Is there any method to add a location to the list in the gnome weather applet/clock ?
[EDIT] To be more precise: my location is not there, how to extend the list with my location so I could have weather displayed for my city
It simply doesn't work. No matter what city I put there (I even tried putting American cities) the applet just widens a bit to the left and shows nothing. Doing some searches, I learned the protocol it uses is called METAR, the data is provided by airports, and the list of locations is at:[URL]..
But this file doesn't exist! What exists is:[URL].. And that one only has American cities. But, as I said, not even American cities work. Where should I start looking?
I like the clock applet in my system tray. It's nice to pull it open and see the time in other locations.
However, because of bandwidth, I'd like for it to stop requesting weather updates.
Is there a way to prevent the weather from being requested while still showing the locations, and timezones on the clock map?
After upgrading to F13 certainly - but from time to time my clock in Gnome will throw a wobbly. Not even consistent wobblies, sometimes the weather is missing completely, as now, sometimes only a slice of the weather icon appears, and the time/date display can be garbled. It seems to happen after a change such as booting up or a weather update, I've tried removing the applet from the panel and re-installing it, and even removing and re-installing the top panel. I'm reluctant to try removing and reinstalling Gnome-applets as that can remove a whole slew of dependencies and possibly bork an otherwise reliable install, after all I can live with it.

I tried adding a new location and I can see the weather for that location, just not my regular one (minneapolis). I think there is something wrong with whoever is supposed to be sending the weather info.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm experiencing a strange problem with GNOME Clock on Fedora 13. When the applet is in the bottom panel, and I click on the clock, the popup display appears at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom of the screen (above the bottom panel) as would be expected. Worse, the display appears higher than would be expected had the clock been on the top panel, meaning the display is cutoff (ie, the display goes off the top of the screen). I've tried playing with my .gconf files, and removing and re-adding the GNOME Clock applet, but nothing has worked. I'm not sure if this is a weird quirk particular to my settings, or a more general bug; can readers here check to see if the behavior I've described occurs if the Clock applet is added to the bottom panel?

Dunedin isn't listed as a city in the Gnome clock location thing - only Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland are in New Zealand.I can add my own custom city by specifying the latitude and longitude, which I have done, but I also want the weather for Dunedin to show up.Weather for Dunedin is available from Weather Underground, iGoogle and many other weather sites.

However when I try to open the file (the file is 916 kb) in bluefish it just hangs and never opens. I have tried doing something with both vim and nano but my expertise in using either of those is non-existent. If someone can help me understand how to open a file in vim or nano so I can edit this file (or ANY way to edit this file)

I found a technical solution in this thread [URL], but I don't understand where the weather data comes from. In the file Locations.xml coordinates (e.g. 34.739188 -112.009879), codes (e.g. KSEZ) and zones (e.g. AZZ03 are specified. What do the codes and zones mean? How can I locate a weather station near me and find out it's codes? Where does the applet get its data from?For the weather report in the Clock Applet I just entered the coordinates of my location and now I'm getting some weather data. Does that mean that the program automatically takes data from the nearest location in its database?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had experienced a annoying feature relative to both the Gnome Weather-applet (the one linked to the clock) and the weather-desklet from Docky : With the same laptop (working under Lucid Lynx), they work perfectly fine when I am using them from work but never stop to update (in the case of the Docky desklet) or didn't show up (for the gnome weather-applet) when I am using them from home. In both case, I am using a WiFi connection and no proxy.
Has everyone else experimented such a problem ? If so, which parameters should I adjust to solve this trouble? PS : Wherever the place I am, I can access with a web-browser to the websites providing the weather forecast (iGoogle, weather.com and weather.underground).
Any one know of a world clock applet that can be run in gnome 3, something that you can show or choose from different cities around the world.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently noticed that the time displayed in the Gnome Clock applet is exactly (or nearly so) one second behind NTP time.I have a NTP server on my small network to which I sync my other PCs. Some of the applications I run are critical of time and need sub second accuracy - I am also a bit of Time Nut as well.My NTP server is OK. My PCs can sync to my NTP server OK. My applications which require precise time get the right time from NTP - BUT - the time displayed in the GNOME Clock applet is always behind one second!I have spent much time searching for others with similar problems and their solutions but so far nothing - hence my asking here, why do I see this behaviour and what can I do about it

