I am complete new to the technical side of VOIP. I know above diagram is not technically correct. I want a setup that works like that and oh the cheaper yet not compromising the better, even ekiga or skype can do that.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario V2000 running Ubuntu 10.04. I use voip to call international mobile numbers. I'm currently using a Netgear router (at a friend's place) and now, my calls cut in 25 seconds. The call time keeps running, but neither can hear each other after 25 seconds. I've tried using service providers like Actionvoip and Jumblo (as they are cheaper than Skype) and clients like Ekiga and Twinkle. Same It happens on both Wi-Fi and ethernet. There is enough credit I tried using my friends Dell Latitude running Windows 7 with my Jumblo account. Surprisingly, it worked perfect!Previously I used a D-Link router and it worked flawlessly with my system.I fail to understand if it is some settings issue or a bug with Netgear's firmware. If anyone else has come across this issue and has been successful in getting around it

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy home networking consists of a slackware box, running iptables with a dual NIC. That's the firewall. I have a Netgear FSM 7352S, which is a level 3 switch, which I am currently just using as a switch. Clients are numerous PCs and a couple of networked printers.
The "firewall" machine is also a file server.
Here are the issues I could use some pointers on:
I'd like to assure that the VOIP adapters get priority, assuring QOS, particularly voice quality.
I'd like to provide reasonable priority for video streaming, such as hulu and other sources, that the kids use.
I'd like bulk data transfers (like backing up partitions) to the file server that runs iptables, and acts as the firewall/gateway for a cable internet connection. It would be good to be able to do this without impacting VOIP and video streaming.
I'm using tcpdump and tcptrace to track all incoming and outgoing data packets through my network interfaces. But I fail to monitor the voip data for skype that way, although it works well with http port 80, for example.
I want to track the ip address of the data packets for skype, i.e. know the ip address of the other one speaking at the other end of skype. How can I achieve this?
I've checked the port setting in my skype and I'm sure I'm listening on the right port. But nothing is showing up while I'm in connection with skype.
I have a complex network. ADSL broadband comes into the house and connects to an Orange Livebox. An Ethernet cable then connects the Livebox to a more powerful router, a DrayTek Vigor 2710Vn. The reason for this is that the Livebox has a second line capability using Voip, but it is not powerful enough to get around my stone house. The DrayTek router has Voip capability, but as yet Orange will not connect the Voip line to it. I connect to this system with Ubuntu. Android, Windows and I-phone. I can connect to either of the routers, though I usually use the DrayTek.
Voip on the Livebox does not require a computer to run it, you just plug a normal phone into it and use it to get free calls. I actually take this line into a Panasonic telephone switch to give me a 2 line system around the house. The problem with this set-up is that after a short time something happens to the network which prevents Ubuntu computers connecting to it. Windows machines, I-phones and Android phones connect, but Ubuntu does not. If I re-boot the Livebox, or in an extreme case take it back to it's factory settings, the Ubuntu machines can connect again, but it's only temporary.
The fact that fixing Livebox sorts the problem definitely points to Ubuntu being innocent, but at the moment I can't do without the Livebox. That means, for the moment, having to stay with Windows. If I post the output log after a failed connection attempt, all it would show is the connection timing out. Why is Ubuntu so sensitive to network problems that are not of it's making. Is there anything I can do about it other than changing my ISP. I am considering that, but other factors make that difficult.
I just setup a linux machine that act as a gateway along with squid running in transparent mode. Now I have one asterisk server which is behind that gateway I mean on my local subnet which pass through my linux gateway. Voip server having 4mb up n 4 mb down limit. Clients having 512kbps and upload 2mb.

Now my question is regarding skype calling. Since skype uses port 80, does it mean that it passes its request via proxy or direct and for safe side I've changed skype incoming port to 443 which squid does not see it. How much and width does skype use for calling in that case. Some one told me that it using squid to pass its request which I don't agree.
I was given a project of installing a new Jive VOIP PBX and will be migrating it from an older Avaya PBX. I need to perform in order to migrate the DID's and extensions and etc from the old system to the new? It is something that I have never done and have been ask to perform a miracle. I have never used JIVE VOIP PBX's and am familiar with Trixbox stuff but for smaller business and nothing of this size.

I'm trying to setup QoS for my VoIP line on my debian router box. I have tested wondershaper and to me it doesn't seem to work at all, so I'm looking for a better solution. Ultimately I would like something in the lines of [URL] but I guess such nice things doesn't exist for linux. Currently I'm on an ADSL link switching to cable in a few months.

