It bounces on and off. No pattern, but mostly off. I have ran it off a live cd and off the hard drive, multiple live cd's and versions of ubuntu. Even a usb mouse does the same thing

They keyboard and mouse stop responding (my keyboard status lights no longer respond, but my optical mouse light is still on). I can ssh to the machine, and it seems to work as normal. I kill processes that are open on my desktop through ssh, (i.e., Firefox), and I notice when I switch back, I still have the same frozen image on my screen. I'm running Fedora 12 on a Shuttle SN78SH7. Updates are all current from the Fedora repositories. I'm using the Nouveau driver for the Shuttle's on-board Nvidia graphics adapter. At random intervals (1 to 5 times per day), my USB keyboard and the buttons on my USB mouse stop working and the desktop freezes (i.e. GKrellm graphical data stops updating, partially painted windows don't complete). However, I can still move the mouse pointer around the desktop. This only seems to happen when I am actually using the computer from the console. It has never happened while the system was turned on, but not being used.
When the mouse and keyboard stop working, I can log in from another computer via ssh. Once the computer gets in this state, the only way to fix things is either to reboot remotely using ssh or to cycle power. I've run low level hardware diagnostics - everything checks out OK. This computer only has USB and firewire inputs. No PS2 jacks.
When I click once with my bluetooth mouse (Logitech M550b), about one time in three ubuntu receives two clicks.I'm not sure if this is a problem with the mouse or a bug in the OS, but even if it is a problem with the mouse these two clicks arrive at the same time, way too quickly to be a genuine double click.I have searched everywhere (including all the options in gconf-editor) and cannot find where the debounce delay is set for mice. Debounce should ensure that two clicks occurring in rapid succession are interpreted as a single click and thereby solve my problem.
The mouse settings window and gconf-editor both have a setting for 'maximum double click delay', but nothing for 'minimum double click delay' (AKA debounce delay). Does anyone know how I can change the setting so that two simultaneous clicks from the same mouse will be interpreted as a single click?Alternatively, does anyone know of an ubuntu bug which might be causing a single click to be interpreted as two simultaneous clicks? I suspect that the mouse is not the source of problem but have not had a chance to test it on another machine to confirm.I've searched the forum history and found lots of other people having the same problem of phantom double clicks, but nobody has found a solution in any of the previous threads.

When starting a program, the mouse may randomly not work within that program but does work outside of it, or vice-versa. For instance, when starting the text editor, the OS may not recognize mouse clicks inside the program (within the text editing portion, within the text editors menu bar etc.), but it does recognize mouse clicks outside the program (like clicking on the battery icon for battery status). This could also be reversed, where the OS only recognizes mouse clicks within the program but none externally (including the top status bar where the menu options, battery status, and clock are).
IF the mouse is not working inside the program and I click somewhere externally (like the battery status), this seems to temporarily fix the problem and allow clicking inside the program. However, this seems to switch the problem to where I can no longer click externally. This seems to be the only method of switching which area is selectable by mouse, as I have not found a reverse process. This forces me to close the program using Ctrl + Q instead of being able to click out, because the close button is in the top status bar. This seems to happen pretty much universally. If the program is closed, then I can again click any thing on the main screen, including the top status bar.
I am currently running the netbook without the power supply plugged in. I will repost later when the power supply is connected to see if it makes a difference. At first I thought the netbook was locked up, but the mouse still moves and if the cursor is active in a text editing area it still responds to keystrokes. It's not a disasterous bug, but it's annoying.
1. I have some problem with my mouse. It is a logitech revolution (11buttons). I Would like to know where can i configure it? I installed btnx, and i configured it but some program bind 'back' to one of my button. Btnx is working correctly but something changed my buttons details.
2. right click does not work on the desktop
I try to configure mouse click interval since a single click is recognized as double click by doing it from KDE mouse configuration in system settings; but my attempt doesn't work even (I set the click interval to 2 sec, but doesn't change anything). What is the best way to do this in slackware?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago I installed some updates. What they were I don't remember. After I did that my mouse started acting up. Now about half the time when I single click it registers as a double click. Also when I click and drag to select text anywhere it'll randomly do another click screwing up that process.
So far I think the problem is when I press the left mouse button it registers the left click and then when I release, it randomly registers another left click.
The mouse itself works fine if I take it to another PC that's using windows.
OS: Ubuntu 9.10 64bit

View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen i click my mouse on something, it sometimes registers as two clicks. it doesn't happen all the time, but frequently enough to be annoying. for example, when i click a videos video to pause it, it often opens into fullscreen (which you normally click twice to do). also, in the url bar of chromium, i can't select the entire url by clicking. i now need to use ctrl+a. that's also because when i try to select the url, the highlight randomly disappears.
if i have multiple windows open, my click on the first "x" of the top-most window also closes the next window. i'm on linux mint 10. it's not really important, but it drives me crazy sometimes when my mouse doesn't work the way i want it to.

