Ubuntu :: USB Mouse Resets Randomly?
Sep 1, 2010
for the past 3 months ( since I upgraded to 10.04 TLS ), I am getting random USB mouse resets. The glitch lasts for about 1-2 seconds but is very annoying while I am playing a game. ( it also happens at any given moment, web browsing or just plain idle ).
Here is what I could find in both kern.log and syslog files.
Sep 1 17:36:18 homebox kernel: [17561.172517] usb 3-3: reset low speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2

Once in a while, my mouse pointer will just lock up and then when I try to kill the X server by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Backspace on my keyboard, it quits the desktop and it shows my wallpaper. It does not go back to the login screen. How do I fix this problem?

I'm having mouse issues with 10.10.
Equipment: Asus Eee 900, Celeron @ 900 MHz w/ 2 gig memory
Mouse: Rocketfish (but issue replicable with mousepad)
When starting a program, the mouse may randomly not work within that program but does work outside of it, or vice-versa. For instance, when starting the text editor, the OS may not recognize mouse clicks inside the program (within the text editing portion, within the text editors menu bar etc.), but it does recognize mouse clicks outside the program (like clicking on the battery icon for battery status). This could also be reversed, where the OS only recognizes mouse clicks within the program but none externally (including the top status bar where the menu options, battery status, and clock are).
IF the mouse is not working inside the program and I click somewhere externally (like the battery status), this seems to temporarily fix the problem and allow clicking inside the program. However, this seems to switch the problem to where I can no longer click externally. This seems to be the only method of switching which area is selectable by mouse, as I have not found a reverse process. This forces me to close the program using Ctrl + Q instead of being able to click out, because the close button is in the top status bar. This seems to happen pretty much universally. If the program is closed, then I can again click any thing on the main screen, including the top status bar.
I am currently running the netbook without the power supply plugged in. I will repost later when the power supply is connected to see if it makes a difference. At first I thought the netbook was locked up, but the mouse still moves and if the cursor is active in a text editing area it still responds to keystrokes. It's not a disasterous bug, but it's annoying.

I managed to actually get Xubuntu to install, the previous time! Here is what happened. Installation went smooth. Restart.Log on, start Firefox, close it, wait a few seconds, crash.Restarted, it's now in a higher res. Ok, used an xterm to install LXDE. Reboot.Log into LXDE, play around, crash.Restart, repeat, use Firefox, after a while of browsing, crash. The mouse still responds to movement though....The person this was intended for uninstalled it afterwards. (it was with Wubi) I'd like to fix this.

It bounces on and off. No pattern, but mostly off. I have ran it off a live cd and off the hard drive, multiple live cd's and versions of ubuntu. Even a usb mouse does the same thing

some windows fail to react to my mouse clicks (left and right). This has been starting to happen more and more often. However, one window usually stays working normally, while all others fail. Usually, it's the gnome-panel, but one time, this happened to Firefox. During this, I discovered that clicking a window above firefox, would go through the window, and Firefox would recieve it instead, as if the window wasn't there. Even stranger, firefox was not the active window, and all keyboard and mouse commands were received perfectly, however, the window titlebar wouldn't darken as usual. I can still move the mouse around, but when I keep it still for a minute, I see "View your Appointments and Tasks", pop-up, but it sticks to the screen afterward. A reboot fixes this problem, but only for a while. his also occurs when booting from the live Ubuntu 10.10 i386 Desktop Edition CD. I'm using a Logitech Mouse, but I don't believe this has to do with hardware, since this doesn't happen on Windows.

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on other machines before and have not experienced this problem. Occasionally, the system will lock up. They keyboard and mouse stop responding (my keyboard status lights no longer respond, but my optical mouse light is still on). I can ssh to the machine, and it seems to work as normal. I kill processes that are open on my desktop through ssh, (i.e., Firefox), and I notice when I switch back, I still have the same frozen image on my screen. I have looked at the following files to determine any issues with the GPU:

