I just downloaded OpenSUSE 11.4. After burning the iso and trying to install I get a "cannot exec bcedit.exe" error and the install fails. Has anyone else had this happen and what do I do now?

Im trying to install OpenSUSE 11.3 on a Windows 7 64bit laptop (HP G61). After I select English as the language I want to install I get this error and ends the install. Note: Ive burned several ISOs, some at different speeds even, they always have the same error.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using OpenSUSE 11.4, trying to install to an iSCSI partition. I'm using gPXE to boot to my iSCSI volume. This works fine, and pulls up grub with my boot options. I think boot the openSUSE 11.4 entry, which kicks off the boot process. I see the steps for running DHCP on the interface, but when it gets to iscsiadm, there's an error logging in to the iSCSI target portal along the lines of "15 - already exists. After that things start to fall apart - I/O errors, mainly, and the system completely fails to boot. What's going on and what this already exists message means?

I want to stop using Windows because it sucks so i have downloaded all kind of distibutions from Linux. They give all the same error because it seems Linux has problems with Fakeraid. Now i have running OpenSuse in VmWare 7.0.1 but i want it as the only OS.
The installation goes fine but in the end it gives a Grub error because it cannot create the bootloader. It seems to be a common problem and i have done all the steps that i could find on Google.
I have two raid controllers. One is integrated in the mainboard from Asrock ALiveNF7G-HD720p R5.0 and OpenSuse sees it as a Jmicron controller.I have bought also a EM2001 2 Poorts PCI Controller SATA card with two harddisks in Raid 0 because Linux failed to install on the JMicron. On the EM2001 2 Poorts PCI Controller SATA it also fails with the same error.
I want OpenSuse 11.2 working on Raid 0. I know it must be some simple commands in the terminal through a live cd to correct the bootloader and do it manualy by Linux users but i'm a Windows user.
Can somewhone please tell me the exact steps and commands to install Linux on Raid 0 Fakeraid?
I recently downloaded the wine-1.3.16-x86_64-1sg.txz and did an install using: installpkg wine-1.3.16-x86_64-1sg.txz The install appeared to work correctly and I can now type 'wine' and get the version number etc... But, when I attempt to open an .exe file using wine I receive the following error: wine: could not exec wineserver I am new to Slackware (and linux in general); so where do I go from here?

Why would this happen if I just installed opensuse using the internet? It looks to me as if opensuse can already figure out how to use my network card. I went ahead and skipped the test, but it still doesn't make any sense to me. Let's see if internet works once I'm logged in...

Installation program correctly initializes graphics - all installation completes with automatic configuration - gives no option for sax2 to run. Then Suse does not comes up or the x does not comes up or display is not showing anything. I can switch to Vista and Vista boots works from grub menu. How can I test and configure graphics and monitor before installer boots the system?

I'm getting a "failed to download /suse/setup/descr/packages.DU.gz from [URL] It seems to get about 48% and just hangs there. This happens both if I try downloading updates during the install or if I try doing an on-line update after the system is up.

When I try to install OpenSuse 11.2, the keyboard works in the first screen, so I can select "Installation" with the arrow keys. But when the next screen comes up (select keyboard etc.), neither keyboard nor mouse work. Well, the CapsLock and NumLock LEDs light up, but that is all (and hitting the corresponding keys does not turn them off.)
View 6 Replies View RelatedHave burned a DVD of 11.4 64bit and am trying to install alongside Windows 7. The boot from the disk starts, I get a SUSE splash screen and initial menu. I check install source (F4) is set to CDROM. When I then select "install" the kernel loads, but then it goes wrong. Whatever I do I get "No repository found". It's almost as though, having loaded the kernel from the DVD, the installer can no longer see the disk.

Error occured while installing grub.
The only exception to a normal install is that sda1 is formatted with ext2 (to avoid journaling). I have had 11.1 running on that drive for several months without problems so there is no reason to believe it's a hardware problem.
Can I abort at this point and perhaps fix it from a live boot?
My system configuration is: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2Ghz, 2Gb of RAM, Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT, Tv tuner Winfast PVR2000 XP Expert (autodetected according to the installer)
I never had a problem while installing openSUSE untill openSUSE 11.4.
All goes well while installing and configuring the network card, sound and even display(under nouveau). The problem is at the tv tuner. After i adjust some settings to it and pres OK so that the installer can save the settings all goes wrong. The installer freezes and i have to reboot the pc.
After repeating the configuration procedure and skiping this step, configuring the tv tuner using Yast this time, leads to the same thing: desktop freezes and i had to reboot because nothing is reponding anymore.
I have a major problem installing opensuse 11.3 on my computer( hp pavilion dv6).I downloaded openSUSE-11.3-GNOME-LiveCD-x86_64 from software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 11.3 and made a live usb.I'm a newbie at using linux infact i never used another operating system beside windows.Now i have installed windows 7 (on c disk 100gb).My first problem when i am trying to install opensuse is that he dosn't automatic choose to make my partitions so i have to do it manualy.I was searching how to make it the best way so i desited to make 4 partitons one for ' /boot' one for ' / 'one for '/home' and a swap partition/In windows7 i made 4 new partitons
3:10 gb for /boot
4:10 gb for/
5:70 gb for /user
6:10 gb for /swap
My first question is :Is this right to make 4 paritions in windows (opensuse can't format or resize my partitions it just can edit it ) so it's my only way to make partitions( If this is wrong how can i make partitions then)
My second question is how to change the bootloader configurtation because everytime when ii try to install opensuse it stops at about 96% and it says to reconfigure the bootloader options.
If i skip this i get the folowing message

