Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Transfer Songs And Podcasts To Mtp Player?
Apr 3, 2010I recently installed Amarok v2.3. My Sony Walkman shows up under local collection and I can play songs directly off the Walkman. HOWEVER, I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how I am able to transfer songs or podcasts from my laptop to the Walkman (akin to the old system where you'd right-click on the item you wanted to play and select queue to device, or whatever it was).

Mar 24, 2011As most do now my local library has a decent catalog of audiobooks, which I would like to be able to listen to on my iPod. These books can be downloaded only by using Overdrive Media Console (which is available only for Windows and Mac, and also requires Windows Media Player to work!) and iTunes if you want to transfer to an iPod.
I've searched around for Linux friendly solutions. They fall into two categories, try Wine/virtual machine/dual boot to run the required software, or give up. But pretty much everything I have found is about four years old now. Has anything changed in the last few years, or is this still pretty much the way things are? At the moment I use my girlfriend's Vista computer to download books, but I would like to be as Windows free as possible, and able to do it on my own computer.
Can anyone offer advice for being able to download audiobooks and put them on an iPod, with a minimum of non-Linux software? Relatedly, I would also be quite happy to replace the iPod firmware with Rockbox, but from what I can tell that would make library audiobooks even less accessible (so asking if this is an option is like asking for $10 after being refused $1).
Hardware :: Unbelievably Slow Transfer Rate To IRiver Media Player
Apr 7, 2010I recently purchased an iRiver P7 media player which I am using with Rhythmbox under Ubuntu 9.04. The transfer speed when uploading files to the player is phenomenally slow - the first 50 or so MB reported virtually instantly then the speed immediately drops to about 12-15KB/sec yes KB/sec so a 3-400MB video file takes hours to transfer to the player. This happens with the internal memory and the added memory (SD card) too, althoufg it is faster ror the SD card. No other devices have ever behaved like this on this system (and I have used 2 different Creative players, a different iRiver player and numerous memory sticks). The computer is dual booting with windows (for once that was useful) and under windows it doesn't happen, the speed is as expected so it isn't the hardware. I don't want to have to resort to damned windoze just for this. dmesg after plugging in the player shows it identifying both the internal storage and the added SD card but I don't understand the rest of it:

This last message gets repeated lots of times, and during transfers it seems to be issued continuously and I suppose this is why the system is so slow because it is always retrying loads of times before a success.
General :: Transfer Album Art Images To Cowon IAudio 9 Mp3 Player With System Music Software?
Mar 23, 2011I have got a Cowon iAudio 9 music player and want to display the album art images of the albums on it. The player does support this feature but only when there is a *.jpg file inside of the album folder or the image is embedded into the music file itself (did not tried that).
At the moment I'm using banshee as music management software and I like it. The album art is downloaded automatically for each album and when the player is connected it is beeing recognized and I can drag & drop albums or single songs.
The only problem is that the album art is not transfered along with the albums. The player does support MTP and MSC usb connections and is mounted as removeable usb drive to the system (Ubuntu 10.10). I would be glad if there's a solution to do that with banshee but other software solutions are welcome too.
General :: Sony PSP File Transfer Inaccurate Transfer Progress?
Jan 1, 2010Having a bit of a issue with Debian Squeeze and transferring files to the Sony PSP..Hook up PSP to USB port and Debian mounts it..I go to drag a 125 meg mp4 to video folder..Copy windows takes about 10 seconds to transfer it..Exit USB mode and there is no video there. Go back into USB mode and look at video folder on the PSP memory stick and there is no video..It vanished. From another after copy progress closed I right clicked PSP and unmounted it..
It error-ed saying device was busy and could not unmount..Looking at light on PSP i see memory stick is still being written to..i wait for light to stop flashing..About a minute or so..Then am able to unmount it..Go to PSP video and theres the video ready to be watched. Debian isnt accurately showing the copy progress...Its showing complete when it isnt..I have to watch the light on PSP to know when it is truly finished.
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Amarok And MP3s On NAS?
Jan 31, 2010I would like to play the MP3 files that are stored on my Linkstation NAS through Amarok but I can't get Amarok to play them. The only way I can get the files to play is through Dolphin or to copy them to my local drive and play them from there.
Does anyone know how I can get the files to play through Amarok? I thought it would be easy seeing as I can play movie files from the NAS using Dragon Player and edit photos stored on the NAS using GIMP. Why won't Amarok play ball?

