View 5 Repliesi have a Levano S10e intel atom preccessor and the net-book is not connecting wirelessly to the network. i have tried at two locations and even plugged in a exterlal wifi adapter. it wouldnt connect then either, the only way to get connected is to use a cat5 cable. here is the ifconfig output with no cat5 inserted and it not connecting to the internet.:

I was trying to configure wireless network on my ubuntu machine but could not do it. I am possibly stuck as I don't know much about configuring things on linux platforms.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I've been trying to install OpenSUSE on my laptop. The installation went smoothly and then the trouble comes: connecting to the internet. It seems that every time I run a KDE based distro, I have trouble connecting. I've done everything I can think of (which wasn't much): I've run the YaST and tried setting it up that way. I've tried using the terminal and iwconfig to no avail.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've searched all night for similar threads and either don't understand the instructions or find that my computer simply isn't the same! I've tried to gather as much information as I felt needed when people asked in other threads. Just use small words around me, I'm really *that* technologically inadequet. Why I bought a linux ubuntu computer is still a mystery!
I'm having trouble connecting to my home's wireless internet, which is linksys. I can connect via wire just fine, but I want to access my built-in wireless card. How do I set up the wireless for this machine? Here's the info of what version of Ubuntu and about the card.

I tried to setup sharing to connect Ethernet and wireless. I want Ethernet connected to desktop A, and wireless connected to another laptop(B), with my laptop acting as an AP. I set the network settings in Firestarter: Internet for wireless, local network for Ethernet. I want to share Internet from laptop B over the network. Internet won't work from my laptop since it seems to use the wrong interface.(Since the desktop is sharing Internet, although not on Internet usually when connected via Ethernet. And of course DNS/Gateway IPs aren't set for wlan0 since it's acting as an AP.) SMB wouldn't work for desktop A and laptop B: laptop B could detect desktop, but reports error "Path not found".

(*) Can not open web pages via IP address.
(*) Can ping internal hardware no problem.
(*) I can connect to the Internet via Ethernet no problem.
(*) I used to be able to connect via wireless on this computer. No settings changed in the interim.
(*) Several other computers currently connected & accessing Internet via the same wireless - no problem.
(*) Based on other posts, I disabled the avahi daemon, but this had no effect.

I have never seen this before but to connect to the internet either wired or wireless I have to connect to a broadband connection as well. I am currently using wireless; I connect to ISP with wireless but in order to access the internet I have connect to the wireless connection through my broadband connection(This is where I enter a user name and password.). I'm not sure why this is, I have always just plugged an Ethernet cable in and the computer just knew I guess.
I am using ubuntu-10.04-netbook-i386.iso that I had put onto a USB drive. It booted fine, but when I tried accessing the internet I couldn't. I was able to connect to the ISP, but I couldn't find any settings for a broadband connection. My computer is a Acer Aspire One Netbook 250
Intel Atom
CPU N270 @ 1.60GHz
1.60 GHz 1.99 GB of RAM
Network Adapters
Atheros AR 5B95 Wireless Network Adapter

