OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless - Connecting To Router Using Wep Key

Feb 15, 2010

I made some tests with a router without security and my internet connexion worked without any problem. But if I activated the wep security (or wpa it is the same behaviour) suse 11.1 won't connect in any way.

I used knetwork manager and traditional ifup method, both failed to connect.

I saw, using iwconfig that in both cases (wpa or wep) I was associated with the AP but dhclient won't work in any way, I was always in the APIPA...

I checked if there weren't any access control (mac address filtering, ...) and all the settings in the router were off to give me full access. Including the firewall set to off. The DHCP feature was on in both cases.

I noticed that the firewall must be on in suse 11.1 otherwise I couldn't have any connections even if I disabled wep or wpa...

Fedora Networking :: Connecting To Wireless Router ?

May 5, 2010

When fedora initially starts up, the network manager shows all the available wireless connections available to me. However, when I select my wireless connection, it will go through the loading process where it shows the two green dots and the circular moving blue streak, then it prompts me to put in the wpa password.

This is where the trouble starts...when i input my wpa password, it will proceed to attempt to connect to my network but it never succeeds in doing so--it will keep on asking me to input my wpa password. when i finally get sick of doing it over and over again, i just hit cancel instead of retrying to connect.

After i stop trying to connect, the network manager no longer shows all the available wireless networks--the list is completely empty, and i can find no way to get the list to show up again, with the exception of restarting my computer.

I am able to connect to the internet with a wired ethernet, but id like my wireless to work.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Router Connecting ?

Jun 21, 2010

I have a computer running Ubuntu, and a MacBook Pro. I need to buy a decently cheap wireless router that I can hook up to my Ubuntu so that it will send wifi signals and I can use the wifi to go online with my MacBook Pro. I was about to get one today, but remembered how Ubuntu is picky about working with things like that. I'm only going to be using it to get signals around the house which isn't that big at all.

So what would be the cheapest and decently efficient wireless routers that I can use which Ubuntu will cooperate with?

Has been working fine. Today it is not. I have done nothing to it. It just keeps saying "Looking up *********" and "Cannot connect to server".

I hard wired the pc to the modem and it works fine. Hard wired the pc to the router it works fine. Running wireless, both of my computers are not connecting.

If I remember, one of the lights on the router should be lit solid, just as it is on the modem. However, all lights are blinking. The only solid light is "power".

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect After Connecting To A Wireless Router

Ubuntu 10.10 connects to a DSL modem without any problems - I mean I just plugged it in and it worked - GREAT I bought a wireless router so I could connect my netbook and now my Ubuntu machine which is simply using a cable from the wireless router now DOES NOT connect. I tried a windows machine on the wired connection from the wireless router and it connects without a problem. OF course if I remove the wireless router from the chain, i.e. simply connect directly to the modem it works straight away.

Ubuntu Networking :: EDUP Wireless Adapter Not Connecting To Router?

Soon after 9.10 was released I updated my laptop and was able to use the adapter to connect to the Net.Recently, I also updated the desktop but also made it exclusively a Linux machine. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get the wireless adapter to work again on the desktop. The OS recognizes the device as wlan0, and lsusb shows:Bus 003 Device 005: 0cde:0008 Z-Com Sitecom Wireless Network Adapter 100G+ WL -125The network manager recognises the availability of the wireless network and attempts to connect. After trying for a while it comes up with a dialog box "Wireless Network Authentication Required" and in response I enter the WPA password but with no success. The behaviour would indicate that I am entering the wrong password but I am not.I have checked it several times and compared with the password that works with the laptop.

Ubuntu Networking :: Use One Wireless Router To Connect/detect To Another Wireless Router?

Is this what Ad-Hoc is? Either way, can this be done and if so how? I use a WRT54Gx2 Lynksys router and have a TRENDNET TEW-432BRP wireless router and also a spare D-link DI-514. I use ubuntu 10.04, and also wanted to know if I connected one of the router to his on the LAn port could he connect msaybe through an Ad-Hoc on my local computer here? He uses XP on his. Networking :: Cannot Ping Wireless Router Or Access Router Settings - Wireless ?

