Ubuntu :: Voip Call Cuts In 25 Secs Through Netgear Router?
Aug 16, 2010
I have a Compaq Presario V2000 running Ubuntu 10.04. I use voip to call international mobile numbers. I'm currently using a Netgear router (at a friend's place) and now, my calls cut in 25 seconds. The call time keeps running, but neither can hear each other after 25 seconds. I've tried using service providers like Actionvoip and Jumblo (as they are cheaper than Skype) and clients like Ekiga and Twinkle. Same It happens on both Wi-Fi and ethernet. There is enough credit I tried using my friends Dell Latitude running Windows 7 with my Jumblo account. Surprisingly, it worked perfect!Previously I used a D-Link router and it worked flawlessly with my system.I fail to understand if it is some settings issue or a bug with Netgear's firmware. If anyone else has come across this issue and has been successful in getting around it

I would like to experiment with voip, is there any application which works successfully to make call from PC to phone, other than skype. If its beta also let me know, so that I can contribute my ideas to it. Any resource?

I want to set up a Linux box as a wireless router to replace our existing Netgear WNR1000 router, as I believe the Netgear does not support the coming IPv6 protocol. Unfortunately, it is not flashable with OpenWRT or DD-WRT presently.
As we have Comcast, our cable modem acts as a dumb modem according to the customer support guy I talked to, and our router is the one that asks for the IP address from DHCP. Thus, when Comcast switches over to IPv6, I don't believe my existing router would work, correct?
My idea is to take a Linux box and put two NICs and a wireless adapter in it, using IPCop or Smoothwall to set up a router. I could then enable IPv6 support for when we have IPv6 with Comcast. Is that possible? Would there be a way to get BIND to hand out private IP addresses in the same subnet on the both the LAN NIC and the wireless card?

I am complete new to the technical side of VOIP. I know above diagram is not technically correct. I want a setup that works like that and oh the cheaper yet not compromising the better, even ekiga or skype can do that.

When I install 99% of Linux distros they all come up as wired eth0 connected but the browser cant connect to the net. I found out it was because it cant find my Voip router if I disconnect the voip router they work fine. I am using NetCom V300 telephone router yet PCLinuxos 2009 has no problem with this issue. I have to use my Voip and also want to use the other 99% linux distros.

I use Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope.I have been trying to configure a NETGEAR DGN1000 modem router. my manual says that to access the modem for configuration, I should "Type URL... in the address field of [my] browser, and then click Enter."my browser, though, does not seem to find any such page and so I cannot continue the configuration. btw, we had no problem configuring another computer in the house running on windows vista, so that it looks like the cables are all in place, the modem and the line are ok.

I was just wondering because it has not yet become a problem. How would I access my Netgear MR314 router when I don't use Internet Explorer anymore? I used to access the software and make changes in port forwarding and even turn on/off wireless.

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix on my Acer Aspire One D250 computer. The broadcom wireless NIC succeeds in connecting to the network but only if I remove the WPA-PSK security in the Netgear router settings. What do I need to change in order to be able to secure my network?

I changed the passphrase in my Netgear WNR3500 router. I got the teenager's win7 netbook back online (wireless) no prob by simply changing the security key in windoze and it didn't effect my connectivity but when I attempt to enter my router setup by entering my local IP nothing happens, no response at all. I've rebooted twice and my connection is still very solid but I cannot access the router setup. The ONLY change I made was in the router's "passphrase".Not a big emergency at this point I suppose but I need to know what I need to change in Linux? Or to rephrase, in windoze7 passphrase=security key. In Linux?I can just reset the silly thing I guess but was kind of hoping I wouldn't have to and besides I anticipate the same trouble when setting the passphrase afterward.

I am trying to configure my ADSL modem/router. According to the manual it should go as this: For the initial connection to the Internet and configuration of your router, you need to connect a computer to the router which is set to automatically get its TCP/IP configuration from the router via DHCP.

I have just setup a debian box, and I want to be able to login to the machine remotely.Currently I have the following setup:Cable Modem -> Netgear Router (DHCP to outside world) -> Debian Box (DHCP for internal network)As I under stand it I have to set my Debian Box to use a static IP, but from there I di not know where to go.Also since my cable modem IP is dynamic, is there some way to have that the debian box get the IP address for the outside world, and e-mail it to my gmail account when it changes, or least every X hours?

I cannot connect to internet. I just installed Fedora 12 w/ the Live CD and I have a Linksys WMP54G Wireless Card (v4.1 I believe) and it apparently installed fine upon install of fedora. It will not thought connect to the internet. It reads my connect (NETGEAR-2.4-G), my router is a Netgear WNDR3300. It worked perfectly fine on Windows XP. Like I said, it picks up my wireless connection. But when I go to connect it attempts to connect for like a minute or two then goes back to not connected.

I have a Netgear DG834 ADSL router (v3) which I have used for a couple of years. Prior to that I had a v2 of the same router, but upgraded for the one that supports ADSL 2+ (here in the UK).
Recently I have been having problems with the connection often being dropped, and when I access 192.168.0.1 for the router admin page, when it is not working I get no IP address listed for that of the ISP's server, and sometimes as well the upstream and downstream speeds are listed as 0 kbps.
Usually this was resolved by rebooting the router.
However, for the last couple of days, when using Ubuntu 9.04, the page of the router at 192.168.0.1 will not load. I have tried numerous different browsers, and none of them will give the router admin page.
When I tried booting from a live CD of Fedora 13, the router admin page came up just fine, no problems (although still not getting a proper connection to the Internet).
I was going to try to use the older router I had, but so far, as I cannot access the router admin page in Ubuntu, I have not done so (not had the time, and now I am at work posting this).
So there must be a problem in Ubuntu that is preventing it showing the router's admin page. The Network connection details show that the router has given the PC an IP address of 192.168.0.6 and the DNS servers are listed, so I know that Ubuntu is talking to the router, but it is not allowing me to access its settings in any way.

