I frequently travel between San Diego and Boston. I am able to add "Locations" to Gnome's Clock applet, which seems like it should take care of time zone information (see attached screenshot). However, I can't figure out how to set one (or the other) as my current location so that it will update my time zone information.

version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?
I'd like to put an applet exactly in the middle of my Gnome Panel, I can't do it manually as the applet size varies so I need a way to put it in the middle always. The applet is dockbarX (a window list) so when I open or close a window the size of the applet changes and then it's not in the middle. Here you are an screenshot of what I'm talking about:[URL]..

I simply want a gnome panel applet that will run constantly and, when clicked, will display an IM style list of I.P. addresses that are active on the network I am currently connected to. It should be able to have a configuration menu that will allow the user to specify a subnet mask, and frequency of scan. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm experiencing a strange problem with GNOME Clock on Fedora 13. When the applet is in the bottom panel, and I click on the clock, the popup display appears at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom of the screen (above the bottom panel) as would be expected. Worse, the display appears higher than would be expected had the clock been on the top panel, meaning the display is cutoff (ie, the display goes off the top of the screen). I've tried playing with my .gconf files, and removing and re-adding the GNOME Clock applet, but nothing has worked. I'm not sure if this is a weird quirk particular to my settings, or a more general bug; can readers here check to see if the behavior I've described occurs if the Clock applet is added to the bottom panel?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently noticed that the time displayed in the Gnome Clock applet is exactly (or nearly so) one second behind NTP time.I have a NTP server on my small network to which I sync my other PCs. Some of the applications I run are critical of time and need sub second accuracy - I am also a bit of Time Nut as well.My NTP server is OK. My PCs can sync to my NTP server OK. My applications which require precise time get the right time from NTP - BUT - the time displayed in the GNOME Clock applet is always behind one second!I have spent much time searching for others with similar problems and their solutions but so far nothing - hence my asking here, why do I see this behaviour and what can I do about it

I have Ubuntu 10.10 on e-machine T-1221 I can shut down the machine using :
sudo shutdown -h from terminal
I can shutdown using powerbutton on case. I can't use the applet indicator powerbutton in root account, but, I can use the command under "System-->-Shutdown" in root account, but I don't see "System-->-Shutdown" in users account. Is there a way to add it ? I installed Debian 6.0 Squeeze on my Acer Aspire 3620 Laptop it works just fine and has the same Gnome Desktop. The only thing different is that there is no powerbutton available thru Gnome applets, only the command on menu under" Sytem-->-Shutdown", which I'm fine with on this machine.
These are the things I tried on emachine T-1221
I tried "acpi=force"
I tried "noacpi"
I tried "noacpi nolapic"
I read the bug reports it stated that on live-cd there was only suspend and hibernate. There is no shutdown or reboot. I tried: "#start acpi", it closed with errors. It said that Ubuntu uses upstart. Is there a script which you can add to power button to add the shutdown.? Really I don't necessarily need powerbutton, I think the work around would be adding the command to "System-->-Menu.
I found a way to change the kernel time zone with the following command
$ ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/* /etc/localtime
After I tried it and checked the kernel time zone, but it didn't changed.
It seemed to be applied after rebooting.
Is there any way to change the kernel time zone "dynamically" with the
console command, not with the GUI environment?
I'd like to have two gnome clock applets, one with the regular default time and date in the upper right hand corner (the default) and another set to epoch time. However, I can't figure out how to set the second gnome clock applet to display the epoch time. I'm running FC12.

I can see that the system has the right date and time but it seems to get stuck on the Gnome panel. I have researched, ntp, ntpd, ntpupdate, tried all the tricks. Not sure what to do next.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I travel, I would like to tell my laptop that I, as a user, am in a different time zone that what the OS may think is local. And I would like the clock on my desktop (default Gnome bar date/time display) to show the local time.
Instead, I currently have to use sudo and change the system time... (click on the clock, choose time settings, set system time -- there are no other choices given). The applet thing allows me to add other locations, but they only show up if I click on the icon, as extra times below the main one.
Am I missing something? Using the wrong app?

It worked for all applets on the panel except for the notification area and me-menu where the font remains dark.
How can i force the font to a light color on these two applets?
Also as i used the "clarlooks" theme for controls the status indicator is duplicated:
There is one instance in the me-menu and another in the notification area. How can i remove either? I find that the gnome-panel is a real hassle since 10.04. Not only it is not logically constructed, but it is inconsistent and not customisation friendly.

On one computer, it's much faster with hiding/showing than the other computer.Could it be a performance thing that effects it? mean, the one that's quicker is a quad core with 4gb of ram, whereas the one that's slower is a pentium 4 with 1gb of ram.