Jun 9, 2010

I moved my server and network equipment, and now the wireless works but I cannot get my server online. I host a website, so this is kind of urgent.

I have a wireless router and can access the internet fine on my laptop. My server is wired & connected to the router. It sets up the networking properly.. ifconfig has an ip address, the default gateway is present. But I cannot ping google, or even the router. It says destination host unreachable.

So I go back to the laptop to check the router settings.. sometimes it likes to assign the server the wrong internal ip. But, I can't access the router settings either! The page (192.168.1.1) times out. Same with trying to ping the router. How can the laptop be online if it can't reach the router?

Oddly, ifconfig on my laptop reports an ip address starting with 99.233. It's always given me an internal address starting with 192.168. What's going on here? Is the router not allocating an internal ip? I use wicd to connect, if it's relevant.

We have a windows laptop that can only get a "local connection". Now it does sound like the router is forwarding directly to my laptop, instead of allocating internal ips.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Not Connecting On 11.3

Jan 24, 2011

I am facing issues in connecting to wifi after upgrading to 11.3 from 11.2. My laptop has Intel 5100 wireless. I had searched through the forum and did find some workarounds(like updating options.conf, removing /etc/NetworkManager directory, using ifup instead of network manager) but all those are not working for me. It will disconnect within a few mins after restaring network service. Has anyone heard about any fix from Intel guys for this and if yes then where can I get that? I had faced hell lot of difficulties while upgrading coz of many unresolved dependencies and don't want to go back to 11.2

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Connecting To AP Via Wireless - 11.3

Jan 30, 2011

I've tried really hard to avoid posting on here, but nothing that I've tried has worked. I just installed openSUSE 11.3 GNOME Desktop. It's my first time using openSUSE, but I do have a little bit of Linux experience. I have the following wireless network card:

0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01) c:00.0 0280: 14e4:4315 (rev 01)

I switched control of network setup to YaST (Traditional Method with ifup). It installed the firmware automatically for me. I set up connection configurations as follows:

- Dynamic Address: DHCP
- Operating Mode: Managed
- Network Name: Hetts (I was able to scan and it found my ESSID)
- Authentication Mode: No Encryption (I was using WPA2 and having trouble so for now I've switched my router to use no encryption just to try and get something working)

After setting this up and clicking OK, it should automatically configure and connect, right? I've tried a bunch of things including rebooting and deleting the wireless card configuration and starting over by reinstalling the firmware. I've also tried setting up the connection using NetworkManager and still have the same problem. I have my laptop setup to dual boot, and when I boot in Windows, wireless works perfectly fine, so there is nothing wrong with my hardware or router. Here are some of the outputs I'm getting:

[Code]...

I tried adding the IP address manually too using "ip addr add ...", but still no connection. I can't even ping the access point at 192.168.1.1. Sorry for such a long post, but it seemed to be common for people to not post enough information, so I put as much as I could think of.

Ubuntu Networking :: Tenda W322P Wireless Card Crashing Wireless Router On Connect

Jun 30, 2011

I installed a Tenda W322P wireless card in my dual-boot PC running both Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.04. The card worked straight out of the box on XP, but does not function correctly under Ubuntu. My apologies for any missing/irrelevant information, I am having to post this from the Windows boot so the Ubuntu settings are not directly available at the same time as internet access.I followed the process detailed here htURL...to install and configure the driver (I believe from reading other sites that this card is the Ralink RT3062 chipset), blacklisted the original RT2860 driver that was in use (couldn't even get the card to scan for wireless networks with the default driver) and restarted the interface.

Since then, sudo iwlist scan can find my wireless router but when I attempt to connect to it, it seems to enter a loop of requesting the WEP key then pausing for a while before re-requesting the key. I know I have the key value correct because it is copied and pasted from the same text file I used to copy and paste into the passkey field on the Windows boot. Attempting to connect to the router using Ubuntu also has the rather unfortunate side-effect of crashing the wireless router, killing off all other device connections until the router has been reset.