This happens randomly after a reboot: I can move the mouse cursor and it works perfectly only on the Unity sidebar or whatever it's called. I can fire up applications, but once they're up they completely ignore any clicks or mouse movements (the main menu does not appear on the top bar if I move the cursor in the location that usually makes it appear). They only recognise a click on the close/iconize/maximize buttons.
The mouse works: as I said I can move the cursor and it recognises clicks on the sidebar and the window control buttons; plus, it's connected via a KVM switch both to the Linux box and to a Windows box (from which I'm writing this) and in Windows perfectly. The pattern used to be this: usually while running Firefox, the mouse and keyboard stop responding, and sometimes the whole desktop graphics become corrupted. I can Alt+F1 and go to a text-mode console, but nothing short of a reboot "fixes" things. After the reboot, about two times out of five everything works, three times out of five I get the situation described above.
For the last few hours or so, however, no amount of rebooting and sacrificing goats to the gods protecting sociopaths and Linux software developers have been able to restore mouse functionality. I click on my username on the login windowhere it works perfectly), enter the password and then only the Unity sidebar works: again, the mouse cursor moves, only clicks (right and left) are ignored, as are hotspots. In ubuntu classic there is no place where I can click and launch applications, btw - once I get in I'm basically blocked and can't do anything

I have a USB mouse which randomly stop in Debian Jessie. It starts again if I disconnect and connect it again.
It can take a couple of hours or just a couple of minutes. The only thing I've been able to find is that it stops more often when I'm scrolling.
I have tried different mice with the same result. I recently migrated from Ubuntu where I did not have this problem so I doubt there is a hardware error.
I can see the syslog updating every time I connect the mouse but I can't see anything when it stops

I am using Debian with a gnome desktop.
Code: Select alluname -a
returns
Code: Select allLinux app-server 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.65-1+deb7u1 x86_64 GNU/Linux
My desktop sometimes freezes and does not respond to keyboard or mouse. I initially thought the CPU was overheating but it froze tonight when my CPU temperature was 32C and it has been up to 50C without freezing. I am beginning to think it is a software issue rather than a hardware issue but do not know. I looked at the pm-powersave.log and user.log but did not see anything suspicious.

I think my USB mouse randomly suspends, at the very least it freezes. It is plugged into a USB switch, I have to either unplug the mouse and plug it back in, or switch it to a different computer for it to come back, sometimes it freezes within seconds again.
How can I resolve this. I looked at [URL] ...., but had problems following the folder hierarchy.
NOTE: laptop-mode-tools, powertop NOT installed.

I'm running Fedora 12 on a Shuttle SN78SH7. Updates are all current from the Fedora repositories. I'm using the Nouveau driver for the Shuttle's on-board Nvidia graphics adapter. At random intervals (1 to 5 times per day), my USB keyboard and the buttons on my USB mouse stop working and the desktop freezes (i.e. GKrellm graphical data stops updating, partially painted windows don't complete). However, I can still move the mouse pointer around the desktop. This only seems to happen when I am actually using the computer from the console. It has never happened while the system was turned on, but not being used.
When the mouse and keyboard stop working, I can log in from another computer via ssh. Once the computer gets in this state, the only way to fix things is either to reboot remotely using ssh or to cycle power. I've run low level hardware diagnostics - everything checks out OK. This computer only has USB and firewire inputs. No PS2 jacks.

I have an ASUS Zenbook UX31E with Debian testing and LXDE as a Desktop environment. I have a Logitech T630 Mouse that I connect through Bluetooth. When the mouse is paired I can use it properly but I get random keys typed in my desktop such as "1", "2" or "/".I am a regular user of Debian, and I have being using the system for several years now even worked as sysadmin for sometime. However I do not have much knowledge about Bluetooth devices management. I found no information on this issue on the internet and I do not know where too look for more info on my own system. Here is some info I got:
Code: Select all:~$ hciconfig -a hci0
hci0: Type: BR/EDR Bus: USB
BD Address: 74:2F:68:CC:5C:74 ACL MTU: 1022:8 SCO MTU: 183:5
UP RUNNING PSCAN
RX bytes:606 acl:0 sco:0 events:36 errors:0
TX bytes:939 acl:0 sco:0 commands:36 errors:0
[code]....
I have tested "blueman-applet" and "bluedevil" as desktops applets and pairing through console gives same results, so it seems like a problem with the bluetooth communication.

