Ubuntu :: Inconsistency Of Icon Emblems When Using Custom Icon Theme?
Feb 16, 2011
I have recently installed Faenza icon theme and just began to notice the inconsistency of icon emblems being displayed by compiz.Attached image shows the emblems of Chromium, Nautilus and Comix are that of the default icons, while Empathy andCompizConfigSettingsManager displayed the custom icon correctly. The dock displays all apps' icons correctly though. The issue does not occur exclusively to Application Switcher (Alt+Tab), it also occurs with Scale (Super+W), Shift Switcher (Super+Tab).

In past versions of Ubuntu, I've used a customized version of oxygen-refit-red. This time, however, there is no apparent option to install the theme from a tar.bz2 file.

I have just created an 11.3 64 bit image using susestudio. All seems well but would like to customize the desktop via my script that I have added. My question is how do I remove the home directory and the trash icon from the desktop? Or better said what is the path to removing the symbolic link, I cannot find the symbolic links in the desktop directory. It is empty, I do not see any symbolic links under /home/test/Desktop?

I have d/l and am using an icon theme I got from gnome-look. I like all the icons except for a few, specifically the trash, and would like to change them but I can't figure out how. I d/l an empty and full trash icon. I looked in the /home/username/.icons/themename folder and found the two trash icons that came with the theme (they were in ~/.icons/themename/scalable/places). Changed the names of the ones I d/l and replaced those current ones with them.how to do this? I would also like to change the Menu Bar icon back to the gnome foot.

I am using Natty in Classic Gnome mode with a custom icon set, Awoken. It is doing fine, but an upgrade was released a few days ago and the installation fails:
Code:
Preparing to replace awoken-icon-theme 2.0~ppa1~natty2 (using .../awoken-icon-theme_2.1~ppa1~natty1_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement awoken-icon-theme ...
[Code]....
There is a page for awoken-icon-theme package on Launchpad, but I cannot find a way to submit a bug on it. If I try "ubuntu-bug awoken-icon-theme", it is rejected because it is not an Ubuntu package. I understand that. Should I try to contact the developer directly?
How can I resolve this error and get the upgrade installed?

I found an icon theme I want to use. The problem is that it has no index file. Is there some kind of script I can run to automatically generate the index file? Or do I have to go about this manually?

If I download and install an icon theme in 10.04, but for certain applications would prefer the "default" icon, how would I change that? I noticed that if the theme doesn't have a "custom" icon for a program, then it does use the default one.

I am looking for a way to (via bash script) set a custom directory icon for a number of directories. All of these directories contain a "cover.jpg" image. I can accomplish this manually by right clicking the directory > select "Properties > click the directory icon button > select the "cover.jpg" image. I am just looking for the way to do this in the terminal to save time, as the music collection is quite large.

1)I added an icon named Backtrack.png to /boot/burg/themes
2)modified the /boot/burg/themes/icons/large file to have in the class block
3)modified /etc/burg.d/40_custom for the entry Backtrack to
menuentry "BackTrack 4.0" --class backtrack --class os --group group_/dev/sda7
Still on loading the place for Backtrack is Occupied by the image for Unknown Classes...

I am using Ubuntu 10.10 and having trouble setting a custom icon for an application launcher that I created. I have created and SVG file and placed it in /usr/shared/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/ and when I try to select it as the icon for the application launcher, it just goes back to the gnome-panel-launcher.svg default. If I put the SVG file on my desktop and then select it, all is well. I'm assuming this is some type of permission problem, but I cannot seem to figure it out. I have set the permissions to be identical to the other icons in /usr/shared/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/, but have no luck doing that either.

I really like the new, MacOS-like icons in the taskbar. The problem is that if I change the icon theme (to something else than the themes present in ubuntu by default;e the Shiki-Wise theme) the nice icons in the taskbar are gone too. Is there a way of keeping those?

I have got my Ubuntu desktop looking exactly how I want it apart from one little thing. I would like Docky to use a different icon theme then the one I am using for gnome. See these are the icons I want to use on Gnome/Nautilus: But these are the icons I want for Docky: So what I want to end up with is this: I have had a look in gconf-editor to see if there are any settings to do this but there doesn't seem to be any, I even tried adding a stringvalue with "icon_theme" and putting in the theme I wanted to use but that didn't work. Is there anyway I can manual edit a Docky config file to tell it what icon theme to use?