If I normally click the Trash icon either in Kmail or in Evolution more than one mail gets deleted in a sequential order! I have to press the click button extremely light to avoid this problem. I have confirmed this problem is not only with the Email clients but even with most other normal applications too. I have changed my mouse twice but the problem persists. Both were USB mice. I'm using Quicksynergy on my desktop (Ubuntu 10.04) computer as the server and Synergy on my Laptop (Windows XP) which is right beside my desktop.Everything works well for a while, but randomly seems to stop working. When I look into the problem, it seems that its with Quicksynergy on my desktop.I find that I have to quit Quicksynergy and open the system resources application to kill the Synergy daemon (or whatever it is) that Quicksynergy uses.Restarting Quicksynergy after killing the daemon fixes the problem as my laptop always reconnects perfectly fine.Does anyone else have this problem in Ubuntu? I'd like to get this fixed so I don't have to keep killing the synergy process and restarting Synergy.

My wired LAN keeps dropping randomly, average of every 30-60 minutes. Fresh install of 10.10 from iso, Been installed for about 4 days now, just performed system update today, no change.
My router actually completely resets itself. You can watch the lights power off and recycle doing their POST. Absolutely no problems in windows 7 dual boot configuration.
I am no downloading anything, not streaming, not doing anything actually. My computer is completely idle (save for BOINC) and all of a sudden my phone loses the wireless connection which lets me know that my router just reset.
Ubuntu is actually doing this, my wireless stays up indefinitely in windows. Once the router resets, it does automatically reconnect without a PC reboot, but why is it resetting my router?

programs (especially Firefox, though I haven't used other programs much) stop responding rather frequently without warning and after some time they just start responding again. Apt-get also takes ages to unpack stuff when I'm upgrading/installing something, that might be related. According to top there is barely any cpu usage at all during these freezes. I had this issue on a stock Lucid install. When Maverick came out, I tried that one, and the issue still existed. On a fully upgraded Maverick system, it's still there as well. Windows works without a hitch, as does Ubuntu running under a VM on windows.

I am currently troubled with a very annoying problem - the volume level of the PC is jumping higher and lower at random intervals. It makes listening to music very difficult, as at times the music can go from just right to overly loud, just to fall right down so that it is hard to hear. I've only noticed this problem in the past few weeks, and I can definitely say it wasn't an issue in 9.10. This is a fresh install btw, not an upgrade.
Some details:
Using motherboard sound, Realtek HD Audio, iirc. Below is the output of lshw, with the irrelevant parts cut out.code...
I installed Ubuntu as well but was still using the windows loader. I eventually installed Ubuntu Studio when I got another HDD (which is where I installed it). Don't ask me how I did it. As of now no loader automatically pops up. It acts as if there is nothing to boot from. However I can hit f12 and chose which HDD to boot to. On one it comes up with the Windows loader w/ Vista and Ubuntu. I can chose Vista and it works just fine. However if I chose Ubuntu it starts going a lil nuts and restarts. If I chose the other HDD it boots up Grub w/ options of Ubuntu and Ubuntu Studio. Studio works (which I'm currently on) and pretty much the same thing happens as before when I chose Ubuntu. So if the 2 OS's that I need work (Only really use windows for games) then what is the problem? I know its a little bit annoying trying to remember to hit f12 and having to chose your OS again after that (and of course the extremely annoying vista startup times). Some other things in both Studio and Vista don't want to work like they should. This is about the only thing left that I could think of that may have something to do with it. My wireless card+an old wireless card I found won't work w/ either.
Yet they both work on other computers running Vista and/or Ubuntu (not studio). I seem to always keep having display problems on both as well (dual monitors and graphics both). Even on studio I have to restart it sometimes to even get it to let me go fix it. My wireless controller receiver (for games) will stop working randomly and need to be unplugged and plugged back in. I also have problems with Studio recognizing SD cards and DVD/CD's. I am not sure much of anything can be done aside from wipe and fresh install on both. Bad thing is I don't have my other computer with me and can't afford to buy a 1TB HDD right now.
for the past 3 months ( since I upgraded to 10.04 TLS ), I am getting random USB mouse resets. The glitch lasts for about 1-2 seconds but is very annoying while I am playing a game. ( it also happens at any given moment, web browsing or just plain idle ).