I've tried using the option UseDNS No in my my sshd_Config but to no success. I've tried reinstalling ubuntu fresh, but still it hangs upon trying to ssh from any machine. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 server.
Does anyone know of a commercial program that will run on openSUSE?I need something that is fairly user friendly, identifies individual voices, and does not require Wine. The machine is to be completely controlled by voice and would be programmed to issue vocals in response to vocal requests for what is in the various databases and I/O software, such as motion control and other sensor subsystems. In other words, a program that lends itself to AI robotics.I do not have the time to develop CMSphinx, and I am willing to pay. I have been on a few sites but they are cryptic as far as the technicals, which I do not fully understand anyway.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two asterisk servers each one behind a linux firewall/gw. Linux is Centos 5.4, kernel 2.6.18-164.el5, iptables v1.3.5. Routes on the fws are ok and when iptables is stoped the servers are see each other, all good. But when I run iptables script in any fw, one server (not always the same) goes unreachable. I verify this with asterisk -r, then show sip trunk, and status becomes UNREACHABLE.
Iptables scripts is generated by fwbuilder. The weird part is I put only one rule to de script and it looks like Source=any, Destination=any, Service=any, Interface=any, Direction (Inbound,Outbound)=any, Time=Any, Action=ACCEPT. So as you can see I tried something like "Do not do anything at all". But anyway I run the script in any fw and one server becomes UNREACHABLE. I think the script does something wrong after all or maybe I have some missconfiguration in my asterisk conf files. The point is I am not so expert in iptables or shell scripting so I can't see anything in the iptables script. I have look for some issues like iptables blocking because of ip_conntrack table full, or "dont fragment" bit set in kernel problem, but nothing seems to be the right problem at all.
I have recently bought a IP/PABX system with one FXO and one FXS port. I intend to install this on a remote site with a public but dynamic IP (can be resolved via dyndns though) and make calls via clients that are NATTed (inside a home router). I would like to seek advice on the port opening and the recommended settings. I have been reading a lot on VOIP and I am getting feedback that SIP calls are difficult to establish on a NATTed environment.
1.) SIP port 5060 UDP?
2.) RTP ports - what range should I open for this? I see some use 10000-20000 UDP
3.) STUN server - Is this something that needs to be configured?
How can I ensure that the other party can hear the audio just like a regular telephone? Is it really impossible to do if the client is behind a router in which it is using a Private IP Address? What other network configurations needs to be done?
when I try to access any page even small html pages it stays like 3 seconds in HTTP request sent; waiting for response. state..even when I use Lynx locally on the server..bypassing any possible network issues..logs dont show a thing..the server itself is a high end server with nothing running on it apart from apache which is not serving anny clients now, firewall is disabled and hostnamelookups are set to OFF.

I have tried from within my non-interative shell to spawn an interactive shell but my output still does not goto me. Isn't there a way I can somehow go into /proc or somwhere and make the output my /dev/tty1? Or some way else to remedy this?The situation arises because I drop from my restricted shell environment (a sort of CLI interface), into the actual Linux shell. I cannot change the code of the CLI environment I am just faced with being in the linux shell environment and its non-interactive. Its very annoying to have to put > /dev/tty1 after every command I type.
Not to mention it seems damn near impossible to get pagers like more and less to work properly when your in a non-interactive shell.
In practice I have a script that call a java program that call a linux system command. The script if I run it, from a shell functions well,so it is not a java problem. The problem come out when i put this script in a crontab schedulation. The result in this case is that java do not execute the system command. I think it depends on crontab

I am using my Belkin F5D8055 v1 USB adapter to connect to my router. The router registers that the IP 192.168.0.3 has connected (thats the IP assigned to the adapter) however even when trying to ping the router (192.168.0.1), I get no response.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was also having a problem with the Shutdown / Reboot sequence taking ages due to using WiFi, WPA2 and mounting SMB shares. I wasted about 4 hours digging around before I finally realised that the solution involved Upstart. 1. Open a terminal and enter:

3. Save the script and attempt a restart. I don't know if this will work for everyone, or even what version of Upstart you need for it to work, but it cuts my shutdown time from about 2 mins to about 30 seconds.
Note: This has been working for me about 90% of the time. Occasionally though I see that the script ends prematurely due to the TERM signal and I end up with the 2 minute wait again. I've added the following to the /etc/init/network-manager.conf file:

I'm a little stumped on this one so I reaching out to see if anyone here has any idea. I just changed my ISP to Surewest as they're doing fiber straight to the house in my area so I have 8Mbps up and down.
I have my linux box running openssh and I have no problems SSHing into it from my remote laptop at work. I use putty to connect to it and create a tunnel so I can configure my firefox to use it as a SOCKS proxy. The problem is my response time for page loads in firefox is atrocious now. It'll take over a minute to load yahoo.com. The only real differences in my setup now are my ISP and router hardware at home. Previously, I was using the firewall that was built into my AT&T Uverse gateway. Now, I'm using my old Linksys WRT54G v5.0 router with the latest firmware. My linux box is wired directly into it with ethernet. When I run the speed tests from that box I get my correct speeds of 8Mbps up and down with <15ms ping. From what I can tell, all of my router settings are correct.
I'm setting up an Ubuntu 10.04 system; installed open-ssh. I'll call this box A. I also have an older box B with Debian. From A I can log into B via the usual way (ssh <user>@<IP>). The 1st attempt at this I was presented with the 'unknown host' warnings & elected to accept it. However, from B when I try logging into A there is no response at all -- no warnings, nothing. I have to ctrl-C back to the prompt. I can successfully ping A from B though. I CAN connect to A from a Windows box using PuTTY as an ssh client with all default settings. Once connected I can log in. Why no response from A when trying to log in from B?

Have a Java program which simply connects to a server and gets back the response from the website.
When I use it under Windows environment it runs fine and i receive a Response Code: 200,
Response Message: OK but in UNIX i get Response Code 401, Response Message Unauthorized
In Unix I tried to ping the website using the ping command.
I use putty to connect to a Unix m/c. I don't have any permissions to install any programs so could not install any s/w so i could check if i were able to reach the website.
Is it a Proxy Server related issue ? If yes how do i configure it ?