Now when I figured out how to put it back on the panel, I can't get it back to where it was (which was to the RIGHT of the system date/time applet). How can I do this as well as move the indicator applet that has the volume control in it?

If you of the applet thing on the top bar and click the edit button next to 'Locations' the clock preferences will pop-up.Now if you click on the general tab you will see by default that the clock applet thing should show you the time,temperature and weather...Yet if you look and the applet there is no notification of the of the temperature and weather.I tried to see if un-checking them and closing then opening them up again and re-checking would work but that has no effect.I think this is a minor bug in ubuntu and/or gnome and I would like and update and/or for Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat to correct this.
View 7 Replies View RelatedStarting yesterday the weather report applet 2.30.0 stopped updating at prescribed intervals. I have it set to check automatically for updated information every 5 minutes. It seems to be updating once an hour or more. The last two updates were at 53 minutes past the hour. In the past it has never went more than 10 minutes without an update. This is happening with two machines. I tried un-installing from the panel and reinstalling. I think I will try removing completely with synoptic package manager and reinstalling.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThere is a problem in the current version of the Gnome weather applet in that the web address it gets the details for a lot of Australian locations is no longer valid.
This is detailed in this bug report: [URL] and there is a patch for the source code for libgweather which now fixes it in the bug report.
Be warned that you have to currently compile your own fix and I found that the compilation process I used actually put the fixed library files in the wrong location - I had to manually move them to fix the issue (see the bug report for details).
Seeing this on two systems that went through F13-F14 upgrade.
version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?
I have a bit of a problem and the only solution I can think of at the moment is a very tedious one, so I was hoping there would be a better way. What I am trying to do is cross compile the PPPD program so that I can install it on an embedded system (this system does not have make/gcc on it). It was easy to cross compile it, but I can not run "make install" since I'm compiling on a secondary machine. I don't want to install PPPD on this secondary machine (I couldn't anyway, because it was compiled for a different architecture) and I can't run make install on the target machine because there is no make/build system for it.
So it seems like what I would have to do is to manually copy over each compiled file from the build machine to the appropriate location of the target machine. And the only way (that I know of) to figure out how to do this is to manually examine the Makefiles (yes, there are several for PPPD) and figure out which file should go where on the target system. This isn't trivial because it uses a hierarchy of makefiles and the probability of human error for this method is high.
Is it possible that I could run another command that would give me a list of all the commands that make install would perform? Or a list of all files and their target location for "make install"? Or possibly some other solution that I am completely unaware of that would make this task not so painful and error prone?
I used gconf-editor to change the format of the date and time displayed on the panel (I wanted sort-able strings for pasting into a table of OpenOffice base, since base can not automatically insert the current timestamp value into a column with the create time of its table row).which is not the default formatting, and the gconf-editor dialog does not show a separate attribute for setting the format of the date separately from the time format. Where is the format string for the date portion of the current date and time value ?

View 6 Replies View Relatedthe indicator applet on Lucid has a clock, so that I now have two in my panel: the clock applet and the one in the indicator applet. I prefer the clock applet and would like to get rid of the clock in the indicator applet.
It should be possible, since the clock only shows up on my desktop PC, not my laptop.
Sometime yesterday, I noticed that I couldn't turn off the computer using the indicator in the top right corner because of a glitch in how the clock is displayed. As you can see in the screenshot below, the indicator applet is hidden and I had no idea how to "refresh" the panel so that the indicator applet would show again. Although this doesn't happen often, I encounter this problem from time to time.