I have a client that has a basic network that uses comcast cable. He bought a NETGEAR N300 wireless router which has a 192,.168.3.X network and he attempted to add it to his 10.10.10.X network and all is fine. He laptops and such can get to the internet fine. The issue is he cannot get to any of his devices on his 10.X network. I have looked at his comcast router which is controlling his 10.X network to see if I can add addition routing to his 192.X network. but didnt see anything. I also am not to familiar with the N300 wireless router. I was going to have the wireless DHCP turned off and some get it to pull the DHCP stuff from the comcast side but dont see any area to do this.

For my broadband Internet I have several computers connected by cable to a Netgear DG834Gv5 router which has its own firewall.I have the wireless turned off by choice. My desktop and laptop are Linux only. (Ubuntu lucid lynx) I use the same username and password (very strong password) on both. What I want to know is can I set things up so I can browse and copy files between the computers using say nautilus on either computer?if not nautilus then I would happy to be able to do the same via a terminal window.I am not necessarily wanting to be told how but either what to Google for or where to find it.

I would like to setup a qmail server for learning purposes (if you strongly feel Postfix is better, feel free to let me know). When I started setting up qmail (using Life with qmail), it suggested that having a DNS is the best approach. In the spirit of learning, I decided then to create another server for DNS only, and use that for qmail.
My problem is that, as this is a home installation, the internet is behind a Netgear DG834Gv5 router, on a DSL line that has a dynamic IP address. I am using DynDNS, but also don't mind having to update any DNS entries to keep up with the change, this is not exactly a production-grade setup.
In addition, I also have access to another DNS server where I can create authoritive entries for any domain I register. I have done that for a domain, and would like to point part of that to my home DNS so that I can learn.
So essentially, I would like to have a new zone for home.mydomain.org on my home DNS so that I can create new entries for *.home.mydomain.org such as qmail.home.mydomain.org etc. there.
I assume that this would include port forwarding on the router which is not a problem, but I truly have no clue where to start. I have a very basic install of Cent-OS 5.3 (no X and just Base a few admin and dev tools) and just installed the latest RPM of bind (9.3.x).

I have internet access through 3G/4G USB dongle direct into my Ubuntu 10.04 box. Works great! Now I would like to share this connection out through my Netgear WGR614 wireless (and wired) router. Any clues? I've tried the simple (GUI) instructions using Network Manager, but just can't seem to get it right. Previously, I had DSL and this plugged nicely into the WGR614 and internet and ethernet access was had by all. Now, I'm a bit confused on how to get the sharing (ethernet and wireless) between my Ubuntu box and the wired/wireless network while at the same time getting Internet access to all through the Ubuntu box.

I am attempting to copy files to a 1GB SD card using my built-in SD card reader on my notebook computer. This function worked great on Hardy Heron. However, I switched to Karmic Koala about a week ago. Upon insertion of the SD card, the entire desktop (including mouse cursor) will freeze for about 30 seconds. Then, the SD card apparently mounts with an icon showing on the desktop. I can then open Nautilus and view the files and folders on the card. When I attempt to copy a file over to the SD card, the transaction looks as though it completes because the file icon shows up. However, Nautilus suddenly unmounts the card. When I check the file, I find that only half or less has copied over the the SD card.

The problem is I need the php program to send member email confirmation which contains a confirm link. Run every min may still make the member wait. So I like to make it to run every 20 or 30 secs.
I don't want to put the code to send email on my sign up page as that's no good.
But I don't want to put a sleep 30 sec on my php script and going on loop. If it failed in the middle then it may wait abit to start.
What can be done to achieve my goal and what's the best way?
Making a php script to run as a daemon process? Is that possible and okay?

I have followed this guide [URL] to setup a diskless cluster based on ubuntu server. Every thing is fine in the boot process except this:
After the client boots vmlinuz and init.rd, I see some information and after a minute I see:
Code:
IP-Config: no response after 60 secs - giving up
/init: .: line 3: can't open /tmp/net-eth0.conf
kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
It is strange since it gets an ip address when it want to boot. I don't know what is wrong with it.

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 alongside my Windows 7 os in a dual boot config. I used an installation disk and allowed the ubuntu installer to do all the resizing of partitions, installing of grub, etc. The install is working great and I haven't needed to boot my windows os since which is great. The only complaint I have is that it takes it takes a bit longer to boot than windows did for some reason. The culprit is a blinking cursor that comes up and remains for about 12-15 seconds before the grub menu appears. I already altered the boot option for the grub menu so that ubuntu is default and the option to select another os only appears for 3 seconds but I don't think this is related since the delay occurs before those options appear. I'm not really sure what is causing the delay. Is it looking for the loader? If so, is there a way to edit the configuration so doesn't have to search? As I mentioned, the install is running great otherwise.

Just got Linux ubuntu 10.10 last week installed it and looks pretty nice. I was having problems with the wifi cutting in and out with my windows xp laptop. Wasn't sure why. I am connected via ad-hoc connection. I re-checked all the numbers and everything is ok there. Downloaded all the updates for via ubuntu update manager and it says I have Ubuntu 11.01, Don't know why that is? I have an Acer Aspire model 3680 computer. Anything I need to look for or check in the future to fix the wifi problem?
