Ubuntu :: Apt-cacher-ng Error: 302 Moved Temporarily
Mar 14, 2010
I've been attempting to install Virtualbox 3.1 on my desktop using the "Add and Remove Software" facility. All attempts result in failure with the "Details" error message box issuing
Quote: Failed to fetch [URL]...armic_i386.deb 302 Moved Temporarily [IP: ::1 3142] I have recently freshly installing Karmic and apt-cacher-ng after a disk crash. I was running Hardy and apt-cacher previously. I successfully installed Virtualbox 3.1 on my laptop through apt-cacher-ng on the desktop machine. However, I now realise that I had neglected to change the entries in /etc/apt/sources.list on my laptop from

I am using ubuntu 11.04 and I moved the maximize, minimize and close buttons to the right corner using gconf-editor besides that, I added the menu button to the left corner that's the one which is causing problems.
Whenever I click it, all window decorations (meaning borders) disappear.
I end up with two options, either logging out and back into ubuntu, what restarts all programs (as well as compiz as far as I understand) and the problem is gone (at least temporarily) the other nonpermanent fix is to disable and reenable window decorations in the compizconfig settings manager, the result of that action is not really a fix, since it leaves my top panel (which is usually transparent) completely scrambled

I was just mucking about in xfce, trying out new window buttons in conjunction with the black theme - dusk?? - when POW! - X shut down. Rebooting didn't restore things. Error is along these lines:
xfce4-session: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0. xfwm4: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0.
[Code]....
Is there a config file I can edit to get away from the window button setting it dislikes, or is reinstalling xfce the only option?

I have used apt-cacher successfully for a long time on my home LAN. Its been great but after a recent server crash I decided to switch to apt-cacher-ng due to reports of lower memory footprint and faster response. Thats all well and good and after just a little mucking around it seems to be working.
But there are a few old (but still current) debs that I am having trouble importing into the apt-cacher-ng cache. Most of them were picked up after adding all the repos to my client and running apt-get update. But there are still a few that aren't.(the 2 biggest ones are from the same repo). My client machine runs apt-get update without fault but when I import (using the apt-cacher-ng web interface) it lists all the repos (including the one these debs should be in) but isn't importing any more of the debs. There are no errors showing.

I have two Ubuntu PCs at home and I found out about apt-cacher as a means of reducing internet usage for updates. (my connection speeds aren't that good). When I install apt-cacher, is it possible for anyone on the internet to use my PC as a repository? If so, how can I allow only computers on my LAN to access the apt-cacher cache?

Is it possible to configure a cron script to update the packages in /var/cache/apt-cacher/packages? When a client machine updates a package, apt-cacher checks that it's cached package is up-to-date, and downloads a new version if it is not.
I'd like apt-cacher to check it's cached packages every night and download any updated ones, on the premise that since it exists in the apt-cacher cache, someone has that package installed and is going to want to update it. Is this possible? Does apt-cacher do this anyway, and I haven't noticed?

I've been running Samba on Gentoo as a PDC for a Windows XP domain for several years. We are using the IdealX smbldap tools to maintain users, we are storing accounts in OpenLDAP, and everything has been just golden for quite a while. However, for various reasons, we are migrating our servers away from Gentoo and onto Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit). Unfortunately, replicating our Samba PDC/OpenLDAP backend on Ubuntu is kicking our backsides.I've got Samba 3.4.7 running. I've got OpenLDAP running. ldapsearch/ldapmodify/ldapadd all work correctly. However, when I try to mount a Samba share on another Ubuntu machine, I get...:
Code:
testuser@testhost:~$ sudo mount.cifs //192.168.4.173/testuser /home/testuser/mnt/testuser --verbose -o

I'm looking to temporarily disable NetworkManager while I configure some things in a shell. It's interfering by auto-reconnecting and using the network interface in the process. I've tried killing the process but that just seems to disconnect the network not kill the NetworkManager applet. I don't want to uninstall, and I don't want to have it disabled on startup. I just want to "close" it or "turn it off" temporarily! How can I do this? Also, I'm using 10.04

Having an issue with PlaneShift in regards to this error in terminal:
Code:
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-close.c: 731: _dl_close: Assertion `map->l_init_called' failed! On search of the PlaneShift forums, I saw someone state disabling OpenAL would fix this.
I've searched Google and these forums, but still can't find a guide to disable OpenAL. So how would I go about disabling this temporarily so I can get PlaneShift working?