Unfortunately, I've encountered a disaster the likes of which I've never seen before:Yesterday, in slackware 13.1, while using firefox, the window would no longer move or resize, and I could no longer click on things in that window. While this happens, the icons in xfce4 panel no longer acknowledge that the mouse is rolling over them, so I can't launch terminal from a panel, etc.; however I am still able to right click on desktop and open terminal and other apps that way.Since it was high time to upgrade to 13.37, and since I was experiencing weirdness, I decided to do a clean install: I actually repartitioned my drive, and reformatted the partitions (all xfs, and after backing up my data, of course)...
I don't know if that's significant, or not. there seems to be some lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log about my logitech mouse.way too complicated to write by hand.I will log out and back on... sometimes that frees up other windows. Then I'll add the Xorg.0.log.

when I was entering a sed command, with a back-reference to the scnd set of parenthesis. 2 reset X, or so I though ... I did some experimenting, and lo and behold, I could reproduce the behaviour even on the xdm login screen, when I typed in my sed expression as the name. Not every time, not accurately, but maybe 3 out of 10 times I can reset X by pressing 2 on the numeric row in a quick succession with other keys, and the I at first thought was required to trigger the behavior is not necessary at all. Nothing in the X-log, nothing in ~/.xsession-errors.
I'm annoyed, and as X is quite sizable and spawns a truckload of processes I'm highly reluctant to try and reproduce the behaviour under the control of strace (mind you, since it seems to be "speed" related it maybe wouldn't even occur under strace ;}). I'm running Slack64 13.0 on a Thinkpad R500 with an Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics chipset, can't think of anything else that might be special with this hardware in regards to X.

Environmentopensuse: 11.4 x86_64 new install
kernel: 2.6.37.6.0-0.5-desktop
qemu-kvm install
input devices: PS/2 Mouse, EvTouch USB Graphics Tablet
If I just take the mouse and scroll left and right over the desktop, the mouse is "jerky, choppy, randomly freezes, erratic". It occurs all the time. Trying to be more focused and select an object is challenging.
/var/log/messages shows: kernel psmouse.c Explorer mouse at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 1 bytes away Don't know if it is related, but in "Personal Settings" -> "Input Devices" -"Touchpad", there is a "Warning: Touch pad configuration is not supported on this system. ..." I have another virtual machine with the exact same setup running openSUSE 11.2 x86-64, kernel 2.6.31.5-0.1, and the mouse is not "jerky", but I have no wheel support. Comparing logs and config they look alike. I turned off all desktop effects.

basically I set the static ip address:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto seth0
iface seth0 inet static
[code]....
Restart networking:
"sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart"
Everything is fine but 24 hours later the server resets to the DHCP address assigned to it. I have not installed any GUI im just running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS in Hyper V. After it resets to DHCP I log into it using the dhcp address and reset the networking service "sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart". It goes back to the static IP specified in interfaces. I have rebooted several times but every 24 hours it resets.
BTW - Before someone asks about iface seth0 instead of it being iface eth0. It is a Hyper V module running.[URL]

I am having an issue with ubuntu that is driving me slowly mad. When I start the machine there are two keyboard configurations, USA and USA with dead keys, with the latter selected by default. When using punctuation marks I have to hit them twice otherwise they modify the letter I press next. To fix this I simply have to delete the USA with dead keys configuration. However, every time I restart the machine it is back.
Does anyone know why this might be happening? What is the configuration file that ubuntu loads for the keyboard? I am thinking maybe my user doesn't have permission to edit the config file and that is why the changes don't persist past restart. There were some other threads on here with a similar issue however in all of those cases I saw the fix was to make changes to some offending lines in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf. My xorg.conf however does not have a section for the keyboard.
I am running Ubuntu 10.10

I currently have the proprietary drivers for nvidia installed for my gtx 460, nvidia drivers are ver 270.41.06. Ever since I reformatted my computer and got the new nvidia drivers, every time I reboot my resolution goes to something horrible(1024x76 on a monitor capable of 1920x1080. While I can simply change it every boot, it gets quite tedious so I have a script to run on boot:
Code:
xrandr -s 1920x1080
To set my monitor to its proper resolution, the issue is I still have to reset gnome panels etc every time after the resolution has changed the config.
My xorg.conf is as follows:
Code:# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
[Code]...
I have also tried changing the default resolution in the server settings manager and saving the xorg.conf file, but nothing seems to work. Is there any way to change this/has anybody else had the issue? I'm considering going back to an older version of the drivers if that would solve it,
