View 12 RepliesI am trying to configure my ADSL modem/router. According to the manual it should go as this: For the initial connection to the Internet and configuration of your router, you need to connect a computer to the router which is set to automatically get its TCP/IP configuration from the router via DHCP.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to set up a Linux box as a wireless router to replace our existing Netgear WNR1000 router, as I believe the Netgear does not support the coming IPv6 protocol. Unfortunately, it is not flashable with OpenWRT or DD-WRT presently.
As we have Comcast, our cable modem acts as a dumb modem according to the customer support guy I talked to, and our router is the one that asks for the IP address from DHCP. Thus, when Comcast switches over to IPv6, I don't believe my existing router would work, correct?
My idea is to take a Linux box and put two NICs and a wireless adapter in it, using IPCop or Smoothwall to set up a router. I could then enable IPv6 support for when we have IPv6 with Comcast. Is that possible? Would there be a way to get BIND to hand out private IP addresses in the same subnet on the both the LAN NIC and the wireless card?
I cannot connect to internet. I just installed Fedora 12 w/ the Live CD and I have a Linksys WMP54G Wireless Card (v4.1 I believe) and it apparently installed fine upon install of fedora. It will not thought connect to the internet. It reads my connect (NETGEAR-2.4-G), my router is a Netgear WNDR3300. It worked perfectly fine on Windows XP. Like I said, it picks up my wireless connection. But when I go to connect it attempts to connect for like a minute or two then goes back to not connected.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI first installed Fedora 15 (full clean install) on a spare laptop I had sitting around and the install went flawlessly. I was able to install it and use it right out the gate. I was then able to install two of my must-have programs, xchat and libreoffice without any problems either. Then I tried the same thing on my primary desktop at work (and since I run an IT department, I already have permission to do this :-)
The problem I'm getting is trying to install anything;the package manager is having trouble contacting the source. The exact error reads: "Software source download failed. Could not contact source 'fedora', so it will be disabled."I have not made anychanges to the firewall on the machine and the machine does have a working internet connection (I am posting from the machine). Any tips or advice on ways to troubleshoot would be great. I'm by no means a linux expert, but I can get around the system fairly well
I was just wondering because it has not yet become a problem. How would I access my Netgear MR314 router when I don't use Internet Explorer anymore? I used to access the software and make changes in port forwarding and even turn on/off wireless.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario V2000 running Ubuntu 10.04. I use voip to call international mobile numbers. I'm currently using a Netgear router (at a friend's place) and now, my calls cut in 25 seconds. The call time keeps running, but neither can hear each other after 25 seconds. I've tried using service providers like Actionvoip and Jumblo (as they are cheaper than Skype) and clients like Ekiga and Twinkle. Same It happens on both Wi-Fi and ethernet. There is enough credit I tried using my friends Dell Latitude running Windows 7 with my Jumblo account. Surprisingly, it worked perfect!Previously I used a D-Link router and it worked flawlessly with my system.I fail to understand if it is some settings issue or a bug with Netgear's firmware. If anyone else has come across this issue and has been successful in getting around it

View 1 Replies View RelatedI changed the passphrase in my Netgear WNR3500 router. I got the teenager's win7 netbook back online (wireless) no prob by simply changing the security key in windoze and it didn't effect my connectivity but when I attempt to enter my router setup by entering my local IP nothing happens, no response at all. I've rebooted twice and my connection is still very solid but I cannot access the router setup. The ONLY change I made was in the router's "passphrase".Not a big emergency at this point I suppose but I need to know what I need to change in Linux? Or to rephrase, in windoze7 passphrase=security key. In Linux?I can just reset the silly thing I guess but was kind of hoping I wouldn't have to and besides I anticipate the same trouble when setting the passphrase afterward.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a client that has a basic network that uses comcast cable. He bought a NETGEAR N300 wireless router which has a 192,.168.3.X network and he attempted to add it to his 10.10.10.X network and all is fine. He laptops and such can get to the internet fine. The issue is he cannot get to any of his devices on his 10.X network. I have looked at his comcast router which is controlling his 10.X network to see if I can add addition routing to his 192.X network. but didnt see anything. I also am not to familiar with the N300 wireless router. I was going to have the wireless DHCP turned off and some get it to pull the DHCP stuff from the comcast side but dont see any area to do this.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Netgear DG834 ADSL router (v3) which I have used for a couple of years. Prior to that I had a v2 of the same router, but upgraded for the one that supports ADSL 2+ (here in the UK).
Recently I have been having problems with the connection often being dropped, and when I access 192.168.0.1 for the router admin page, when it is not working I get no IP address listed for that of the ISP's server, and sometimes as well the upstream and downstream speeds are listed as 0 kbps.
Usually this was resolved by rebooting the router.
However, for the last couple of days, when using Ubuntu 9.04, the page of the router at 192.168.0.1 will not load. I have tried numerous different browsers, and none of them will give the router admin page.
When I tried booting from a live CD of Fedora 13, the router admin page came up just fine, no problems (although still not getting a proper connection to the Internet).
I was going to try to use the older router I had, but so far, as I cannot access the router admin page in Ubuntu, I have not done so (not had the time, and now I am at work posting this).
So there must be a problem in Ubuntu that is preventing it showing the router's admin page. The Network connection details show that the router has given the PC an IP address of 192.168.0.6 and the DNS servers are listed, so I know that Ubuntu is talking to the router, but it is not allowing me to access its settings in any way.
could set up a firewall on my linux machine? I have is to connect my router wired to the linux machine and then from the linux machine to my main computer, and obviously routing the internet connection through the linux box as a firewall. I use a Netgear DG834G router

