I've set all the wallpapers I want to cycle, I've set the time to 15 sec checked the "Cycle" box but nothing happens. The background stays the same. Log in-out didn't work. I'm on Ubuntu Classic

But the problem is, this program stays infinitely in the background. Is there any method of implementation so that I can kill it? like after 10 seconds of trying?
I am trying to refrain from using TCPKeepAlive or sshd_config stuffs configurations. I was thinking of a fork() implementation where the parent sleeps for 10 seconds and then, if the child still haven responds to it, kill it.
I've recently installed 11.3 on my work laptop. I wanted to check out some wallpapers so went to "desktop activities" --> "get more wallpapers..." and installed a few. However, I can't see to find my newly installed wallpapers. It says they're installed, but they don't show up under wallpapers. Has anyone seen this before?
View 3 Replies View RelatedTitle pretty much says it. As you can see from my screenshot, my effects list is far shorter than it's supposed to be, a quarter the size of what I had on my hardy desktop. The main effects that are driving me insane not having are 3D windows, e.g. windows hover above the desktop cube in order of use, and water sloshing around in the cube as I rotate it. Are these now options under an effect? I couldn't find them anywhere. Running 32 bit lucid on a laptop with a good graphics card.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI started using Natty as soon as it came out. There were some minor things that did not work but I supposed they would be fixed in updates soon enough, and most were. However, there is one issue that still is not fixed. In compiz, there is a window management 'app' called Maximumize, which allows you to maximize windows in certain directions using shortkeys.
Since I started using Natty, this app doesn't work properly anymore. It will no longer maximize to the left, right or up, but the strange thing is down does work (sometimes). I've tried reinstalling compiz, disabling the app and enabling again, resetting the shortkeys, but still only down works, and the others don't. This is quite annoying since I like to use this feature alot. Resizing windows by hand is quite tedious. Has anyone else had this problem? I could not find anything about it so far.
I am running 9.10. If I have multiple windows open, and my cursor is moved off the main window (but the focus is unchanged - i.e. I did not click off the main window), the main window will become transparent. At first I thought this was a cool effect, now it just gets on my nerves. I have looked through CompizConfig Settings, I can not find the relevant effect to turn off.

I've read several tutorials and they all say to go to my CompizConfig Settings and go to the Utilities section, under which you will find Wallpaper. I went there and can not find it. I can't right click on my desktop either for some reason. Ran a quick search and I couldn't find anything in the forums.

I saw a compizconfig video on ....., I forgot what it was, but I saw that they were running a video full screen and switched desktops or work areas and when they went back the video was still full screen.
Right now if I do a video full screen and switch to another desktop and come back to the video one, it is back to the window size before full screened.
How can I accomplish for my video to remain full screen even if i switch desktops?

Also, in 11.04 there's a "feature" where if I drag the title bar of a window against the top of the screen, it expands sideways. How do I disable that? I'm guessing I do it in CCSM.

I was attempting to create a cube desktop via compizconfig-settings-manager everything crashed. I can bring up a terminal via ctrl alt F1 or get to the Internet by right clicking on screen and change desktop background get more backgrounds on line. Other than that I can not see nor get any icons or make changes.i have Ubuntu 11.04
View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 on a Toshiba Satellite, Intel graphics card, a few days ago, and had no trouble accessing the CompizConfig Settings Manager. I changed a number of settings, and everything seemed to be working just fine. But two days ago, I noticed that the compiz effects (rotating desktop cube, minimize effect etc.) were gone; and when I now try to access the Settings Manager, I see a "Starting CompizConfig..." appear in the panel and linger for about five seconds; then it's gone. No settings manager, no error message.
The day that happened, I had (to the best of my memory) not installed any updates. I had, however, removed a bunch of applications through the Software Center. I had also launched Ubuntu Tweak and changed a couple of settings. The only option it showed, and shows, under 'Compiz Settings' was then (and still is): "Prerequisite Conditions" : "Install Advanced Desktop Effects Settings Manager". The box was checked. I have since unchecked and re-checked it, thereby uninstalling and re-installing the settings manager. But that hasn't changed anything.

I just updated to 11.04, and noticed in the "Background" tab of the appearance app, that there was what looked like a default option to cycle a set of backgrounds. However, when I selected it, the only background that appeared was the first one in the series, and it never cycled.
1) Is cycling backgrounds possible?
2) If so, can I create my own series of them?
Just got my 11.04 and tried to use some settings in Compiz. I`ve made these steps: Install the CompizConfig Settings Manager (ccsm) application from the Software Center. If you need assistance with installing the application, consult the software installation help, or review the Ubuntu Software Center Manual.
After you have installed the program, click the power icon at the very right of the panel and select System Settings. In the Personal section, click CompizConfig Settings Manager. In the Desktop section of the CompizConfig Settings Manager, click Ubuntu Unity Plugin, and select the Experimental tab.
I`ve clicked on the left side there was something like "enable plugin" or sort of. And my launcher, and the pane on the top dissapeared! I got nothing. Just the screen. Nothing is workin. What the f>..?
I like everyone else posing in this forum am trying to reconcile with 11.04. Everytime I adjust a setting in the CompizConfig Settings Manager, the top unity bar wigs out and disappears, it is still clickable but its invisible. Is there any simple fix to this? I don't think it's my hardware because other people are getting this too. I really don't like restarting/logging off my computer everytime I make a compiz change.

'm pretty new to Linux in general, but I have Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. I saw online about a Galaxy Live Wallpaper (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/10/a...er-for-ubuntu/), but when I try to get it with the Terminal, it says 404 for a bunch of the stuff, so it won't install. From what I gather, it was only supported in 10.10, and not 11.04.My question is, are there any other live wallpapers that are compatible with Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal? I'm really digging this OS, I'd love to make it even better. The Galaxy one was just incredible, I reeeeally wish it worked.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently been unable to boot into windows xp, which is on a drive separate from my linux installation. When I select the windows installation, the computer starts back at the bios screen and returns to grub endlessly. I am running an updated 9.10. The linux will boot fine; however the most recent kernel does not show up on the list of available options, which may indicate something. I have searched the forum and found nothing that helps. There are plenty of posts asking if you have stopped using windows altogether and other non tech related posts though.

I have Unbuntu 10.4 installed on a netbook. It is the only OS installed so no GRUB menu.
It hibernated last night, and now when I try to boot it hits the initial few steps in the boot process and then reboots.
Any thoughts on how to fix this problem. I have tried to access a GRUB menu w/ the ESC key but no dice.
i updated the compiz fusion plugins and decided to try some out, and when i tried the reflected windows, it logged me out and i had to log back in. but now as long as it's active, i can't login long enough for me to disable it, Edit: nvm, i managed to fix it. login under Failsafe GNOME session, and it'll be in safe mode, with all add-ons disabled, so you can manually turn them off

I wish I had kept them.I kept the .iso files for them, surely I should be able to mount the .iso and retrieve the wallpapers. where I would be able to find the wallpapers on the mounted .iso (note the .iso is not necessarily burned to a cd).
