This is the first time I have pixel errors when using my setup in linux, have resently installed the debian squeeze rlz, with rglrx drivers from the debian wiki how to.
Now I have pixelerrors in pictures and they are static for the pictures aka, the pixels are static in the picture even if I move a webpage for instance.
Any buggreport on this? Or how to fix it, its hard to make a screendump but I could take a picture of the screen with a cam if someone like to see it
In win7 or ubuntu there is no indications of this problem.
I want to add a web camera and microphone to my desktop 9.10, what seems to be the best combination for Linux? I don't necessarily mean the best but a good affordable model that works.

I thought it was just a normal stuck pixel the first day I saw it, but then I noticed if I move opera around the screen they stay with opera. It doesn't occur with any other programs, only opera. These pixels also show up when I take a screenshot. Is there a way to get rid of these pixels (or whatever they are)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know the pixel dimensions for the panels.I want to design a panel background image in gimp for the entire panel but I don't know how many pixels they are from left to right. I know (or I think) that they are 24 pixels from top to bottom but how many across?
I have designed images to use as panel backgrounds but they tile so it's like one consistent thing as I don't know the dimensions for the length of panels, only the 24 pixel height. I've attached a couple so try them out, they're pretty cool.
I have recently purchased a usb microscope from Maplins, and although it does work with ubuntu 10.4 (and linux mint 9) I cant for the life of me get the led lights to work, the lights are kind of needed when viewing things close up.
Usb microscope link
The output from running lsusb gives the following -
Code:
Like I said it works, tried it with cheese, and I can get close up to stuff, but because the led's don't work it's difficult to get a clear picture with out a torch.
I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my wife's old notebook, a Sony Vaio PCG-FX705, by wiping the HDD (i.e. no more Windows ). The problem is that there's some weird display error that reminds of a TFT with pixel errors, although that's no the cause. I got a screenshot of it here (made with a digicam), and here is a close-up of it.
One thing I've noticed is that this error starts at the mouse pointer's tip and goes right when the computer is booted. Also, when using Blank Screen as screensaver, the error disappears once the screen went blank until I press a key or move the mouse, at which point the error will re-appear at the mouse pointer's current location. The only way I found so far to temporarily fix this problem is to change display resolution. It doesn't matter which resolution I use, all that matters is that I change it.

I've gotten the system to a working state, and things seem ok, aside from this:

I've got a few applications (Skype, etc, etc) that are now squished into a single pixel in the notification area. I can right click on it and get the context menus from them, but that isn't exactly the greatest solution.
*I've had to switch over to the classic view, roll back my nvidia video drivers, and reinstall mozilla shredder/sunbird.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 and I am thinking of setting up a few X10 lights so that I can turn them on and off at certain times of day/night. I am not to concerned with turning stuff on and off via the web but that might be a nice option. I want to keep it as simple as possible. I have looked over the forums and web but I am not sure about how to start and keep it simple.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to do is as the subject says, I want to take a music video and then sync several light channels to the music video.
I would like dimming control of the lights as you would have with a DMX 512 system or even Midi. In which the light programming is done in a choreographed sequencing pattern, much like many Midi "piano roll" based editing software.
In a nutshell I would like to do what the Windows program "Vixen" Christmas lighting control program does, but within Linux AND for videos. Sadly Vixen doesn't support syncing to video's at this time...only audio. Another thing is that Vixen also doesn't work with Wine, so it is a no go in Linux.
I would hope that by now there is some kind of video program that does permit syncing to external output devices.
I've been an Ubuntu user for a couple of years. I have a Sony Vaio VPCCW-2S1E laptop, with an Nvidia GT330M graphics card. I had worked with Karmic, Lucid and Maverick on this laptop without any problems, until recently, when I had to re-install Maverick.
Now my laptop keeps freezing entirely (no response whatsoever), with two keyboard lights blinking. This happens randomly: sometimes I'm doing something, other times the laptop's completely idle. Sometimes the screen display turns off on freezing, other times not.
I burned ubuntu-10.10-desktop-i386.iso with no problem, the installation start and i can choose the language (italian), select "Install" and.... it dies!
No viedo signal, keyboard has no more lights... nothing works but the pc is still power on.
My CPU is an AMD SEMPRON 2200+, 1gb ram, 250gb hdd with an nvidia graphic card.
I am having a lot of trouble with my computer... tried to upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04 on my computer, but the update crashed and then the keyboards lights just kept blinking. So I thought okay, I will try A fresh install. So I plugged up my old dinosaur and made a new boot cd. When I try to boot it, it shows that it is loading. But then the screen will go crazy, it will be a bunch of mashed boxes with funy colors sort off.can not get any responce out of it. So I try the boot cd in my old computer and everything works great. My computer specsare(custom):Motherboard = msi 785gm-e51 / 760gm-e51Cpu = AMD Phenom 2 duel core, running around 3.7 GHzRam = 2 gigs of ddr3Video card = GT240 galaxy...Geforce 200 series...An old wimpy 80 gig hardrive..Any ideas, I really like Ubuntu and usally have no problem that I can not Google myself out of but this time I can not find what I need.

GRUB and the BIOS like it - no doubt, the keyboard itself is OK. But as soon as SUSE 11.1 takes control during boot, the lights of the keyboard are switched off, and the keyboard is deactivated. I even tried to re-install 11.1 from DVD with the USB keyboard plugged in alone - in vain. With the PS/2 keyboard I didn't ever had any such problems.