View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to setup a qmail server for learning purposes (if you strongly feel Postfix is better, feel free to let me know). When I started setting up qmail (using Life with qmail), it suggested that having a DNS is the best approach. In the spirit of learning, I decided then to create another server for DNS only, and use that for qmail.
My problem is that, as this is a home installation, the internet is behind a Netgear DG834Gv5 router, on a DSL line that has a dynamic IP address. I am using DynDNS, but also don't mind having to update any DNS entries to keep up with the change, this is not exactly a production-grade setup.
In addition, I also have access to another DNS server where I can create authoritive entries for any domain I register. I have done that for a domain, and would like to point part of that to my home DNS so that I can learn.
So essentially, I would like to have a new zone for home.mydomain.org on my home DNS so that I can create new entries for *.home.mydomain.org such as qmail.home.mydomain.org etc. there.
I assume that this would include port forwarding on the router which is not a problem, but I truly have no clue where to start. I have a very basic install of Cent-OS 5.3 (no X and just Base a few admin and dev tools) and just installed the latest RPM of bind (9.3.x).
compiler problem (f77) which arises when I try to execute a bash script ("compile" see [1] below) running under Cygwin on WinXP. The script finds the correct file(s) but the compiler does not recognize them as fortran source files. If the script is executed sequentially from the command line then there is no problem.
The directory structure of flh971da contains two subdirectories flh971da/scripts and flh971da/source. The compile script [1] is shown (in part) below. The script changes directory to flh971da/source, and compiles source from subdirectories flh971da/source/n where n=a,b,c etc and places the object files in flh971da/source/nobj n=a,b,c... etc. The response to flh971da/scripts/compile script is given below [2]. It is clear that the compiler (f77) locates the correct source file [4] (flh971da/source/a/a00aaft.f) but does not recognize it as a fortran source file. All relevant files have been processed with d2u. I suspect the problem is with the script, but I have no idea how to fix it.

I have internet access through 3G/4G USB dongle direct into my Ubuntu 10.04 box. Works great! Now I would like to share this connection out through my Netgear WGR614 wireless (and wired) router. Any clues? I've tried the simple (GUI) instructions using Network Manager, but just can't seem to get it right. Previously, I had DSL and this plugged nicely into the WGR614 and internet and ethernet access was had by all. Now, I'm a bit confused on how to get the sharing (ethernet and wireless) between my Ubuntu box and the wired/wireless network while at the same time getting Internet access to all through the Ubuntu box.

or do i need to unpack it to a certain place like: $ tar -jxvf mpg123-1.9.2.tar.bz ~/username/downloads/if thats the case I tried and it says no file or directory exists. IF I do get it unpacked the install instructions tell me:
1. New installation via GNU autotools
I dont understand because I can see it in the exact file path that it tells me doesnt exist. All I'm trying to do to install some software and its very frustrating because I dont know these simple commands that are the backbone of linux, which I really want to use. I realize that there are a ton of howto's out there but I havent found one that is easy enough to understand for someone who's never typed a command in his life or that isnt so broad and all encompassing that it blows my mind just look at the screen. Everytime I try to install Adobe Flash, I have problems. I go the RPM route or the YUM route and still have problems. I've even tried yum a 2nd time and it says its already installed, but if I go to a website that requires Flash, it says pluggin missing. On the other hand, if I go and install JAVA it somehow installs the pluggins and everything works from there on. Can someone tell me what I'm missing on the original install ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am facing bootup issue in Fedora 14.I troubleshoot the bootup issue i m facing probably because I have done change the name of volumes from disk utiltiy. I read somewhere that it should be done from another place (administration option, the last menu of fedora and there is some volume/disk management..like thing that give rod like blue/red picture of disk=>System-config-lvm) rather then disk utility under system tools. I think that my LVM path is not setup..due to rename of volume..it is mismatched somewhere...that includes path...finally using rescue disk i enter in shell prompt and mounted my system using chroot /mnt/sysimage
then found that my /home is empty, so done some readings and found that using mount /dev/vg_brs/home /home
i am able to get my home fixed that now appeared my user and whole data.
but that is till i m in shell prompt. Don't know where and how to fix/add this line so that boot loader of fedora will take this instead of something other that it is taking and not founding resulting in failure to boot with message (in between lines)
I boot it up using the live cd then try to install it to my hard drive. I want to dual boot Vista and Fedora, so I've created another partition. However I'm having trouble whilst installing. When I get to the stage to select where I want to install it I choose the "Custom" choice. It is then also obvious what partition to choose as one is much smaller. But no matter what options I pick for it, it brings up an error. >_<
I know this is probably a terrible and confusing explanation, but I'm a huge newb to linux and especially fedora. If you want a better explanation please ask and I will try to deliver.
Is anyone else having trouble with waking up from suspend mode? After bringing the computer (Dell Studio 1555) back from suspend mode, GNOME moves very slowly. Cursor is unresponsive for significant amounts of time - any open windows do not respond to selection... Effects don't usually go away until a reboot is performed. This evening, one such restart resulted in a crash, where the shutdown process locked at the attempt to shut down the mouse/pointer module..