I'm currently trying to learn how to get around Blender, but I keep running into the same problem. Blender relies heavily on shortcuts and keystrokes to navigate it's GUI, but very often they clash with the shortcuts on my desktop. The result is that the desktop shortcut wins, making Blender impossible to use effectively.
Is there any way to disable the desktop shortcuts temporarily while using the software, and then setting them back when I'm done?

I have had ubuntu installed for a few months now and have been loving it. Yesterday I wanted to get JDK installed for a found a forum that said how to install it on ubuntu. The installation was not a success (I am not sure why because I am not skilled when it comes to the command line and I didn't understand the error). Later, I tried to install a different application just through the ubuntu software center and it said it was waiting for a different software manager to finish. I didn't understand what was still running because I had all other applications closed that I know of.
Once I restarted the problem was the same. Then I found a bug where people had the same problem with the software manager and they entered this and fixed it:
sudo dpkg --configure -a Now whenever I try to apt-get anything I get:
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

I have been experiencing issues when switching users since my last update; I filed a bug, but I was interested if anybody else was having the same problem:URL...In a nutshell the computer freezes temporarily during the switch user process. The longer it is running, the longer the freeze lasts. When frozen the screen is black except for a mouse pointer; but the mouse and keyboard are not responsive including the usual X command keys (Ctrl-Alt-Del, Ctrl-Alt-Bksp, Ctrl-Alt-F1, etc.).When I get the chance I am going to rollback gdm to see if that makes a difference.

As part of my job, I have to configure a lot of network devices that are configured through web pages. This generally means plugging in to them via ethernet, going to their default IP address and reconfiguring them. I set my IP address using ifconfig, which is much faster than plugging numbers in to networkmanager's GUI. The problem is, NetworkManager seems to take the interface down at random.I could disable NetworkManager but then I don't have a wireless connection. Is there a way to tell NetworkManager to temporarily ignore what is happening on a specific interface or should I just ditch NM altogether when doing this kind of work and use wpa_supplicant to get on my wireless? My co-worker with the Windows machine is looking over my shoulder and chuckling

This is probably already on these forums, but I recently re-installed suse 11.3 and had the desktop effects working fine with the desktop cube animation and everything. But not the case this time...I resume compositing, and try my desktop effect shortcuts, but nothing happens and it comes up saying for me to press Alt+Shift+F12 to resume the compositing again. I do that, but still nothing, and I even re-apply the desktopct settings completely and restart the computer and it comes up saying that none of them were activated or something in the notifications pop-up on the bottom right of the screen. I thought I downloaded the right files (OpenGL??) from the repositories along with basically anything I thought would make it work.

Midnight Commander startup is usually instantaneous, but when the network (eth0) is down, mct takes over a minute to start. This is a known problem. See:#40 (savannah: MC doesn't open if network gateway inaccessible.) (07 Jan 2007)for example. The problem seems to be caused by mc's use of samba. Is there a known solution or circumvention? The above file advises me to "comment out the eth0 interface from the smb.conf "; however, my /etc/samba/smb.conf seems to have no eth0 interface. The "man mc" file mentions that "smbfs" is one of the virtual file systems used internally by mc. I tried reducing the "vfs" timeout in the ".mc/ini" file from 60 to 5, but this had no effect on the startup time.

I'm working a program to implement a simple multi-process browser. The browser works by having a ROUTER process as the parent of everything else in the program. There's another process called the CONTROLLER which is part of where the user can input information. To tell the ROUTER to make a new tab in the browser the user activates a function from the CONTROLLER to send the create new tab information to the ROUTER:
Code:
void new_tab_created_cb(GtkButton *button, gpointer data)

Using ubuntu 9.10 Karmic 64 bit
Firefox version: 3.6.9 Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu canonical - 1.0
about:config is default
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.9) Gecko/20100825 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.6.9
When I access some websites, especially certain forums or atempt to post, the tab seems to be loading but doesn't do anything. If I then exit firefox I cannot ping anything (IP or address) in terminal. If I then open Epiphany it fixes everything until firefox next does this. This is happening from 1 - 10 times an hour and is starting to get to me.