I have a wireless router, but my desktop computer is connecting to it, or maybe to the modem, by an Ethernet cable. It has a built-in wireless card, so just as an experiment, I tried to connect to my network wirelessly. It didn't work. And not only did I not get any internet connection, I can't get any internet through the wired connection either. The internet works fine with Windows Vista (I'm dual-booting), as well as when I boot up Backtrack off of a Live DVD. I can still access my router's config page by going to 192.168.2.1 on a web browser, but I can't access anything else.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis problem started a few days ago. Whenever I attempt to connect to a wireless connection via network manager, my computer completely crashes, going to a black screen with no input from keyboard or mouse. It forces me to reboot using the power switch. Everything works fine when I connect to an ethernet cable, so I am sure it's a problem with my wireless driver.
I already tried (successfully) reinstalling the ath9k driver via compat wireless as was the advice from other forums, but this had no effect. I'm currently running opensuse 11.4, and haven't had this problem until a few days ago
This problem seems a bit ridiculous for a task as simple as connecting to a wireless network, so I'm convinced that either there is some sort of relatively simple way of fixing it, or windows really is the only decent operating system out there..
i'm having problems connecting to the internet unless i manually enter the IP info.
automatic DHCP does not work. I'm on a dual boot machine vista/ubuntu 10.04 LTS connecting to the internet through a lynksys wireless g router and a cable modem.
I have Ubuntu-laptop with wireless card wlan0 and wired ethernet card eth0 and windows7-desktop with wired ethernet card.I want my desktop PC to connect to the internet via ubuntu wireless card. Meaning that, I'm connected to a wireless internet network in my ubuntu pc and I want to share this connection to the desktop.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI created a Live CD with Ubuntu 10.4 Desktop, in which everything seems to work except Firefox, or internet connections in general. I've tried several other Linux distros with the same results. The DSL modem is on and working (USB Westell Wirespeed duel connect modem), works with Windows XP (native OS on this computer) but not with this live cd.
Ive been inside the network manager, and have only one connection setup which is DSL and automatically connect. But when it looks for a connection, none is found (the tab on the upper right corner of the desktop with the exclamation mark).
The live cd connects at work, but it's through a server and connected to that via ethernet, so that's a completely different setup.
I've seen countless other instances of connectivity issues, and it all seems to involve hours of testing, command line editing, and other things that more often than not produce no results.
I made some tests with a router without security and my internet connexion worked without any problem. But if I activated the wep security (or wpa it is the same behaviour) suse 11.1 won't connect in any way.
I used knetwork manager and traditional ifup method, both failed to connect.
I saw, using iwconfig that in both cases (wpa or wep) I was associated with the AP but dhclient won't work in any way, I was always in the APIPA...
I checked if there weren't any access control (mac address filtering, ...) and all the settings in the router were off to give me full access. Including the firewall set to off. The DHCP feature was on in both cases.
I noticed that the firewall must be on in suse 11.1 otherwise I couldn't have any connections even if I disabled wep or wpa...
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 Live CD and I can't connect to the internet. I click on System --> Preferences --> Network connections and under the tab DSL I click Add. After i fill the information I click to connect to the new connection and after a while it shows me a baloon which says "Wired network: Disconnected - you are now offline".
View 1 Replies View RelatedA few months back my previous computer went west and I've only just got a replacement, and having had enough of Windoze to last me a lifetime, I decided on Linux and and selected Ubuntu, keeping the Internet account current in the interim with a couple of topups done from Internet cafes. Problem. I'm on mobile broadband, Virgin to be exact. The machine recognizes the modem; the Virgin icon is plainly visible on the desktop, but that's as far as it goes, I simply can't connect, though I think the machine is trying to.I set up a mobile broadband connection and I've edited it every whichaway, but to no avail. It's only Basic though, I haven't tried Advanced. Should I try Advanced, and while I'm at it, what else could causing my problems?

For Chrome I have been using putty and a plugin called switchy to use internet through another computer and may have messed firefox up when trying to install a similar plugin. I uninstalled all plugins and still had the problem. I then tried:
sudo apt-get remove --purge firefox
and then re downloaded the new firefox 4.
I have a problem which is connecting automatically to my spwireless. On my windows, my schools provide me the disc which contains several .cer files and a automated batch files to copy the .cer files to the root folders. I can choose to use the other network but in using that, i have to manually connect compared to using the spwireless. Anyway, my problem is that, how do i add the .cer files and to where so when i connect to the network it will look there for the cert. Because when i manually connect, only one cer can be chosen.

I recently installed XBMC and Boxee on my Linux laptop, but neither of them are connecting to the internet. Since I'd like to try XBMC first, I'll talk about that here. When I run the program, I do not have a Live TV icon or link on the side. I can see my Music, Programs, Settings, Pictures, Video and Weather links on the sidebar, but my Weather page is blank as in I do not see any weather forecasts or whatever else ought to be on that page. I thought that maybe since I was running XBMC as a user there might be some permissions issues, so I ran "sudo xbmc" and received an error message "Do_Wait: DRMWaitBlank returned -1, IRQs Don't Seem to be working correctly. Try adjusting the vBlank_mode configuration parameter." No idea what that means. I've tried connecting both via Ethernet and my WiFi.

But otherwise, Update Manager, Google Chromium are all connecting smoothly. Which implies that there is nothing wrong with my internet connection. So now that this is a Mozilla FireFox problem.
