautilus, but "Wine Internet Explorer". What can I do to fix this?

Background: I just performed a clean install of Maverick, after a failed attempt to upgrade to 10.10 via the Update Manager. This is on an IBM Thinkpad T42, on which Ubuntu is the only operating system, all traces of MS Windows--including "Internet Explorer"--having been eliminated. In Ubuntu, the root folder, "/", and the home folder, "/home", are on separate partitions, of approximately 10GB and 40GB, respectively. Previously, 9.04, 9.10, and 10.04 have worked just fine.

Ubuntu Networking :: Just Installed 10 - No Internet Connection

Nov 2, 2010

I've just installed Ubuntu 10 as a last resort to save my laptop from the bin. However, I'm having similar issues to when I installed 9.x a few months back. First off, I have no network connection at all (using another laptop just now). I've plugged in the network cable from the modem and although it looks to be doing something, it doesn't establish a connection. The wireless is also not connected due to Firmware not installed. I remeber this was a common issue with the Broadcom 43xx modem but I need to get the wired network going first to be able to download drivers *I think*.

Ubuntu Networking :: 11.04 BCM4311 Drivers Installed - But No Internet ?

May 22, 2011

I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my mom's Inspiron 1521 and before I had it on there I had a older version of ubuntu which worked fine and could connect to the Internet, but since my mother isn't that well educated in computers and wants a simple to use UI, Ubuntu came into mind.

Well after installing ubuntu for a hour or two and trying to configure the drivers to allow Internet access with out a USB adapter using the BCM4311 I tried everything such as following the pretty basic tutorials online on installing the drivers with no luck. I check the additional drivers application and it's telling me the drivers are installed properly and are okay. ... Well, why am I not able to find a list of wifi connections yet?

I did the update command and updated every package on the machine. I reinstalled the kernal drivers for the BCM4311. I even installed the installer for the kernal device and nothing seems to be working.

Ubuntu :: Slow Internet Speeds After 11.04 64bit Installed?

Jul 29, 2011

I have recently switched to Ubuntu 11.04 64bit from Windows 7. Since installing 11.07 I have experienced random disconnects, slow speeds and just overall poor performance from my ethernet card. Looking into the issue further I noticed that the driver installed for my NIC is "driver=r8169", but the actual NIC card is "product: RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller" which I think pretty much says I should be running the 8168 driver.

When I run lsmod I only see "r8169 " installed. How do I go about getting and installing the r8168 driver? I am pretty sure I just need to install this driver and then blacklist the r8169 in blacklist.conf. Any clarification would be great.

Ubuntu :: Files Missing From Explorer?

Mar 23, 2010

Ok so I transferred about 6 or 7 gigs of music and videos to my laptop in 2 folders and 1 file just in the d:/ folder. This leftme with just one gig of space left on the drive. Now I turned of my computer and the next day when I turned it on, the files were gone or so I thought. The files are still taking up the space and when I tried defragging in windows, the files showed up under files not defragged and so did their old directories, but they still do not show up in ubuntu or windows explorer, I cannot navigate to them or open them, yet they are still on my hardrive and taking up space. How do I either get access to these files or delete them to free up space?
