I installed Fedora 10 on a Toshiba Laptop, where I had been successfully running Ubuntu for over a year. The newest iteration of Ubuntu was giving me problems, and the press was saying that Fedora 10 was pretty good, so I tried it.
Fedora 10 froze after any application was loaded. I couldnt correct it. I installed Fedora 9, and am no longer having that problem. However, I cant run any multimedia items on the computer. Particularly videos, including wmv, mpeg, or rm formats. This was not a problem in Ubuntu. I can't find any player or codec that will allow me to play these videos on Fedora 9. Can anyone suggest a solution for this?
I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 to a basic Debian Squeeze system today, and then added xfce4 on top, using only the packages I wanted. I've installed DeaDBeeF 0.4.2 for audio, but can't get it to play mp3 files. It plays musepack, wav and flac but it won't even add mp3s to the playlist. In the add files dialog, "supported sound formats" is selected as the filter, and mp3 files cannot be seen until I filter to "other files (*)".I've installed ffmpeg and mp3s play perfectly in smplayer and mplayer.
Is there something else I need to install to get DeaDBeeF to recognise mp3s, or how could I diagnose this problem? I've searched everywhere but had no luck.
I am using a Dell and Amaork won't play mp3s or anything for that matter. Using v 2.2.0 - Mplayer and others play fine.

Do you know of a like media player other than Rythembox or Banshee?
For some reason, I seem to be getting audio glitches or hick ups when I play my mp3s on Ubuntu 10.10. Everything else works fine. Would this be a hardware or software issue?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've Finally got round to retiring my old laptop which was serving as an XP based music player in the garage while I was working on the cars. Now I have the spare system I've been trying to give it new life with a stripped down OS with the intent of using it to play DVDs. I first tried cutting down the version of XP on it, however that failed, I then tried using ubuntu 10.04 but that was too slow and didn't recognise the peripherals. Then thought I'd give android a go as I had a disk of it literally lying round, but that wouldn't recognise the screen. Finally I've got fluxbuntu installed and it's really nice, now I just need some help trying to get it to do what I need it to.I'm going to have a go now at installing the MP3 and DVD decryption, wish me luck cause I'm a fat lazy windows user and not used to all this typing.Any other tips, hints or advice will be gratefully received.Yes I know I'm probably being overambitious trying to get this to play a DVD but if it doesn't work it gets down graded to MP3 player.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've installed Opensuse 11.4 and even have the multiboot working (at last) and firefox running at more than a snails pace, but this latest problem is really stumping me. I suspect it might be a little more fundamental than just amarok and mp3's but that's where I see it.
So, when I run amarok it asks if I would like to install MP3 support So I click on affermative and, since I added the neccessary repositories, it starts merrily into updating. Then after a few files it his this one:
libqt4-devel-doc-data
98MB. It downloads all the way to 99% and then the transfer rate drops from the 120KB/s I expect to 8B/s for a minute or so nad then it just restarts from 0%. It will do this a few times before offering the opportunity to skip. I did skip and it did a few more files successfully then hung up in the same way. It seems like any file larger than 1MB will not download.
I'm looking for software that will help me transcribe music from MP3 files. I'd like to be able to select a portion of the song, and then have the software play it back to me at a selectable slower speed while correcting the pitch.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed ubuntu and installed amarok and tuxguitar, both of them have no sound. Amarock just skips all the mp3s i want to play, and tuxguitar just plays without any sound, no error message or anything. I ran these both ot of the applications menu, not terminal (I dont know how to run them out of terminal).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed amarok from epel, however the xine-lib in epel does not support MP3 playback. The one in RPMForge does, and I found several instructions that one needs to add both the epel- and rpmforge-repositories to make it work. However when I add both installation failes due to unresolved dependencies. Apparantly epel's amarok does not support rpmforge's xine-lib anymore and insists on installing its own xine-lib

View 9 Replies View RelatedI cannot get AVI videos to play with the Totem movie player that comes bundled with Ubuntu 8.04 on the Dell Mini 9. I keep getting: "Could not determine type of stream." Randomly, one or two of the dozen or so videos on my SD card will work, but most will not. This is very frustrating because all the videos I download are always in AVI format.
I tried used the synaptic package manager find an alternative player and tried MPlayer, but that didn't do anything. I'd just get a blank screen on everything. Using the tutorial in this forum, I got GNOME Mplayer, which also didn't work, but even a video that worked with Totem would only play audio with GNOME Mplayer.
I looked in the repository for video codec updates but didn't see any. What do I do? Is there like a Winamp for Linux? This is a total bummer. I just want to play AVI files that are so commonly used for video.
I "think" I have the right apps installed (but obviously not) but I still can't get the videos to play at the following location. Go here [URL].... choose any video and see if it will play for you. I've tried both FF and Chrome .. using 10.04

On past Thursday i decided to install ubuntu on my laptop and i did it . It is light and healthy (ha ha). Any way, I would like to play AVI, MKV, RMVB, and MP4 videos but i couldn't. I tried a lot of debian packages and drives (i.e. files with .deb extension) but no result except installing RealPlay that i am using it to play mp3 files only.
can you give me some packages to play those files. (I can't connect my laptop to Internet for the time being). In addition, I have Huawei E1750 USB Modem but the system does not recogize it. Is there any way to play those videos and surf the net using the modem in UBUNTU 10.04 LTS.
All the people in all the videos I try on my computer (even in vlc) are blue. and so are a bunch of other stuff. I dont know how to fix this. I tried uninstalling the video card drivers and playing the video. Then I reinstalled it. I also tried it in many different media players. I even tried different codec packages.

View 10 Replies View RelatedEach time I connect to a Mumble server, this appears:Quote: Unable to find matching CELT codecs with other clients. You will not be able to talk to all users. Apparently that is the cause for not being able to hold a conversation on mumble. Nobody can hear me, though I can't specify if I can hear others at the moment. Some googling has led me to this:
Gentoo Bug #293300
media-sound/mumble-1.2.0_beta1 tries to load media-libs/celt-0.7.0 as
"libcelt.so.0.7.0", but the actually installed library is named
"libcelt.so.0.0.0". Thus CELT support in Mumble is supposedly missing, but can
be restored by symlinking libcelt.so.0.7.0 to libcelt.so.0.0.0.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm trying to play some videos with vlc but they are too choppy, I guess my comp is too slow. They are something like 1700x1000 h.264. What can I re-encode these too to maintain good quality but increase playback speed? If possible, an ffmpeg command to do this would be awesome.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently working on a presentation using the Beamer Latex class and I would like to embed a video in the presentation. The problem is that I cannot seem to find a PDF viewer that allows me to play these videos. Does anyone have any suggestions for a PDF viewer that does let me play videos, ideally within the PDF? I've tried using Evince and Acrobat Reader 9, but I've had issues with both. Evince doesn't allow you to play embedded videos in the PDF, but it does allow you to open an external media player by clicking a link. However, this doesn't work in presentation mode, which sort of defeats what I'm trying to do. I know a bug report has been filed on Launchpad for this problem, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
Acrobat 9 also doesn't allow me to play embedded videos. It *does* allow me to open an external player in fullscreen mode, but the video always opens up behind the presentation, which means I have to alt-tab to the video.Kind of unprofessional. I've heard some people have had success with Okular. I'd rather not have to install all the KDE dependencies only to find Okular doesn't work Alternatively, does anyone know of any workarounds for either the issues in Acrobat or in Evince?
