OpenSUSE :: Need Internet Explorer 7 - 8 To Be Working On Opensuse 11.1
Sep 29, 2010
I'm needing Internet Explorer 7-8 to access 1 web site (there had to be one and I need to access it.) I have installed the ies4linix which has successfully got Explorer 6 working, but the beta for 7 doesn't work.
The Explorer 7 opens up fine, the world spins around and at the bottom of the page the solid blue gets half way and stops. I don't know what to do next.
Has anyone successfully got Explorer 7 or 8 working on 11.1? If so can you let me know how you did it?
I have configured a squid proxy server with @2 eth in different network subnet and with site blocking and extn file download blocking. One eth0 for office wired network and another eth1 is for office wireless network for laptop use for guest and visitors.
The problem is [URL] is an Indian government website, which is not working though this proxy server and the Internet Explorer is getting very slow and freezing the computer. In alternate I have configured a another test server with squid proxy with out any security and test the same. the problem is still with the all the computer in the network. The above website is perfectly working with Gateway configuration in TCP/IP properties in Network Configuration in MS Windows XP computers but through squid proxy its not working.
I have a share accessible from XP. However if I go for lunch and come back when I click on the share in Explorer it says its not accessible. When I click on it again it works. Its like the network card in the Suse server is going to sleep but I cant see any settings for it. I know where they are in XP and wonder if they are somewhere in openSuse? Or if there is some other explanation.
I use an internet connection with a proxy. I have set the proxy in Firefox and systemsettings so now I can browse the web and I can ping Google from Console. But when I start Software Management, it says "Cannot access installation media". Whats wrong?
i really like opensuse because it looks cool, heard it has th ebest kde out there, and seems very professional compard to ubuntu and kubuntu and minti have one problem stopping me from using kde, and its in all versions.i use a pppoe connection, and in gnome i simply right go to edit connections, DSL, make new dsl, enter my information, set to connect automaticcly, go to auto eht0 disable connect automaticcly, boom internet at startup. i cant find out how to make a pppoe connection in opensuse at all in fact.the DSL in internet manager is greyed out.this should be something very simple to do, how do i go about doing it?
Just recently installed Opensuse 11.2 in a KDE environment. The problem I am facing is that when I connect it to my network either via wired or wirless neither getting internet or access to the network although the network manager shows the connection as active I am using a Dlink Di-524 Wireless Router at home The Wirless router for the computer is Broadcom BCM 4312 Was able to install the drivers for this from the packman repository
Also when I connect my laptop directly to the internet connection via wired it is working fine. However if i connect it to my wireless router either over wifi or thru wired it just shows connected but i can neither access internet or other computers on the network. Have checked the wireless router other computers (windows and ubuntu are being able to access the internet via it) Results of my ifconfig-a command when i am connected over my wirless connection code...
I'm new to OpenSuSE and have just booted up an Acer Aspire 4736z laptop with the 11.2 livecd. All of the specs (gathered from lspci -n) are available here: Debian HCL - Acer / Aspire 4736Z. Wired internet does not work. I have tried `modprobe atl1e` then `service network restart`to no effect. NetworkManager says nothing is plugged in (perhaps a hotplugging issue?). eth0 is listed in ifconfig.
I have just installed openSuse 11.2, but my network connection isn't working. I'm new to linux so i don't know how to approach this problem and how to diagnose what's the problem. Few information about my system: I have Asus X51L laptop with KDE installed. I have cable internet wired to laptop via ethernet network card. In Windows XP my connection is working without problems, but in Suse I have problemsThe main problem is when I enter Suse PC light (on modem) is not working, and it should blink (at least in Windows does). Cable and power light is turned on, and that's good.
I am currently running OpenSuse newest version but this problem has been happening to every linux installation I have done. My Computer is a ACER ASPIRE 5515. Here are specs:
ProductAspire 5515 LanguageEnglish ModelAspire 5515 Series Specifications Part Number
[code]....
Operating System Windows Vista Home Basic (Service Pack 1)(varies by model) Anyways here is what happens, and this only happens to me when i run linux. THIS NEVER HAPPENED WHILE RUNNING WINDOWS VISTA OR WINDOWS XP. First icons will disapear and text will not work, images wont be there, system dock and explorer will just not work, the start menu will have nothing in it, and when i restart it, (manual) it will boot and show me specs and say "NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND" and when i go into BIOS it says IDE0:_______ not the hard drive name and size like it usually does.
