I'm having a problem connecting to the Internet on my gNewSense installation. My Internet works fine through Ubuntu and Windows, but not through gNewSense, is there anyway of fixing this? Also, while searching around I found that somebody said I ought to type "dmesg" and copy the results.

I just installed gewsense on my dell studio xps. I have a dual boot with windows vista. Problem is I cant get the internet to work via lan or wireless. I have read it could be incompatibility with my hardware but wanted to know what can I do to troubleshoot and resolve.
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and its great. However when I connect to the internet at home it shows that the connection has been established but I still cant connect to the internet. My flatmates are all able to connect. However, I am able to connect from work both wirelessly and through an ethernet cable.
Is there any way to repair gnewsense? It was working fine but the desktop has suddenly started showing problems. I am not able to use the desktop, instead i am stuck to use only the terminal
I created a Live CD with Ubuntu 10.4 Desktop, in which everything seems to work except Firefox, or internet connections in general. I've tried several other Linux distros with the same results. The DSL modem is on and working (USB Westell Wirespeed duel connect modem), works with Windows XP (native OS on this computer) but not with this live cd.
Ive been inside the network manager, and have only one connection setup which is DSL and automatically connect. But when it looks for a connection, none is found (the tab on the upper right corner of the desktop with the exclamation mark).
The live cd connects at work, but it's through a server and connected to that via ethernet, so that's a completely different setup.
I've seen countless other instances of connectivity issues, and it all seems to involve hours of testing, command line editing, and other things that more often than not produce no results.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 Live CD and I can't connect to the internet. I click on System --> Preferences --> Network connections and under the tab DSL I click Add. After i fill the information I click to connect to the new connection and after a while it shows me a baloon which says "Wired network: Disconnected - you are now offline".
A few months back my previous computer went west and I've only just got a replacement, and having had enough of Windoze to last me a lifetime, I decided on Linux and and selected Ubuntu, keeping the Internet account current in the interim with a couple of topups done from Internet cafes. Problem. I'm on mobile broadband, Virgin to be exact. The machine recognizes the modem; the Virgin icon is plainly visible on the desktop, but that's as far as it goes, I simply can't connect, though I think the machine is trying to.I set up a mobile broadband connection and I've edited it every whichaway, but to no avail. It's only Basic though, I haven't tried Advanced. Should I try Advanced, and while I'm at it, what else could causing my problems?
connecting 10.04 to the internet via dongle, the dongle in question is orange and I think is pay as you go. The computer a brand new laptop loads the 10.04 disc and the mobile connection is there but I do not know how to put it together.
I have chrome an it works fine, but firefox wont load any pages, just white and blank. For Chrome I have been using putty and a plugin called switchy to use internet through another computer and may have messed firefox up when trying to install a similar plugin. I uninstalled all plugins and still had the problem. I then tried: sudo apt-get remove --purge firefox and then re downloaded the new firefox 4.
I have just installed Ubuntu and I'm having trouble connecting to the Internet. I have a wireless USB adapter that worked while I was using Vista, but now it doesn't.
I have a problem which is connecting automatically to my spwireless. On my windows, my schools provide me the disc which contains several .cer files and a automated batch files to copy the .cer files to the root folders. I can choose to use the other network but in using that, i have to manually connect compared to using the spwireless. Anyway, my problem is that, how do i add the .cer files and to where so when i connect to the network it will look there for the cert. Because when i manually connect, only one cer can be chosen.
I have a problem connecting to the internet using Ubuntu 9.10 . But the same works fine in Ubuntu 9.04.. First I thought it was my hardware problem and asked my friend(also was using ubuntu 9.04) to try ubuntu 9.10 but he too failed to connect....
I have an wired ADSL Modem given by my Service Provider. When I switch on my modem the router gets connected but it cannot connect me to internet...
I recently installed XBMC and Boxee on my Linux laptop, but neither of them are connecting to the internet. Since I'd like to try XBMC first, I'll talk about that here. When I run the program, I do not have a Live TV icon or link on the side. I can see my Music, Programs, Settings, Pictures, Video and Weather links on the sidebar, but my Weather page is blank as in I do not see any weather forecasts or whatever else ought to be on that page. I thought that maybe since I was running XBMC as a user there might be some permissions issues, so I ran "sudo xbmc" and received an error message "Do_Wait: DRMWaitBlank returned -1, IRQs Don't Seem to be working correctly. Try adjusting the vBlank_mode configuration parameter." No idea what that means. I've tried connecting both via Ethernet and my WiFi.
