Ubuntu :: Wine Crashed Now Can't Type In Txt Fields And Lost Max, Min, And X From All Windows

Using wine, re-installed EVE (hadn't played for awhile), things went fine, ran eve, things were fine... then like an idiot in the middle of the opening graphic sequence I tried to exit out... big mistake... system hung up and I had to do a hard restart. Upon restart the following has happened:
1. I currently cannot type into SOME text fields. I can type into Firefox, and Open office, but not into KDE wallet, Kubuntu search fields, or the terminal (big problem). If i go out of KDE and straight command line I can run terminal commands. I can also cut and paste into all text fields including the ones I cannot type into.
2. I've lost all X, Minimize, and Maximize from ALL windows, and cannot move windows. I can resize some windows, like firefox however. Windows are not layering properly, if any window is open the "start" button menu will be blocked out, and the opened windows will not layer behind it (makes me have to resize windows to shut down).
3. Tried to go back to a prior good configuration to no avail. The 3 most recent configs have the same errors now, and the configs prior to that are refusing to initialize KDE... screen will flicker and then go strait to command lines.
notes: I have tried changing graphics drivers to no avail, and have redone the keyboard selection to no avail. Also uninstalled wine, but that didn't do anything. basically, I can work within the errors and make stuff run, but it's a huge PITA. running Kubuntu 10.10*was running wine 1.3.5
First, I'm sorry if some one has already posted this but I can't find it. I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my laptop and I have a dual boot between that and Vista. I cannot use Ubuntu for more than an hour or two before it won't let me type in text fields. When this happens, the menues (Applications, System, ect.) stop working also.
I can continue to browse the internet and play music when this happens. The problem can be recreated consistently by using OpenOffice Word Processor. I can not type more than a sentence in OpenOffice before this problem occurs. The only way to fix it is to hold the power button to shutdown.
i was install wine with the soft ware center when my computer crashed, now i cant uninstall it or cointinue the installation or unistall, when i do try to unistall i press the unistall icon nothing happens. when i go into the software center to try and reinstall it says waiting for other software managers to quit,
I'm running Karmic 64-bit and Kate 3.3.90.I have been splitting up a very large (16,000 lines) text file by copy/pasting bits of it into smaller files. I had about 40 of these smaller files loaded into a session along with the large file. About 20 were from a previous day of editing and about 20 had been added (and saved) today.
I tried to save the file I currently had open and Kate crashed. I didn't think it was that big a deal until I reopened Kate and all of the files I had added today were gone!!I've looked in the folder and even the backup files that should have been there for files I'd saved more than once are not there.
I have a couple of MP3s that have duplicate fields in their ID3 tags. Let me show you what I mean: This is causing problems with some media players. Is there a tool that can automatically fix these MP3s in batch? I'd prefer a free Windows or Linux program. I'm not afraid to work on the command line if necessary.
How can I uninstall / purge wine and any wine installed windows programs?I've tried deleting .wine (hidden folder)but in /usr/bin/ there are a number of wine related files.And wine sub menu still appears in Applications menu
I don't know if it's just my system, but after applying the latest Wine update, the mouse cursor in Wine windows is now purple/magenta/pink, whatever. Not a big problem, just annoying. I've looked through the various config files in ~home and /usr/share/wine, and can't find any parameter that might even remotely address this.
I have just done a fresh install of OpenSuse 11.3 I am using KDE4.When I move my mouse and click on a text field, I start typing and the first few keypresses are ignored. Or if I stop typing and pause for a bit without moving the mouse or doing anything, then when I press the next key it is ignored again.If I go to System settings -> accessibility, neither slow keys, bounce keys or sticky keys are ticked.The effect of this is that if I momentarily pause for thought in the middle of writing then sometimes half a word can go missing. Unfortunately this makes the desktop extremely difficult to use as I am always having to check that all my key presses have been accepted.
after i made the change to my shell type, that from SH to TCH, and back again, i lost my coloring for my file system, if you know what i mean, folders always come in blue, and devices in yellow hope you understand? now everything i do can't seem to differentiated between files colors anymore.
I'm having a problem updating or even running the software center. Each time I open either of them, I get an error stating "'E:Type 'ntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-natty.list'" and the update manager or software center closes. This has just been happening a few days ago and I would like a fix for it. I'm using 11.04 beta 1 and my WINE version is the latest development release. Anyone know how to fix this error? I tried unchecking my WINE PPAs in sources but that don't seem to do any good.
i have compiz-fusion install on my ubuntu and it has crashed. i was setting the transparency for the title bars of windows (trying to). suddenly compiz just crashed and now everything is transparent! i can only see docky and the menu bar on top. all windows and menus are 100% transparent. i am have a dual-boot with windows and am using it now. i also have ext2 reader installed, so i can access my files on ubuntu.
the other day my Dell laptop completely crashed, rebooted, got a DST error, tried to run a dskchk off the Windows Boot CD, failed due to "unrecoverable files". Then booted off Ubuntu to salvage my stuff, which seems to work fine, and I can even see my HD - "120 Gb Drive" or whatever it says. When I open it, I see 2 folders: windows, Epson, and 2 random files.
Here's the thing. It says 108/120 gigs are taken, which is just how I left my HD with all my stuff on it that I am trying to recover. Yet my personal and important documents (pictures, videos, documents and even music) are NOWHERE to be found and searches bring up nothing. yet it says the disk space is taken...I am at a total loss.
My HP Netbook crashed. The Windows XP system files corrupted and Windows absolutely will not run. I planned on using Ubuntu to recover it, and then install Ubuntu permanently to save it in the future. Before you ask, every other utility has failed on me. UBCD included, which did nothing but provide me with errors upon errors just trying to run it.
