View 5 RepliesI have Ubuntu 10.10 on e-machine T-1221 I can shut down the machine using :
sudo shutdown -h from terminal
I can shutdown using powerbutton on case. I can't use the applet indicator powerbutton in root account, but, I can use the command under "System-->-Shutdown" in root account, but I don't see "System-->-Shutdown" in users account. Is there a way to add it ? I installed Debian 6.0 Squeeze on my Acer Aspire 3620 Laptop it works just fine and has the same Gnome Desktop. The only thing different is that there is no powerbutton available thru Gnome applets, only the command on menu under" Sytem-->-Shutdown", which I'm fine with on this machine.
These are the things I tried on emachine T-1221
I tried "acpi=force"
I tried "noacpi"
I tried "noacpi nolapic"
I read the bug reports it stated that on live-cd there was only suspend and hibernate. There is no shutdown or reboot. I tried: "#start acpi", it closed with errors. It said that Ubuntu uses upstart. Is there a script which you can add to power button to add the shutdown.? Really I don't necessarily need powerbutton, I think the work around would be adding the command to "System-->-Menu.
Seeing this on two systems that went through F13-F14 upgrade.
version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?
Regarding the gnome-panel in Ubuntu (64 bit).... I discovered some time ago that I wasn't the only one who routinely (every login) had their gnome-panel appear butchered, for which Alt-F2 then 'killall gnome-panel' would easily fix.
Having become impatient with this over the past 8 months, I decided I would automate the process and so cofiguring the startup applications seemed like a perfectly logical choice to me. Turns out I was wrong. After adding 'killall gnome-panel' to the startup applications not only does the panel fail to load altogether now, but Alt-F2 doesn't even work.
I tried Ctl-Alt-F1 and working with the graphics-free mode thinking I could somehow navigate to the startup apps config file and edit it, but I don't know where it is or how to edit it without logging in as root and I certainly don't know of any 'root password'.
I'd like to put an applet exactly in the middle of my Gnome Panel, I can't do it manually as the applet size varies so I need a way to put it in the middle always. The applet is dockbarX (a window list) so when I open or close a window the size of the applet changes and then it's not in the middle. Here you are an screenshot of what I'm talking about:[URL]..

I simply want a gnome panel applet that will run constantly and, when clicked, will display an IM style list of I.P. addresses that are active on the network I am currently connected to. It should be able to have a configuration menu that will allow the user to specify a subnet mask, and frequency of scan. I'm experiencing a strange problem with GNOME Clock on Fedora 13. When the applet is in the bottom panel, and I click on the clock, the popup display appears at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom of the screen (above the bottom panel) as would be expected. Worse, the display appears higher than would be expected had the clock been on the top panel, meaning the display is cutoff (ie, the display goes off the top of the screen). I've tried playing with my .gconf files, and removing and re-adding the GNOME Clock applet, but nothing has worked. I'm not sure if this is a weird quirk particular to my settings, or a more general bug; can readers here check to see if the behavior I've described occurs if the Clock applet is added to the bottom panel?

I have a suspicion that this is easily fixed, however a good google (and this forum) hammering having turned up the fix. So I probably have the wrong search criteria, My Gnome Applet for switching CPU Frequency Scaling has 'disappeared' and is not listed in the the Add to Panel.. list of applets.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running CentOS 5.3, Gnome Panel 2.16.1. It seems some KDE applications just flash crazily in the windows list (task bar in Gnome panel). Usually when a new event happens to a window, it flashes to remind the user (I hate this *feature* anyway, but can't disable it...) But this time, when I switch from another workspace to the workspace that has (more than one) KDE applications (like kile and kdvi), they just simply start to flash, and the flashing window list appears on every workspace unless you click it.
I tried to disable the animation from gconf-editor, without success. Does anyone have similar issues? It is really annoying..

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was trying to customise my desktop, and I disabled gnome-panel as I don't need it (and auto-hide wasn't working). Now when I boot up I can't open anything as the "run" dialog using alt + q (changed shortcut from alt + f2) doesn't load, nor does the terminal via shortcuts. I'm using Compiz, and disabled nautilus drawing the desktop so Compiz could do it for me.
Do you know what I can do to get this back or to get the "run" dialog to open again? EDIT: Skype ran as start up, so I got a friend to send me a link, which opened my web browser. I then downloaded a file, and viewed it in nautilus which meant I could get to the terminal and run gnome-panel from there. I can now get it back easily when needed. Do you know if there is a way I can get the "run" dialog to work without needing the gnome-panel running?
I would like to know if there is a panel widget that works like the Window switcher (switch between windows using buttons) that only shows the icon. I m not looking for something like Docky, just a widget that goes into my panel.

I copied the file from my windows install into the System32 folder in .wine and into the folder where the application I am trying to run is, but wine still fails to load it. Is there anything else I need to do to make the dll accessible for wine programs?

1. all empty drawers can operate normally

anyone's got around to trying the "remember currently running applications" feature in gnome? It has previously been reported buggy. Users who made their system "remember" their currently running apps were unable to make the system "forget" these.

It was working fine before but now it's not. How can I fix this issue if I don't have an ethernet cord? Is there a way to roll back the recent updates or do I need to reinstall my network manager?
I've tried restarting the system and I've tried killing nm-applet and reloading it using Alt F2. I get some Debug error.
When I try to run nm-applet --sm-disable
It says an instance is already running and then gives me a warning.