I installed Ubuntu 10.04. Prior to this I had been using Ubuntu 9.10. In 10.04 I am just unable to connect to the net using Mozilla FireFox. But otherwise, Update Manager, Google Chromium are all connecting smoothly. Which implies that there is nothing wrong with my internet connection. So now that this is a Mozilla FireFox problem.
Whenever i used to setup a new connection in Windows it would just ask me User name and password here i need to fill up something called as "Gateway" !? The connection won't be accepted unless i fill up something in there... So, what do i put in there? I'm on a LAN of 3 computers connected with a router. The router takes one wire as input from the modem(cable).
i have a Levano S10e intel atom preccessor and the net-book is not connecting wirelessly to the network. i have tried at two locations and even plugged in a exterlal wifi adapter. it wouldnt connect then either, the only way to get connected is to use a cat5 cable. here is the ifconfig output with no cat5 inserted and it not connecting to the internet.:
I need to reinstall my GUI but all I can access currently is a terminal, I have the encryption key and SSID but have found all the how to's I've read really confusing since following certain steps on them give me error messages, I'm connecting wirelessly to wlan0.
I was trying to configure wireless network on my ubuntu machine but could not do it. I am possibly stuck as I don't know much about configuring things on linux platforms.
I would like to connect a PC (it has no white IP) through Internet. It's possible to create tunnel with SSH, but I need more easy way. May be there is some service exists (like TeamViewer), so people can just run simple command on that PC?
I have an AWL6075 Golden N Wireless Mini USB Adapter from Airlink, and I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. (Kernel 2.6.31-20-generic) I've learned that in order to get this to work, I needed to download this firmware update: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/373876...8192sfw.bin.gz and copy it into /lib/firmware.I have also needed to download and install the drivers at http://www.filestube.com/f76673d157e2ab6203ea/go.htmlI've even Edited my connection to make it available to all users. This is great, and it gets my internet running. Unfortunately, I seem to have to make the module, and insmod the module 8712u.ko everytime I boot up. I know I had it set in 9.04 to be able to do this on boot up, but in 9.04 I didn't have to re-make it everytime.
I had installed Ubuntu 10.04 yesterday. When I see the network tab, it shows it is connected to the web via eth0. I could download all the packages for updates. But when I try to connect to internet via Firefox, or by evolution or other software,I am unable to connect. The configuration of the ethernet card is proper as I checked that via terminal window. It is a peculiar problem, where I can download update pakages but unable to connect via browser or email client.when I ping to ubuntu.com is shows it is healthy and successful.I have a Acer dual core laptop, and connect to internet via wired lan .
I have an iBook G4 running Debian Lenny. I was wondering, is there anyway to connect to the internet while on a Windows network at school over Ethernet using smbclient? I have both GNOME 2.22 and LXDE .5 on the machine.
I setup a network bridge on pc A, with windows 7 installed on it, using windows default bridging tool. I connected computer B to computer A and Im trying to connect to the internet through the network bridge on computer A. Computer B (client) has two OS's installed, win XP and linux(tried with different distributions, didnt work). On windows XP everything is working, when i try to ping the router (after computer A) it also responds. On linux system nothing is working, and im not quite sure why.
I set up linux to receive IP adress from DHCP, which is router in this case (behind computer A), same way windows XP was configured. I decided to ask here, because I couldn't find anything on the net. My guess is windows-made bridge supports only windows-OS's but that would be kind of strange (its just a software bridge).
just recently I made the move back to Ubuntu from Windows. Upon re-installing I noticed a problem with me connecting to the internet. Previously on Windows I had updated my Ethernet Adapter driver, upon installing I would have to disable and re-enable the device to let my computer have access to the internet. My problem here is how would I go about fixing this on Ubuntu so I can have internet access on Ubuntu
All of a sudden, none of the applications are able to connect to the internet, except the web browser. I use Google Chrome and sometimes Mozilla firefox.
There is a network proxy and I did apply the network proxy setting system wide.
Applications like Dropbox, Messenger etc stopped connecting to internet which were working very well until yesterday.
