I would like to toggle between 2 or more wallpapers on my 4 desktops (Compiz) with a simple hot key. Is there a command I can add to the Compiz command settings that toggles between 2 wallpapers?
View 8 RepliesSo I've seen the tutorials where you simply tell nautilus to not draw the wallpaper and then use ccsm's wallpaper-plugin to set different wallpapers. It's just that I don't seem to have said plugin Where could it be?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 64bit desktop and 64bit laptop. I upgraded both to 10.10 and they both have the same problem with compiz. Even though I selected the cylinder distortion, the rotating desktops will not deform to a cylinder unless I select "Wallpaper" in compiz but when I do that, the cylinder is completely transparent AND objects (like windows or bouncing/squishing icons in AWN appear not to refresh. Like a window will not disappear after closing.
As an aside, I have four different wallpapers selected for the four different desktops, but none of them display when I select "Wallpaper" in compiz, I just get the transparent cylinder.
If I deselect "Wallpaper" in compiz, the problem with the refresh disappears immediately, as does the transparent wallpapers but the cylinder becomes disabled and I am left with a cube with a single wallpaper and no ability to decrease opacity during rotation.
This has happened with both my desktop and laptop. I have tried uninstalling all compiz components in Synaptic Package Manager and adding them back one at a time in case I added some conflicting components but this doesn't seem to help.
I did not change settings in the updates, so I have to assume that the problem has something to do with a bug in Compiz. The two computers have different video cards and the drivers are up to date, so I'm at a loss.
Has anyone else found this problem? Has anyone been able to display the cylinder distortion with four desktops with different wallpapers?
Is there a way to toggle between a gnome and KDE desktops?

However, I can't see to find my newly installed wallpapers. It says they're installed, but they don't show up under wallpapers. Has anyone seen this before?

'm pretty new to Linux in general, but I have Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. I saw online about a Galaxy Live Wallpaper (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/10/a...er-for-ubuntu/), but when I try to get it with the Terminal, it says 404 for a bunch of the stuff, so it won't install. From what I gather, it was only supported in 10.10, and not 11.04.My question is, are there any other live wallpapers that are compatible with Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal? I'm really digging this OS, I'd love to make it even better. The Galaxy one was just incredible, I reeeeally wish it worked.

I got rid of my bottom panel, but I am still used to 'Show Desktop' button right in the bottom left corner. I was just thinking is it possible to Toggle 'Show Desktop' state just by moving my mouse in that corner?I was thinking of using wmctrl and compiz commands edge biding, but my problem is that wmctrl has two different commands - one for showing desktop one for hiding. I was looking at the live CD for the latest release, and I started thinking about how good the wallpapers were for Hardy and Intrepid. I wish I had kept them.I kept the .iso files for them, surely I should be able to mount the .iso and retrieve the wallpapers. where I would be able to find the wallpapers on the mounted .iso (note the .iso is not necessarily burned to a cd).

I found wmctrl which can maximize, minimize windows and so on, but it couldn't make a window "hidden". I have recently installed Lucid Lynx and am enjoying it immensely.I was just wondering if anyone can help me with setting up Conky to work with the Compiz wallpaper plugin.I've disabled Nautilus from drawing my desktop to enable multiple wallpapers in Compiz, but now I can't get Conky to show up on the desktop. Can anyone who's done this in Lynx post their .conkyrc files please?I've tried googling around for a solution, but most of the threads I came across were from 2007-2009, and some of the configuration options for Compiz have been updated since then. It'd be cool if I can still use conky in my multi-paper environment.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have found that the package "ubuntu-wallpapers-extra" appears to be the culprit in imposing a system-wide new default of a particular wallpaper background image on all users (both those already added and those yet to be added) as well as the login screen. It can be overridden. The problem is, it has to be overridden.
Anyone know of a way I can block any such changes from happening? If not that, what about a tool that will automatically revert such changes. The goal is so that users (and the login context) won't need an explicit background image to be set and when so, will get the image that was the default at install time.
I have a dual setup and just switched from Xubuntus Xfce? to Fluxbox... But now I can't set wallpapers on both my screens anymore. How do I do that? I had to change the Fluxbox menu from Head 1 to Head 2 to get it on my bigger, primary screen. Which is the one getting a wallpaper when I'm setting one.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using an IOGEAR KVM Switch to switch between my newly built PC and Xbox 360. I've been using it for a while on my 360 with no problems, but to switch inputs you have to use a hotkey on a keyboard that is connected to the KVM switch (there is no button on the KVM switch to toggle between inputs). My KVM switch is compatible with Linux, but each time I plug in my Logitech Wired Wave keyboard into my KVM switch and use the hotkey it fails to switch the input. The hotkey is the Scroll Lock key on the keyboard, and the Logitech Wired Wave keyboard doesn't have a key dedicated to that function.
So I use the key combo for Scroll Lock, which is Fn + Pause/Break. I haven't mapped out all the keys on this keyboard yet, but I figured it should already be mapped out, since all the other basic keyboard keys are working. I managed to switch the toggle key from tapping the Scroll Lock key (combo) twice to tapping the Control key twice, after finally figuring out the manual's long and convoluted key combinations to change the input toggle key setting. If anyone else encounters this problem I would direct you to the Page 11 of the product manual, which is available at the product page linked to above.
I need to read and write to a serial device. When I connect via gtkterm, I need to toggle DTR before I can communicate with the device . My problem is that I cannot emulate this in C++.