The netbook has no CD drive.The only internet around is a wireless signal... my netbook has a broadcom wireless card that is never recognized. I'm using someone elses working laptop to connect online and get things I need, make boot devices, research for help, etc.This laptop has barely any hard drive space. Currently it has 1 gb remaining for doing anything.I have three flash memory devices:2 gb SD card. My netbook refuses to recognize it as a boot device.2 gb flash stick (that's actually an mp3 player). My netbook refuses to recognize it as a boot device.512 mb flash stick. This DOES work as a boot device.
So far my 512 mb flash stick has run Damn Small Linux and Ubuntu Minimal on my netbook. Of course, both are useless because the netbook cannot access internet, nor does either OS recognize my wireless card. This flash stick is, obviously, too small for a regular Ubuntu installation or any other Linux distribution that can help (as far as I know).
So, in order for this to work, I have to be able to do one of the following:
Install Ubuntu from a different OS, like Damn Small Linux or something small enough to boot on my 512 mb stick. Ubuntu can be put on one of the other, larger devices, maybe to be accessed for installation. No idea how to do this, let alone safely.
Install Ubuntu Minimal OFFLINE. This question was asked multiple times on these forums and none were answered. Is there a way to run minimal, and use offline sources for the install?
Get the normal Ubuntu installer under 500 mb. Its overwhelmingly frustrating that I'm just barely unable to do this. I've read of Ubuntu Customization Kit, which ended up being lots of useless files and reams of gobbldegook. I've heard Ubuntu is packed with additional, nonrequisite software which makes it so large. Why can't there be a halfway version between normal and minimal?? Not everyone has internet and not everyone has a CD drive or large USB stick! Is there a way this can be accomplished? Does this version exist?
I have limited time and resources. Before you ask, no, I cannot afford a larger USB stick. I'm pinching pennies right now and there's nowhere near here that sells them anyway.
i can only boot to MSDOs with floppy msdos bootup on A:. I want to install ubuntu 10.10 and completely erase HDD but the ubuntu disc won't bootup even when bios is set for cd only. This is older HP pavillion that I have retired but HDD scans out good so I thought i would run Ubuntu only and maybe put MS out of business but not having any luck with install. When booting from HDD error is system 32hal dll is missing or corrupt but HDD C: is 0 anyway. I just want to install so I can play with Ubuntu.
My windows xp partition crashed for an unknown reason the other day and i was wondering if i could fix it from my mint debian partition. my windows partition starts to boot but then just hits a black screen and freezes and when i go to run it in any safe mode it just lists a bunch of drivers and then stops there.
I have been using truecrypt to mount a partition on my computer for a few months now. Yesterday I tried to access it and it failed, with the following error:" mount: you must specify the filesystem type "
When creating the partition, the filesystem type was set to ext2. Apart from yesterday, I have not accessed this partition for a number of days now, and have done nothing to the operating in system in the ways of changing settings and such for a good week.
I opened KPackageKit in my new Fedora system. I want to get wine. The description says "A Windows 16/32/64 bit emulator". But wine stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator.
I have a copy of "Riven" for Windows 95 still laying around, and I decided to see if I could run it in WINE just for the hell of it. I got the following error when I tried to run the "Setup.exe" file (or any other executable on the CD-ROM, for that matter) using WINE:

I just installed wine on my netbook. I have tried every single poker websites software and none works. I think I must be doing something wrong and that I don't know how to use wine. How do you use windows software on wine. I am using the netbook version of linux and wine. What I did was cut and paste the executable windows file into the wine windows c: drive and tried to execute it from with within the wine windows c: drive. It comes up with a error
I had installed ubuntu 11.04 on my system along with windows vista. After a few days, i decided to remove ubuntu so i just logged into windows and formatted the ubuntu partition using the windows partitioner, then extended my main c: drive to span the whole disk so that i was left with a single partition with only windows vista on it.Later when trying to restart my system couldn't log back into windows.I kept getting a prompt sayinggrub rescue>After googling around a bit i shrinked and created another partition the disk again and installed ubuntu on it again.still. =/GRUB doesn't show any windows entry.I noticed something strange though that when i tried viewing my partitions using parted i didnt see any filesystem type listed besides my windows partition (/dev/sda3). I doubt that is why GRUB does not show any windows entry.Also i manually tried to boot into windows from the grub prompt using commands...root(hd0,3)chainloader +1bootbut it says 'invalid signature'Did i somehow corrupted my windows partition during resizing and installing/un-installing? Suddenly, my windows have no borders, and I have little control of them -- no moving, minimizing, or maximizing. I can't access these functions because there is no bar at the top, but they also don't respond to pressing the Alt key. My mouse cursor is the generic "X" that XWindows starts with.
The obvious solution is to change my settings, but I can't: when I try to open window manager settings, the disk spins a little but nothing shows up.
Another solution would be to try a different window manager, but this fails on a different problem that I have been having for some time. If I log out and then click on my user name to log back in, nothing happens -- I do not get a password box, just the same user selector that I started with. I use Xfce and I don't know how to switch.
when I tried to install wine I got "Missing Dependency: wine-gecko is needed by package wine"so I looked for wine-gecko and download it but also when I tried to install it I got "Missing Dependency: wine-gecko is needed by package wine"it seems that I am in loop each package need the other what to do please?
I do have a dual boot system vista and ubuntu but thought it would be nice if I didn't have to switch back and forth for some things. Since I all ready have windows installed with all the required files, directory, and registry is their any way ubuntu could pick those up for running windows programs. Instead of emulating them in wine. In theory I could install my programs under windows and run them under ubuntu if ubuntu recognized my windows partition as c drive instead of OS.
I need to add some dll's to .wine/drive_c/windows/system(32) but I can't find the folder anywhere, I know it probably hidden and I have checked while showing hidden folders but I can't find it.