I'm sure there's a really easy way to do this in the Configuration Wizard, but what I want to do is change the icon that is usually the Ubuntu icon that is now the Gnome icon (after having installed the "Slick Red" theme back to being the Ubuntu symbol. On the very top Left of the screenshot: [URL]

I went to:Configure Desktop > Appearance > Icons > Get New Themesand I chose a new theme by clicking "Install." Now it shows it as installed (has "uninstall" button) but when I go to "Customize KDE Icons" it doesn't show up. I tried logging out and back in but it still won't show as a choice (but it's still "installed" somewhere).

I'm slowly getting used to Gnome 3 and trying to give it a chance. After a few oddities (like it swallowing my Gnome Shell and Tilda invocations because I use Super in them) then I think I'm slowly getting used to it. There are still some things I miss from Compiz, but it has potential and I like some bits (the notifications and dialogs).I don't know what got upgraded, but my themes seemed to be working before yet today I've got the default Sonar rather than my darker Sonar theme with a fixed Chromium style. I've managed to change the titlebar theme, but I can't change the GTK theme or the icon theme.
Running "gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface icon-theme" reports "Tango-green", but I still have the default icon theme and using Appearances only partially works.Running "gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme" reports "SonarLighter" (the menu bar is lighter to match the Uniq theme) but I'm definitely seeing Sonar.I've tried gnome-tweak-tool from someone's OBS, but various dependencies seem to be missing (first it bails with the wrong GI version, then I updated some other bits and tried again, but even after switching a dozen or more packages then it never started).

creating your own notification icon for Gnome? Like the Power, Network, and Sound ones. I found something called Zenity but it doesn't seem to be able to create a drop-down menu and I can't see how I'd update the information in the icon once it is created. I have a script set up to check something and want to report the results back via a persistent notification icon, with the ability to change the icon and its properties (mouseover/tooltip text) and drown-down menu text as appropriate.

I have the Faenza Icon Theme installed, but it seems blueman-applet could care less. The applet's icon does change to use the Bluetooth application icon, but when it is active or disabled, it uses the icons in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/24/status/.
Part of the problem may be that Faenza has the status icon named bluetooth-active/bluetooth-disabled instead of blueman-active/blueman disabled. However, even if I rename these in /usr/share/icons/Faenza/24/status/, nothing changes. If I copy the icons into the first location mentioned and rename them, it does work. I don't have a problem doing this, but if I ever change themes, I'll have to do it again. Anyway I can make it use the icon theme?

After I had upgraded the system to Fedora 14, the icons for pretty much everything except for programs and plain text files in gnome theme (and every other theme that shares them) became inaccessible - they are replaced by a standard icon that appears when no other is found. Other themes, that share no icon with gnome (tango, gnome-colors, etc.), work correctly. I'm using Xfce desktop.
I've deleted icon-theme.cache, but it did nothing.
Any suggestions, what may be causing this?

how to change this icon to match the theme. Seems to be to only application so far that has not picked up the correct icon. The quick launch icon is correct, but not the task manager icon. It seems to be picking it up from some other location before using the one in the theme file.
Under root/usr/lib/firefox there are some default icons. Also under root/usr/share/pixmaps there are a couple icons for firefox. All these match the one pictured. The icon under root/usr/share/apps is the correct one for the theme. These are the only locations that I am aware of with exception of the theme file.
Would renaming the icons under lib/firefox and share/pixmaps force it to use the themed icon?
It seems that this firefox icon is a problem with any icon theme that I use.

I've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.

I am using Faenza Icons, which is reflected in the icons on the throughout the system except in the windows list applet for certain applications like Firefox and Chrome in the gnome panel. The indicator applet and the menu do show Faenza icons for all the items (including firefox and chrome). I am yet to check for other applications which do not follow the icon theme. I want the windows list to be consistent with the menu and it feels strange that certain applications follow their own icons disregarding the theme I have selected.
