after about 3 12 hour days of messing with it, i'm nearly positive there is no way the onboard broadcom wireless is going to work. (it's an hp dv9000 running ubuntu studio 10.4)can someone recommend a wireless express card that will work out the box with no troubles?
View 2 RepliesI've a working internal Intel wifi card but it does not have the greatest of ranges so I bought a Edimax EW-7711UAn.
On the box is says Linux compatible. All knowing Google states that it works out of the box with Ubuntu 10.04.
NetworkManager lists the card at a Ralink 8011.n WLAN (disconnected).
There are no networks listed under this card in NetworkManager or wicd even if I disable the internal wifi using the nm-system-settings.conf.

Recently I installed ubuntu in my LG P1 express dual laptop, and got it working with the sound, webcam, and LAN. It took me a while, but I have learned a lot. The thing is, I cannot manage to set up wireless networking working. For what I read and discovered, it has to do with an internal RF switch that deactivates the wifi card. On windows, one may switch it on or off with fn+F6. However, that is not working on linux. How to access and change this switch with a command or something?

desktop has been running Ubuntu 10.10 just fine since December. Today, the connections menu shows nothing but "Wireless Networks: disconnected." My laptop is inches away and has a full connection.I'm not sure what diagnostic tools I have at my disposal. The one thing I've been able to do is lspci. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavillion Elite HPE computer I just got for a server. It has an internal gigabyte on the mother board and I put in one pci express trendnet teg-ectx eternet card in before installing. It is using the realtek 8169 chip. I had the local network on this card and the pubic static ip on the built in ethernet port eth0. After the intstall of debian 5.07 32 bit I couldn't get the eth0 pubic access to work. I can't get into the server with sftp or ssh and openssh has been installed and I can get into it locally on the local network.
I then installed a second ethernet card the same as the local network card. Now the pubic is on the which is eth1 and the local is eth2. I can ping out to [URL] but I can't get into the server on the eth1 using ssh and I have a iptables firewall and I turned it off and I stll can't get in. I am thinking that the eth1 card I added after the install doesn't have the driver or something. nothing is hooked up to eth0 right now.

On the macbook pro 6,1 it gets issued IRQ 19 and loads sata_sil24 and ata_piix correctly, however on the 5,1 and 5,2 macbook pro it only loads sata_sil24 and gets IRQ 24. Is there anyway to specify the IRQ assigned to the device via the kernel (is it an IRQ conflict or device not working on IRQ24)? MacBook Pro uses an EFI so not traditional bios where I can set irqs. View 2 Replies View RelatedJust installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.
I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.
I have two laptops and a desktop. At any given moment I would like the desktop to be able to download a file over WAN at maximum speed while one laptop does the same over wireless and the other laptop shares files either wired through a gigabit switch or wireless over wireless G or N. Is this too much to ask from a router/switch/wireless AP combo unit with a single processor? I'm thinking it's at least a lot. What if I ran the modem into the WAN connection of a good router. Then connected a separate wireless G/N access point and gigabit switch to the LAN connections of the router? That seems to me like it would relieve some of the bottle necks I would encounter with the scenario described above AND allow me to upgrade each unit as needed.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy HP Pavilion dm4 notebook has the Broadcom bcm4313 and worked with the proprietary Broadcom driver provided with Ubuntu 10.04 but did not work with the corresponding driver provided with Ubuntu 10.10. The solution that worked for me (for a while) was to install "broadcom-sta-common" and its dependencies using Synaptic. After enabling the proprietary driver (System > Administration > Additional Drivers) and rebooting, wireless worked. I even shared this on this post. chargersfan420 get his Broadcom card functional again.
What changed to break it? Well, wireless had worked for several days, so I felt that I had solved the wireless problem. Now it was time to find a solution to unlock my BIOS settings. I successfully used PCCMOSCleaner to clear the password. After that, no more wireless. (Note to dm4 users: Apparently HP puts a password on the BIOS settings and makes it available only if you boot into the factory-installed Windows 7 and retrieve it. Of course I never booted into Windows 7 before upgrading the machine to Linux, deleting both the Windows partition and HP's hidden recovery partition.)
I uninstalled all the Broadcom stuff and reinstalled it all. Now I appear to have wl working, and b43 and ssb blacklisted, but network manager is not seeing any wireless connections available.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have lenovo thinkpad, T61 with Intel 4965AGN wireless card. It is a N card, it works under N mode in windwos, but not in Ubuntu (10.10). I installed ndiswrapper and got the windows xp drivers for this card. the issue is that i got an error when installing the drivers and since then I cannot use wireless.
The error i got is: Code: Module could not be loaded. Error was: FATAL: Could not read '/lib/modules/2.6.35-24-generic/kernel/ubuntu/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper.ko': No such file or director I unistalled the driver, but now under network connections no wireless connections appear, nothing. I cannot use wirless anymore.

Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. She won't change it the encryption type.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed a Tenda W322P wireless card in my dual-boot PC running both Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.04. The card worked straight out of the box on XP, but does not function correctly under Ubuntu. My apologies for any missing/irrelevant information, I am having to post this from the Windows boot so the Ubuntu settings are not directly available at the same time as internet access.I followed the process detailed here htURL...to install and configure the driver (I believe from reading other sites that this card is the Ralink RT3062 chipset), blacklisted the original RT2860 driver that was in use (couldn't even get the card to scan for wireless networks with the default driver) and restarted the interface.
Since then, sudo iwlist scan can find my wireless router but when I attempt to connect to it, it seems to enter a loop of requesting the WEP key then pausing for a while before re-requesting the key. I know I have the key value correct because it is copied and pasted from the same text file I used to copy and paste into the passkey field on the Windows boot. Attempting to connect to the router using Ubuntu also has the rather unfortunate side-effect of crashing the wireless router, killing off all other device connections until the router has been reset.
have a dell Inspiron 1501 with ubuntu 10.0.4 I want to rename my wireless card from eth1 to wlan0 as I use conkyrc and it will not read my wireless strength or my ssid cuz it thinks it's a ethernet card and not wireless card. I know this for a fact because peppermint os my wireless card was wlan0 and it worked just fine.

I am currently running all my applications off a HD as I was unable to install the grub bootloader on my ocz pci express card (grub won't install on the pci express card as it is a raid0 array). I would like to use the HD for backup only and run everything off the ocz card - with the exception of booting (which is unfortunate but I didn't manage to make the pci express card boot). How is it possible to tell suse during the installation to create the /boot on the HD and the rest on the pci express card and also to allocate the remainder of the HD as empty storage area??

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to natty last night, and everything is working fine except for the network manager. I can enable and configure the wireless card via bash, but the network manager widget will not manage the wireless card.
When I first boot up, the "Enable wireless" check box is greyed out. After I enable the card via the terminal, the "Enable wireless" check box becomes ungreyed, but every time I click it, it instantly unchecks itself. I feel like Currly from the Three Stoogies. Check, uncheck, Check, uncheck.. "Slaps face repeatedly."

How can I express the range of ip addresses from 172.22.22.200 - 172.22.22.230 ?
I was trying to make a rule for iptables that only did nat on that specific range of ips, and when i tried used the "-s" flag followed by 172.22.22.200/11 it always changes to 172.0.0.0/11 in the actual rule that is created and displayed by iptables -t nat -L.
I already have many hosts defined on my network, and rather than going through each one and changing its ipaddress to 172.0.0.#, I was hoping to learn a way to represent them in the iptables rule.
