Ubuntu :: Can't Stay On Track And Doesn't Respond To Keys At Certain Times

Mar 17, 2010

my 9.04 64 bit ubuntu machine is having some major stuttering issue, as in it can't stay on track and doesn't respond to keys at certain times, the normal flashing text bar is flashing very quickly and very eradically as well. I reinstalled ubuntu keeping my /home on a separate partition, and then upgraded to 9.10 thinking that'd fix it, it didn't.at this point i don't know what's happening, My windows partition is fine.

Debian Hardware :: Keyboard Multimedia Keys Doesn't Respond After Power Failure

Jul 23, 2014

Yesterday something has happened with power supply, so 2 of 3 PCs has shut down. And now my debian pc doesn't respond to multimedia (volume to be precise) keys, leds also doesn't work. Other keys are fine. Tried xev, but it doesn't respond to multimedia keys either. I have dual boot with Win7 on this machine, and it works fine with multimedia keys.

I believe this is a clue:

Ubuntu :: Keys Stay On In Searchandrescue

Jan 4, 2010

So lately I've been playing searchandrescue and I think it's great, like a simpler version of Simcopter. But for some reason the key will stay on until I close the game, and occasionally after I close it. For example, if I hit m to check my map while the engine is revving up, it will stay on, and when I hit a button that requires typing, it will just be a bunch of m's. Or sometimes if I hit an arrow key it will stay on, then I'll exit the game and move up to the menu and the key will still be going, but when I hit the key again after the game is closed it will stop. Any ideas on this one? Once I figure out the command to start searchandrescue in the terminal I'll post the output when the bug occurs.

Hardware :: Backlight Keys Slow To Respond?

Apr 13, 2010

I have an Asus K50IJ running Fedora(which I love as it fixed my sound problems). When I first log in, I can press the brightness keys and it responds immediately for 4-5 keypresses. After that, it has a ~10 second delay between me pressing the key and the computer responding. When using acpi_listen, it displayed that it recognizes the event long after I press the key. This is a pretty minor issue, but very annoying. Here's some possibly-relevant output from dmesg:

Code:
ata2.00: ACPI cmd ef/10:06:00:00:00:a0 (SET FEATURES) succeeded
ata2.00: ACPI cmd ef/10:03:00:00:00:a0 (SET FEATURES) filtered out

Server :: Get Ping To Simply Respond With The Actual Response Times Rather Than A Rounded Off Number?

Oct 11, 2010

I recently setup a new Linux server running Fedora 10. For some reason all ping response times are rounded to the nearest 10ms. For example, running the simple command "ping yahoo.com" give the following sample results:

64 bytes from ir1.fp.vip.re1.yahoo.com (69.147.125.65): icmp_seq=12 ttl=57 time=60.0 ms
64 bytes from ir1.fp.vip.re1.yahoo.com (69.147.125.65): icmp_seq=13 ttl=56 time=50.0 ms
64 bytes from ir1.fp.vip.re1.yahoo.com (69.147.125.65): icmp_seq=14 ttl=56 time=40.0 ms
64 bytes from ir1.fp.vip.re1.yahoo.com (69.147.125.65): icmp_seq=15 ttl=56 time=50.0 ms

I could post a larger result set but its all the same... every response is rounded to a multiple of 10ms. This wouldn't be a big deal except that the server is running Nagios for monitoring so accurate stats are important. The Nagios check_ping and check_icmp commands are also returning rounded off results. How can I get ping to simply respond with the actual response times rather than a rounded off number?

Fedora :: Random Times Roles Of Caps Lock And Control Keys Gets Reverted Back To Normal

Oct 18, 2010

I have a problem with keyboard mappings on F13. I have the following in my .xmodmap file that is run from .bash_profile:

[code]...

The problem is that at seemingly random times the roles of the caps lock and control keys (and the other customisations) gets reverted back to normal - which makes for an awful lot of confusion! Running xmodmap again switches them to how I like it, but again after a seemingly random period it resets itself. This occurs under KDE and Gnome in F13, but did not occur in F12. Using the KDE keyboard settings dialog to switch caps lock and control does the exhibits the same behaviour.

Ubuntu :: USB Startup Disk Creator Doesn't Respond?

Jan 19, 2010

I have been an Ubuntu user for a few years now, and in the previous versions I have made numerous bootable USB devices, I always thought it was so useful, and I never have had any problems.I just installed version 9.10 the other day, and it seems to be working well, but the USB bootable disk creator is messed up big time. When i try to select an .iso image to add to the source disk image area, it is just unresponsive. And when i try to do something else, like format a USB device, it says i cannot format because the device cannot mounted. But i know its mounted because i can access the contents of the drive.Anyways this was a huge disappointment as I was showing a friend how useful the UBUNTU tools are, and it does this. Does anyone know anything about this bug?

Ubuntu :: System Doesn't Stay Shutdown?

Nov 27, 2010

When I shut down the computer, it does not remain shut down. This is different from "restarting" the computer because when I "shutdown" the computer powers down, the fan and disks stop spinning for a second, and then everything starts again. When I "restart" the fan and disks remain spinning throughout the restart process.Further, the computer is dual booting with Windows XP Pro. If I shut down from Windows, the system remains shut down.

Ubuntu :: Nautilus Causes Complete System Freeze; Ctrl+Alt+Fx Doesn't Respond?

May 29, 2011

All of these freezes happen either while I'm in Nautilus or I'm opening Nautilus. The usual Ctrl+Alt+Fx (x being one to six) to get into the backstage does not work. If I have some music open then it would start looping the last couple of seconds. Now generally I would go check the logs, but I see no nautilus logs so what should I check? This is all pretty recent. I think that this started to happen when one day exim4 (and some packages all marked exim) got updated but I cannot be certain. Major playing-around after that would be some Wine issues but the system froze once before all that Wine fun.So step one, what should I check?

EDIT: OK, .xsession-errors ouput:
Code:
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...

General :: Networking - Doesn't Respond To Pings - View The Arp Cache Table?

Jan 20, 2011

I have a Slackware 13.0 server that is not replying to icmp pings. However, I have double checked that /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all is set to 0. The weird thing is I can run nc -v slackware 22 from any computer on my lan and the banner comes up just fine. The nic is on the same netmask and broadcast as all the other computers on my lan. I can log into it as well, it just doesn't respond to pings. I can even ping other computers and get replies just fine when pinging from inside the Slackware server.

I have even added an iptables INPUT rule for -p icmp -j ACCEPT. Although I've never had to do this. I ran tcpdump -vv icmp and I can see ping requests coming into the computer, however slackware simply doesn't respond. What could be causing this? A corrupt arp cache? It's been happening for more than a few hours so I wouldn't think so. How can I view the arp cache table? How do I clear it?