May 30, 2011I have an external hard drive with most of my music on either mp3s or ripped from cds. I have imported the folders into gmusicbrowser but it doesn't show up some of the files. I have also tried rhythmbox and banshee media player but they all have the same problem. The files play fine on my other pc runnin xp pro so they are fine. Also some folders have nothing in under ubuntu but have mp3 files in (as they should) under xp.

May 16, 2010I've installed kubuntu 10.04 recently. I'm following the guide at [URL] to set-up the system. I've installed the kubuntu-restricted-extras package however I do not get any sound while playing mp3s. The sound system is working as I get the kde tune when I start up. I have tried playing mp3s in amarok, audacious, kaffeine and vlc. None of them work.
I opened system settings -> multimedia. It shows four devices and only the one which says 'ALC883(analog)' works in all categories (notifications, music, video, etc etc) when I click test. However sometimes I get a notification saying that the device doesn't work.
Another thing I noticed was that the mp3s play when Dolphin shows a preview of the file when it is selected. I mean that there is a preview part in the right hand part of the window. When I press play there, the mp3s play. But there is no sound when I play movies and mp3s in amarok, audacious, vlc or kaffeine
The motherboard I'm using is Gigabyte M61PME-S2P. Its an nForce 430 motherboard with integrated graphics and sound.

Clicking on the 'Get Media Player' button directs to a web page with: "We're sorry, but the third-party media player required to play the selected media file in your Adobe PDF document isn't available for your system." If I remember correctly Okular on Kubuntu has this capability but is there another way to access (or extract) these files without installing Okular, and its resultant 75 dependencies?

Jan 20, 2010using Slackware 13.0, and whenever i trasfer my files to USB, like copy or cut and paste, it will show as if file transfered in an instant,like click paste and poof.the whole 1 gig file transferred in one second, and it wont show dialog box of transfer process, and then i have to predict some minutes and wait (till the transfer actually finishes, i have to usually see my USB's transfer indicator light), if i plug out before or my prediction goes wrong, i end up with corrupted files. This aint related to window manager, as same is case for KDE and XFCE tried thunar, konqueror, midnight commander, all of em resulted with same problem.

I just recently switched from Ubuntu 10.10 Linux to Fedora 14 Linux. I was able to open, play, and burn CDs with all of my music on Ubuntu, however on Fedora, it is saying that I am missing a plug-in for mp3s, however when I click the button to search for it, it can't find anything.I really need to burn a CD, so I really need a fix for this quick!

Nov 12, 2010I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 to a basic Debian Squeeze system today, and then added xfce4 on top, using only the packages I wanted. I've installed DeaDBeeF 0.4.2 for audio, but can't get it to play mp3 files. It plays musepack, wav and flac but it won't even add mp3s to the playlist. In the add files dialog, "supported sound formats" is selected as the filter, and mp3 files cannot be seen until I filter to "other files (*)".I've installed ffmpeg and mp3s play perfectly in smplayer and mplayer.
Is there something else I need to install to get DeaDBeeF to recognise mp3s, or how could I diagnose this problem? I've searched everywhere but had no luck.

Jun 9, 2010Some (very few) mp3 files on my hard drive seem to self-report incorrect (much too long) lengths to audio players. I mostly use Amarok, but I've verified that the problem also occurs with other audio players. The files play just fine, but it's annoying that they're listed with incorrect length. Most of my mp3s are encoded using VBR, but I can't imagine that that's a problem ... and if it were, it would be occurring with a lot more files, I'd think.I'm guessing there's a problem with the file header itself on these files. Is there some way I can check this and correct it, if that is the problem? A quick check through Synaptic didn't turn anything useful-looking up, and neither did a search through these forums.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on an HP Pavilion dv 6000 with a Centrino Duo processor and 2GB of RAM. I have the Universe, Multiverse, and Medibuntu repositories enabled.

Jun 24, 2009Im running Fedora 11 x86_64. I enabled the rpmfusion repositories (free & non-free) and opened an MP3. The codecs installed correctly, but when I play them in either rhythmnox or totem, it plays but there are issues. Oddly, it depends on whether I ripped the mp3 myself (on Fedora 10, 196kbps CBR) or bought (play.com, 320kbps CBR).For the bought mp3s, the track length is displayed and the progress bar fills as the song progresses, but I cant skip to another part of the song. For the ripped mp3s, the player thinks it is streaming (track length unknown).
I thought it might be due to using ext4, but this happens even if i play them off an ext3 partition. The mp3s themselves are fine - they play perfectly in Ubuntu and WIndows.