I've installed opensuse 11.2 on an old IBM thinkpad. The install went without a hitch and when I got to the desktop I inserted my Dlink DWL-G132 wireless USB adapter. Opensuse immediately recognised that a wireless device was attached and I could see my wireless network listed. I entered my WPA password and was able to connect to my routers configuration page by entering 192.168.0.1 in the URL bar of firefox. For some reason I am unable to navigate to any webpage. When I enter a URL firefox acts as though there is no internet connection. The only way I can get the internet on my laptop is to connect it to my router with a cable. I used a wired connection and ran the update utility thinking that perhaps an update would fix the issue but it did not. I know the adapter works because the laptop used to have windows xp installed and I could connect fine with that.
Does anyone here have any idea why I would be able to connect wirelessly to the routers configuration page but not to the internet? I appreciate any advice anyone may have.
recently ran into a problem with my internet access. Im using open suse 11.2 on a Dell Vostro 1520 laptop. I managed to get my wlan running and i can use firefox to access my router. In my router the laptop is also showing as connnected, dhcp reserved an ip for it.However if i try to browse the internet, no page is loading, actually no software that needs access to the web is working.
Is it possible to run Internet Explorer on Ubuntu without using wine? I use some sites which are only compatible with IE. The sites require Internet Explorer version 5.0 or above.
Does anyone know a way to install internet explorer 7-8-9 on ubuntu?I installed ubuntu a couple of month back and I'm start work next month developing websites. Without IE 7-8-9 I need to go back to Windows and I really don't want that
I tried to set up my internet connection using the network manager and not the classic iufp method. At first it just didn't work but after deactivating IPv6 I got it working: firefox can connect to the internet. What troubles me is the online update with Update Applet. The following message pops up: "Error: packageKit error repo-not-available: Failed to download /media fromAlso when I go to Yast->Software->Software repositories I get the msg:Systemadministration is blocked by PID 2459 (/usr/sbin/packagekitd). Close the application and try again.Using the command "sudo zypper refresh"eates the same message.I spent already hours trying to figure out the problem without luck
i installed Opensuse 11.2 recently but the wireless internet wasn't working been searching for few days now and i can't find the solution. it shows my modem, and i can connect to it but for some reason it appears to drop the connection it keeps asking me for my encreption key so btw is one of the first times i worked with linux / opensuse.
i did install opensuse and everything ok; i did configure it to be the server and gateway for a little office network Everything seems to be ok most of the time but sometimes (usually between 5 and 7 pm each day) internet stops working and there is no way to let it start again. So i turn off the suse, switch all cables to the old fedora server, just turn it on fedora and internet works. Turn off fedora, connect suse, let it start and everythng ok...it happens all the times
Slow access to web site using squid and Internet explorer.I am trying to troubleshoot an issue I am stuck on. We have a website that is loading .htm documents extremely slow when using Internet Explorer 8 behind Squid. When we bypass the proxy and go directly out to the internet all is fast and pages load fine. But when the proxy is on documents will take sometimes up to 6 minutes to load. This issue is only apparent using Internet explorer 8.I do not see the issue when using firefox with Squid.I have tried to use the no_cache directive thinking it may have been the cache but that didn't work either.I am attaching our access.log, store.log and squid.conf.
I have a very simple php web application deployed on linux (centOS4) machine. It creates a file and stores the file in /tmp folder on my linux machine. The path for this file is specified in the href attribute of the link. Ideally when we click this link the download manager should pop up so that the file can be downloaded on client machine. When i access this website remotely from my window xp machine on firefox it downloads the file properly but when i run on internet explorer (i have IE7 on my windows XP) and click the link, the download manager does'nt pop's up. even when i right-click that link and select save as, an error message pop's up saying "file path not found". possibly IE is not able to determine the linux file path .so how do i work around this. is there some specific way for specifying the linux file paths to be downloaded by IE?
I am using Squid Server from last 5years. There is a site "http://www.firstflight.net", which was accessible before few days but now I am unable to access this site. If I use IE8 then getting below error:
"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
Or using Google chrome getting error:
"This webpage is not available The webpage at http://www.firstflight.net/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. Error 330 (net::ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED): Unknown error."
I know this is not a win-doze forum but i always ask my questions here so here goes.I am having what appears to be a DNS problem on a friends laptop. He is running windows XP. I CAN connect to networks and even ping websites but i CANNOT browse in Internet Explorer or FIrefox.
It should give me daily internet usage stats something/vaguely like this:-I have tried ntop and darkstat ,but they were too complicated and cannot be launched from notification area like this..Also tried using KtrafficAnlyzer by installing KDE core, i am not very amused by the idea of having to install a massive run time file package for a simple tool.
