My weather applet on the gnome panel disappeared and I cannot add it back i.e. when I go to "add to panel" and choose to add "Weather report" nothing happens.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have found a post (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1331653) that tells me how to add a location to the Locations.xml file for the Gnome Weather Applet (NOT THE CLOCK/WEATHER APPLET). However when I try to open the file (the file is 916 kb) in bluefish it just hangs and never opens. I have tried doing something with both vim and nano but my expertise in using either of those is non-existent. If someone can help me understand how to open a file in vim or nano so I can edit this file (or ANY way to edit this file)

I found a technical solution in this thread [URL], but I don't understand where the weather data comes from. In the file Locations.xml coordinates (e.g. 34.739188 -112.009879), codes (e.g. KSEZ) and zones (e.g. AZZ03 are specified. What do the codes and zones mean? How can I locate a weather station near me and find out it's codes? Where does the applet get its data from?For the weather report in the Clock Applet I just entered the coordinates of my location and now I'm getting some weather data. Does that mean that the program automatically takes data from the nearest location in its database?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt simply doesn't work. No matter what city I put there (I even tried putting American cities) the applet just widens a bit to the left and shows nothing. Doing some searches, I learned the protocol it uses is called METAR, the data is provided by airports, and the list of locations is at:[URL]..
But this file doesn't exist! What exists is:[URL].. And that one only has American cities. But, as I said, not even American cities work. Where should I start looking?
I have been trying to get current weather using the GNOME weather applet. The ones which are installed by default and you do right-click > Add to Panel kinda thing. Now the problem is I'm getting stale or fixed current weathers as well as forecast. I have been trying for several weeks but with no success.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had experienced a annoying feature relative to both the Gnome Weather-applet (the one linked to the clock) and the weather-desklet from Docky : With the same laptop (working under Lucid Lynx), they work perfectly fine when I am using them from work but never stop to update (in the case of the Docky desklet) or didn't show up (for the gnome weather-applet) when I am using them from home. In both case, I am using a WiFi connection and no proxy.
Has everyone else experimented such a problem ? If so, which parameters should I adjust to solve this trouble? PS : Wherever the place I am, I can access with a web-browser to the websites providing the weather forecast (iGoogle, weather.com and weather.underground).

The network manager applet has disappeared from my top panel so now I cannot see what local wireless networks are available. I just came from the library and was unable to connect to their wi-fi because the computer wasn't trying to detect it. All I have is a network connections applet that seems fairly useless as it just gives me info on networks I've used in the past and not on any currently available networks.How do I get this Network Manager back and functioning?
View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday while trying (unsuccessfully) to get a new Bluetooth dongle set up I lost the network manager applet. When I rebooted, after giving up on Bluetooth in Ubuntu, I had no way of connecting to my wireless network. In command line (iwconfig & iwlist scan) I was able to see the wireless router. So the wireless card is working correctly. How do I reinstall the network manager applet? Oh even when use a wired connection to the router there is no connection.

How do I get the shutdown menu back on the panel?

I use Lucid with Gnome. I lost the volume applet on the top panel. I tried to search for it under "Add to panel...", but couldn't find it.

symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?
I'd like to put an applet exactly in the middle of my Gnome Panel, I can't do it manually as the applet size varies so I need a way to put it in the middle always. The applet is dockbarX (a window list) so when I open or close a window the size of the applet changes and then it's not in the middle. Here you are an screenshot of what I'm talking about:[URL]..

I simply want a gnome panel applet that will run constantly and, when clicked, will display an IM style list of I.P. addresses that are active on the network I am currently connected to. I frequently travel between San Diego and Boston. I am able to add "Locations" to Gnome's Clock applet, which seems like it should take care of time zone information (see attached screenshot). However, I can't figure out how to set one (or the other) as my current location so that it will update my time zone information.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm experiencing a strange problem with GNOME Clock on Fedora 13. When the applet is in the bottom panel, and I click on the clock, the popup display appears at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom of the screen (above the bottom panel) as would be expected. Worse, the display appears higher than would be expected had the clock been on the top panel, meaning the display is cutoff (ie, the display goes off the top of the screen). I've tried playing with my .gconf files, and removing and re-adding the GNOME Clock applet, but nothing has worked. I'm not sure if this is a weird quirk particular to my settings, or a more general bug; can readers here check to see if the behavior I've described occurs if the Clock applet is added to the bottom panel?

I have Ubuntu 10.10 on e-machine T-1221 I can shut down the machine using :
sudo shutdown -h from terminal
I can shutdown using powerbutton on case. I can't use the applet indicator powerbutton in root account, but, I can use the command under "System-->-Shutdown" in root account, but I don't see "System-->-Shutdown" in users account. Is there a way to add it ? I installed Debian 6.0 Squeeze on my Acer Aspire 3620 Laptop it works just fine and has the same Gnome Desktop. The only thing different is that there is no powerbutton available thru Gnome applets, only the command on menu under" Sytem-->-Shutdown", which I'm fine with on this machine.

I tried "noacpi"
I tried "noacpi nolapic"
I read the bug reports it stated that on live-cd there was only suspend and hibernate. There is no shutdown or reboot. I tried: "#start acpi", it closed with errors. It said that Ubuntu uses upstart. Is there a script which you can add to power button to add the shutdown.? Really I don't necessarily need powerbutton, I think the work around would be adding the command to "System-->-Menu.
I installed ubuntu netbook edition on my desktop (from the Ubuntu Software Center) to test out Unity. It looked pretty cool, but every time I went to the sidebar it flashed black. I decided I didn't want to fiddle with it too much to get it working so I uninstalled the ubuntu-netbook package. Mutter was still hanging around though (and lot of other things I assume) so I uninstalled that as well. Now gnome-panel is gone and I don't know how to get it back. Any way to uninstall all those packages and put it back?
View 6 Replies View RelatedStarting yesterday the weather report applet 2.30.0 stopped updating at prescribed intervals. I have it set to check automatically for updated information every 5 minutes. It seems to be updating once an hour or more. The last two updates were at 53 minutes past the hour. In the past it has never went more than 10 minutes without an update. This is happening with two machines. I tried un-installing from the panel and reinstalling. I think I will try removing completely with synoptic package manager and reinstalling.

I can right click the lower task bar in Ubuntu and "remove this panel." if there is there any way I can bring it back? Also if anyone here uses Cairo Dock could you let me know your thoughts on it?

I tried adding a new location and I can see the weather for that location, just not my regular one (minneapolis). I think there is something wrong with whoever is supposed to be sending the weather info.