Once in a while, my mouse pointer will just lock up and then when I try to kill the X server by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Backspace on my keyboard, it quits the desktop and it shows my wallpaper. It does not go back to the login screen. How do I fix this problem?
View 5 Replies View RelatedUntil yesterday, I used the scroll key, middle click, to open/close tabs at Firfox and chrome, today for some reason is not working any more.
I can roll pages up and down, but at Firefox and chrome i cant open/close the tabs with scroll/middle click.
I checked online and the only fix I found was the safe mode solution, which I don't know how to do this on Ubuntu.
I reinstall Firefox and chrome but same thing happens.
I think its something at about:config. I mess around with it, tried all combination, seems nothing happened there for me, no reaction at any changes.
Kinda noob at Linux so if you could explain any solution like talking to 5yo kid would be appreciated.

I managed to actually get Xubuntu to install, the previous time!Here is what happened. Installation went smooth. Restart.Log on, start Firefox, close it, wait a few seconds, crash.Restarted, it's now in a higher res. Ok, used an xterm to install LXDE. Reboot.Log into LXDE, play around, crash.Restart, repeat, use Firefox, after a while of browsing, crash.The mouse still responds to movement though....The person this was intended for uninstalled it afterwards. (it was with Wubi) I'd like to fix this.
View 6 Replies View Relatedsome windows fail to react to my mouse clicks (left and right). This has been starting to happen more and more often. However, one window usually stays working normally, while all others fail. Usually, it's the gnome-panel, but one time, this happened to Firefox. During this, I discovered that clicking a window above firefox, would go through the window, and Firefox would recieve it instead, as if the window wasn't there. Even stranger, firefox was not the active window, and all keyboard and mouse commands were received perfectly, however, the window titlebar wouldn't darken as usual. I can still move the mouse around, but when I keep it still for a minute, I see "View your Appointments and Tasks", pop-up, but it sticks to the screen afterward. A reboot fixes this problem, but only for a while. his also occurs when booting from the live Ubuntu 10.10 i386 Desktop Edition CD. I'm using a Logitech Mouse, but I don't believe this has to do with hardware, since this doesn't happen on Windows.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis happens randomly after a reboot: I can move the mouse cursor and it works perfectly only on the Unity sidebar or whatever it's called. I can fire up applications, but once they're up they completely ignore any clicks or mouse movements (the main menu does not appear on the top bar if I move the cursor in the location that usually makes it appear). They only recognise a click on the close/iconize/maximize buttons.
The mouse works: as I said I can move the cursor and it recognises clicks on the sidebar and the window control buttons; plus, it's connected via a KVM switch both to the Linux box and to a Windows box (from which I'm writing this) and in Windows perfectly.The pattern used to be this: usually while running Firefox, the mouse and keyboard stop responding, and sometimes the whole desktop graphics become corrupted. I can Alt+F1 and go to a text-mode console, but nothing short of a reboot "fixes" things. After the reboot, about two times out of five everything works, three times out of five I get the situation described above.

I have a USB mouse which randomly stop in Debian Jessie. It starts again if I disconnect and connect it again.
It can take a couple of hours or just a couple of minutes. The only thing I've been able to find is that it stops more often when I'm scrolling.
I have tried different mice with the same result. I recently migrated from Ubuntu where I did not have this problem so I doubt there is a hardware error.
I can see the syslog updating every time I connect the mouse but I can't see anything when it stops

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on an AMD64 computer with an ATI Raedon x1250 graphics card.
Everything runs fine for about 3 hours, then it will randomly stop working.
Symptoms:
Mouse stops moving for 10 seconds.
Screen goes white.
Speakers start repeating last 10 seconds of whatever was playing.
Screen goes orange or purple with lines across it and random symbols...
At that point I hardware restart my computer and all is fine again

just want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. I am trying to stop my left click from moving the window. This is not Meta + Left click but just simple Left click in the area marked with blue. It happens if I Left click drag on the Titlebar as well. I have tried setting 'Nothing' for Meta + Left click setting shown in the image but the behaviour continues.
Is this a bug or can I stop this somehow ?
