Feb 4, 2010I just installed virtualbox 3.1 via synaptic. Installation went fine, but no icon in any of the usual places where the blighter might be hiding or how I might get it back?

OpenSUSE Network :: Knetwork Manager Fails After Virtual Box Install
Aug 15, 2010I have installed Vbox on 2 systems running Opensuse 11.3 and both have experienced knetworkmanager failure. Knetworkmanager failed after a failed wake up from sleep mod, which also had been working perfectly until this failure. I am wondering if the vbox kernel modules could be causing this isssue. To temporarily fix the problem I am running my network connections through yast networks setting . (which uses the traditional ifup method and everything is working)

Aug 16, 2011I'm trying to create a web shortcut (desktop file) by dragging the icon from the Firefox address bar to a Thunar folder or desktop. This worked with older versions of Thunar and Firefox, but now that I'm running Xubuntu Natty (Firefox 5 and Thunar 1.2.1) it fails. Depending on the web site I try, it either creates a file containing the page's html instead of creating a .desktop shortcut file, or fails to create any file at all.

Jun 7, 2010I switched a working Lucid KVM guest from linux-server to linux-virtual and it could not mount root at boot time and issued a panic instead. Switching back (booted from CD and used "rescue a broken system") revived the VM.
My first guess is that some DM driver module needed for LVM is missing from the linux-virtual package.

Jul 1, 2009I am applying a virtual interface (eth0:0) which is failing after the system reboots. It actually cause the default interface (eth0) to fail as well, I must manually go in and remove the configuration for the eth:0:0 and restart the network to get it running again. How do I successfully add a Virtual interface to Fedora 11 that will stick when rebooted.

It extracted and asked me for a installation location, to which i put [~]
It then finished the installation.
But when i click on the icon in the start menu or on desktop it fails to start, when i also click on a .pdf document it also fails to start!

Jul 1, 2011I have two servers relavant here: mail.domain.com (1.1.1.1) - which is the nameserver and the mail server for domain.com. www.domain.com (2.2.2.2) - which is the www subdomain for domain.com domain.com (cname www.domain.com) - an alias for www.
The zone file for domain.com lists mail.domain.com as the MX server for domain.com. 2.2.2.2 is actually being served web pages as a virtual host. It's real hostname is www.anotherdomain.com. Mail for domain.com works pretty well, in general. However, if I attempt to send mail from www.domain.com (or its alias domain.com), I get "mail for domain.com loops back to myself" in the postfix logs. On 2.2.2.2 /etc/postfix/mail.cf has mydestination = www.anotherdomain.com, localhost. How do I tell postfix on 2.2.2.2 that mail for domain.com needs to be delivered to mail.domain.com?

I had a brief play with an older version a while ago and liked whatI saw.Im having problems installing though.I've downloaded the 32bit version from the studio website link, and burnt the DVD.However the install always fails at the same stage: Select and install software.The error message is not specific, and no more information is given other than the step has failed.Any ideas what could be causing this? Ive tried to burn the DVD several times, on 2 different machines, but no luck so far.

May 1, 2011I've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.

Jun 28, 2009I have been using Redhat/Fedora for 11 years. I don't understand why Fedora 11, can't even do a vga graphical install, when Windows can.
I tried many parameters, including xdriver=vesa, and it cannot used graphical install.
So, I tried text install, which I have done many times in the past.
However, F11 seems crippled, in that it will NOT do the same install achievable from a graphical install.
It will NOT allow the use of fdisk, and it will NOT allow any selection of any packages.
What is the point of this option?
Even after trying all of this, for a dual boot install, and F11 claims to have installed, there is no grub or equivalent, and the computer just boots windows, just like Fedora 11 did absolutely nothing.
What are the options now? Why is text install so crippled and incomplete? Why is standard VGA mode so hard?

It looks to me as if opensuse can already figure out how to use my network card. I went ahead and skipped the test, but it still doesn't make any sense to me.