I was told to simply go into the fstab folder to allow myself permissions to execute files without becoming root, but instead of following it blindly I need a 2nd opinion. I cannot install a specific program because of configuration problems even though I downloaded all the gcc, g++ etc packages.

Now at stage 2 when I write the command dir/ls in the tmp directory I see the file: linux-2.6.26.tar.bz2 (2.6.26 is the version of my kernel) And now if I try to the tar function on my file and write it like this: Code: tar -xjvf linux-2.6.26.tar.bz2 -C /usr/src it gives me couple of errors like:
tar: bzip2: can not exec: no such directory
tar: error is unrecoverable: exiting now
tar: child returned status 2
tar: error exit delayed from previus errors
Anyone installed natty beta 2 from USB? Fails with errno 5 (io error) on me but ubuntu beta 2 worked fine with the same HD partition?

Or is there such a thing as a bootable file which can be downloaded and inserted into my CD drive to correct this problem?
I am unable to install CentOS V5.4 on my work station.
After collecting the config info (root password, etc.) the installation immediately gets disk write errors while doing PVCREATE.
I'm installing from the DVD to the 136GB SCSI drive. The drive is known to be good and is writable as a Windows
volume.
The scsi drive is the only drive selected for installation.
I've selected to delete all partitions on the volume and install default configuration however the new partition is not created. code...
I want to install suse 11.x on a diskless node. The suse repository has been copied from the install DVD to /srv/ftp/suse on my suse 11.1 server. This directory is NFS exported. DHCP and atftp have been installed and the files initrc, linux, and pxelinux.0 are in /srv/tftp. I'm using atftpd and DHCP. Booting my diskless node runs initrc and linux. The IP address is correctly assigned based on the dhcpd.conf file. The suse install GUI is started. When it runs "Probe hard disk" a popup appears with "Error - no hard disk found". When it gets to Suggested Partioning it says "No automatic proposal possible". I can manually assign /srv/tftp/pxelinux.cfg to / but then it says "bootloader cannot be installed on NFS partition". Then the install fails. I've tried this with SusE 11.1 and 11.2, with the same results. Is there a simple option in the default file that I'm missing? Do I need a ramdisk? Do I need to recompile the kernel to get support for NFS booting? What do the "class pxe" and "class "etherboot" entries in dhcpd.conf do?

I am still in the process of rebuilding my laptop with openSUSE 11.2 x86-64. I downloaded a large application tar.gz extracted 500M of app to disk copied it to cd with K3B and verified the cd. I then deleted the tar.gz. I browsed the CD with dolphin (/media/expc/.... I then start a terminal su to root cd /media/expc and get an error stating the the file or directory does not exist or is inaccessible. If I go back to my own account I still can't cd to /media/expc. From /media ls -l lists expc as being readable by everyone and in any case I can browse it with dolphin.
The CD is fine. I mounted it by hand on /mnt as root and then installed the application without problem. Going back to the original way of loading and mounting the cd reproduces the problem

I am not able to install 11.3 x86_64 on an OCZ 120 GB Agility 2 SSD. I receive a system error -3030 when it tries to format the drive. If I use go into rescue mode and either format or partition the drive, the installer crashes.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to test 12.1 M5 on my real hardware, so I have special for this purpose two additional partitions (sda2 (to install milestone) and sda3 (to store installation ISO files)). I am running my stable 11.4 with Grub on sda1.
I do not like to burn DVDs just for short test of one milestone, so I was used to download DVD ISO, to unpack it to sda3 partition with all its files, then I changed Grub to boot install Linux from sda3. Installation complains there is no DVD or CD, then I chose to force installation from hard disk and select sda3 partition and select root directory "/". As I was used to from 11.4 this will start installation as it would be started from DVD.
But I think the problem has appeared since 12.1, where I get message: No repository found. (on sda3 / ), so the installation does not start.
I know this is not official way to install openSuse, but it worked before, and it was fast and easy for me, to install from hard disk.

After a disk crash I reinstalled openSuSE 11.2 and as always downloaded the latest Nvidia driver for my geforce 8200 graphics.
Unlike all previous cases, this time the driver does not install. The contents of /var/log/nvidia-installer.log are below. The error refers to being unable to to locate version.h

I am running into a problem with my xen installation. So far I have:
- installed 11.4 64bit
- installed hypervisor and tools (I created br0)
- boot into xen kernel
- run a zypper update
