View 1 Replies View RelatedIn light of my previous achievement in wireless networking, I've decided to create a larger issue for myself to solve. Which hopefully I can get some help with. Because my system is totally kisspoped up, for those of you who get what that means. I was trying to install GRUB via the .txz package and it created a mirrored image of the /boot folder. Which for some reason contained the / folder. Which in turn held /boot and all the other folders / is expected to contain.
Now, trying to remove the extra /boot folder proved difficult, but once I finally was able to figure it out, I remembered I could removepkg and that would probably mend the situation. However, I was already 20-something percent through moving the files to trash. Now when I checked /, /boot was gone from there. Along with various other folders. SO! Apparently the /tmp/boot folder created was in reality the /boot folder, albeit in the wrong place and having the wrong contents. Somehow, one folder existed as two different versions of itself at the same point in time. Much as a Time Lord might. Deleting one made the other vanish with it.
Good news:I removed it via Thunar and it should be in the root user's trash /home and some other folders had yet to be trashed when I hit cancel, so I can still use some things Bad news:I never ran X as root, so I don't know if it HAS a trash folder I can only use things already started up because the binaries are gone, but the configuration files in /home are still there (although /usr/bin remains)
Ideally, there would be a big UNDO button somewhere in this long row of function keys. Reasonably, there should be some kind of restoration tool. Realistically, I think I'm going to have to reinstall the system, which wasn't easy in the first place due to my faulty disc bay which detects discs at will.
I've made some of my own icons in Gimp and saved them as .pngs. The problem is, when I use them they always appear smaller than the system default icons. Is there no way to make them as the same size as the system icons? I read somewhere that GNOME (which is what I use) uses .png .svg and .xpm. I am only able to save as .png with GIMP, is there a way to get .svg and .xpm extension capabilities with GIMP?
These are the icons (only two):
1. HJ-Split Folder
2. Blood Frontier Folder
Is there maybe a specific way to make folder icons that I am not following? Using Ubuntu 9.10, Desktop edition.
Because Remastersys has a size limit for its backups, I exclude the Pictures folder. Therefore, when I do a restore, there is no pictures folder; when I create one, it gets the generic folder icon, rather than the folder icon that is normally associated with the Pictures folder. I know that through properties I can replace the folder icon with anything, but I have not been able to find where the generic pictures folder icon is stored. If I choose a specific icon, and change the icon theme, the custom icon remains. Further, when I make a bookmark for the new Pictures folder, it gets the generic folder icon, no matter what icon is assigned to the Pictures folder. There must be a way to restore the generic Pictures folder icon, so that it changes with the icon theme.

So I tried it out and everything went fine.I switched back to the Desktop environment and noticed that the widget on my desktop, which normally shows the items of my desktop folder, changed into an icon I have to click first before I can see the content.I rather have it as if was when I installed Kubuntu.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a folder in my Home folder and called "Projects". I want to change the icon of the folder Project so the icon changed in everywhere. In "Places", Open Dialogs, Save Dialogs and Normal View in Nautilus.
What I have done:
Change the icon using Right-Click -> Properties -> Basic Tab -> Clicked the current icon and changed it.
But this changed it only in Nautilus. If I added this folder to "Places" it will appear with the Default icon. The same thing if I browsed to it using Open Dialogs or Save Dialogs.
my folder emblems just stay grey. I don't know what it is I did that caused it but when I try to change the theme the folder emblems just stay the same (grey and simple) but it looks different on my panel.

The Music folder itself has got a music folder icon, but all of the subfolders have the regular folder icon, I would like all of the subfolders to have the music folder icon but I don't want to go through each folder to change the icons one at the time. I downloaded the new eclipse indingo and extracted it to /home/user/opt/eclipse. I then made a link to the eclipse executable on my Desktop folder. It works well, if I click the link it opens eclipse. My problem is that it shows the rachet icon on the desktop. When I try to change the icon for only that link I end up changing all the icons for all executable to eclipse's icon.

View 5 Replies View RelatedA couple of days ago I set up an account with ZumoDrive to sync folders between my Fedora 14 desktop and my MS Vista laptop. I chose ZumoDrive instead of Dropbox or Ubuntu1 because it is 'integrated' with Yahoo which I use a lot.Everything works perfectly apart from one minor irritation. I cannot change the ZumoDrive folder icon on my KDE4 desktop. ZumoDrive is actually designed for use with Nautilus but it works fine with Dolphin, apart from the icon issue.
I can change the icon in Nautilus but when I try to do in in KDE/Dolphin I get:"Could not save properties. You do not have sufficient access to write to /home/david/ZumoDrive/.directory."I am the 'owner' of the drive and i have also tried as root but the result was the same.
I am using archlinux with gnome 3. I am trying hard to change my icon theme to human but it just doesnt change. ~/.gtkrc-2.0 [URL]. I tried lxappearance too. After I click on apply and close it gnome kinda restarts and when I open nautilus it shows no change. I had tango icon theme so I deleted that dir from /usr/share/icons. View 2 Replies View RelatedI originally attempted to compile and install xmonad package by package, and the end result was this:
Code:

X Error of failed request: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) Major opcode of failed request: 2 (X_ChangeWindowAttributes) Serial number of failed request: 7 Current serial number in output stream: 8 I figured I left out a flag on the make file or something, so I tried the slackbuild packages next; however, the same error was present at launch.
Sometimes i have on some magazines or Internet Zip packages that are the answer of what i am looking for.
Wich tool and how can i do it? c Well, i am in position to say that i had downloaded from Internet or located the package in the Cd or DVD that comes with the magazine.
But now comes the big question. How can i put this package ( install) on my distro ???
Do i have to be a normal user or should it be root or su (superuser) ?
The packages that come with the distro is easy, because i select them and everything is done
As i told before, maybe this is a silly question, but i simple don't know how to install them and i need some of them to leave MS for good.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.
Ive had a few freeze ups on this system but the last time it affected the top panel. The wireless icon has disappeared to be replaced by an extra bluetooth icon.screenshot attached. Is there any kind of clean up utility (like tune up utilities in win)Also, any kind of log so I can trace this freeze up Iḿ getting.Ive only just got this laptop so dont know if it did it before although prev owner never mentioned it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm updating a working kickstart configuration.Got a good iso from it the last time used.I simply want to add 2 rpms to the installation. So I added the rpms (libganglia & libconfuse) into the ../Server directory. I added those two names to the %packages section in the .cfg file. And I added those two names into two new appropriate lines in the ../Server/repodata/comps.xml file.
I ran "createrepo -g repodata/comps.xml ." from the ../Server (rpms) directory. I then ran my "mkisofs" without issue, and used the resulting .iso. The message I get during installation is "You have specified the package 'libganglia' should be installed. This package does not exist. Would you like to continue or abort your installation?". I've tried several variations of the createrepo command.
I have recently installed Faenza icon theme and just began to notice the inconsistency of icon emblems being displayed by compiz.Attached image shows the emblems of Chromium, Nautilus and Comix are that of the default icons, while Empathy andCompizConfigSettingsManager displayed the custom icon correctly. The dock displays all apps' icons correctly though. The issue does not occur exclusively to Application Switcher (Alt+Tab), it also occurs with Scale (Super+W), Shift Switcher (Super+Tab).
