View 5 RepliesI have been in the process of SoundConverter-ing my library to shrink it so it will more easily fit on an SSD. The problem is, it's failed once or twice and so there are about 1700 mp3 files scattered around my Music folder, and there's no easy way to select only them for the GUI mode.
So I have

which, when given a list of files from a first level folder can convert them all, but for some reason fails when handed information from find. I recognize that find is formatting the results incorrectly for soundconverter, I just don't know how to fix it.
I finally managed to get Soundconverter (1.5.3) working under OpenSuse 11.3.Unfortunately it says: "Mp3 encoder is not present",can not convert to mp3I googled but could not find any resolutionp.s.: It seems that I have already codecs installed because the other audio tool I have (Audacity) is successfully converting to anything I want (incl. mp3)

These files are not showing up in the Sansa's menu once they are copied over.One thing I notice is that the file properties display as Type 'Ogg Multimedia File' for the ones that work, whereas the ones from Soundconverter display the Type 'Ogg Audio'

I would like to play the MP3 files that are stored on my Linkstation NAS through Amarok but I can't get Amarok to play them. The only way I can get the files to play is through Dolphin or to copy them to my local drive and play them from there.
Does anyone know how I can get the files to play through Amarok? I thought it would be easy seeing as I can play movie files from the NAS using Dragon Player and edit photos stored on the NAS using GIMP. Why won't Amarok play ball?

I have MP3 files and CUE files. I've tried unsuccessfully to burn a traditional audio CD from them using Brasero (burn image file, point to CUE, it acts like it will, then gives errors). I've searched all over Google and the Ubuntu Forums.

I have imported the folders into gmusicbrowser but it doesn't show up some of the files. I have also tried rhythmbox and banshee media player but they all have the same problem. The files play fine on my other pc runnin xp pro so they are fine. Also some folders have nothing in under ubuntu but have mp3 files in (as they should) under xp.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've installed kubuntu 10.04 recently. I'm following the guide at [URL] to set-up the system. I've installed the kubuntu-restricted-extras package however I do not get any sound while playing mp3s. The sound system is working as I get the kde tune when I start up. I have tried playing mp3s in amarok, audacious, kaffeine and vlc. None of them work.
I opened system settings -> multimedia. It shows four devices and only the one which says 'ALC883(analog)' works in all categories (notifications, music, video, etc etc) when I click test. However sometimes I get a notification saying that the device doesn't work.
Another thing I noticed was that the mp3s play when Dolphin shows a preview of the file when it is selected. I mean that there is a preview part in the right hand part of the window. When I press play there, the mp3s play. But there is no sound when I play movies and mp3s in amarok, audacious, vlc or kaffeine
The motherboard I'm using is Gigabyte M61PME-S2P. Its an nForce 430 motherboard with integrated graphics and sound.
I use mplayer to play my media files. Occasionally I want to take screenshots of media I am playing. I use the -vf screenshot option to take screenshots which generates shotxxxx.png. The issue is that all those png are not compressed and usually large. When dealing with Hi-Def media they are extremely large, each is 4-5 MB in size at the least. Is there a way I can set the option for compression of png images. If I use imagemagick the same files get compressed to like 1.5MB of png file.

I used the script mentioned here [URL] to convert some wma files to mp3 however rhythmbox will not import these. Is this to do with the way they were conveted? Is there a better way or will converting wma to mp3 always result in this? Was going to try soundconverter but I wasn't sure if this would just do the same thing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to rip all my CDs to flac at the lowest compression (space is not an issue) via Banshee. I have tried a few tracks but the seem to be ripped at a higher compression to the ones I have done via sound juicer (set at compression 0)
How do I adjust the flac settings in Banshee to do this? The option to edit the settings is not available for flac? I guess there is a config file somewhere?
I am trying to convert hundreds of BMPs into a single AVI file, without compression. Since every pixel matters in my case, I don't want any kind of compression. It's fine if the output file is extremely large.
I'd like to know if it's possible to achieve this with packages coming with Ubuntu 11.04. I have tried ffmpeg/mencoder, but they either compressed the output file, or the output file is not playable in totem. I am a new user for both tools. there is actually a way to get uncompressed avi from these tools.

I just noticed that after upgrading to 10.04 Lucid Desktop, nautilus no longer plays MP3 files on mouse-over. It does recognize the file as a music file as it displays the music note icon in the comic balloon next to the music note file icon when the mouse is positioned over an MP3 file, however no sound is played.If I double-click the MP3 file, totem is invoked and plays the MP3 file just fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSome (very few) mp3 files on my hard drive seem to self-report incorrect (much too long) lengths to audio players. I mostly use Amarok, but I've verified that the problem also occurs with other audio players. The files play just fine, but it's annoying that they're listed with incorrect length. Most of my mp3s are encoded using VBR, but I can't imagine that that's a problem ... and if it were, it would be occurring with a lot more files, I'd think.I'm guessing there's a problem with the file header itself on these files. Is there some way I can check this and correct it, if that is the problem? A quick check through Synaptic didn't turn anything useful-looking up, and neither did a search through these forums.

I foolishly did some editing to tracks on my Macbook. I didn't know that the changes are not apllied to the actual MP3s. So what I had wanted to do was to take the songs and copy them back to my desktop. But the edited tags don't move with them. Anyway to move song plus tags?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI finally got K9copy to work and I'm using it to extract DVDs to my hard drive. I extract a dual layer DVDs it becomes a 5GB DVD. In the settings, I have DVD size as 9GB because I assumed this would not cause any compression. When I use k9copy assistant to change the shrink factor before ripping, I can only change the shrink factor of some titles to 1.67 from 2.50. I want the shrink factor to be 1 since this seems to ensure that the output of the file is the same size as the title on the dvd. I want the copied DVD to be the same size as the original. I have no problem with hard drive space since I have 6 terrabytes of free space.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm head engineer for a community radio station. One of our compressors has recently died and I want to replace it with software compression on our streaming machine. I've been looking at VST/LADSPA/JOST etc and I've got nothing but confused. Hence I'm coming here looking for help.
My spec is this. We need a system to run a compressor and EQ, probably a graphic and a parametric. The compressor needs to be multiband and have proper control of the compression curve. A way of configuring it without too much command line work would be an advantage. All needs to run on an Ubuntu server with not massive overhead as it's not exactly the latest hardware. I suspect it would be possible to run WINE for windows requiring VSTs if needed.
I was hoping some of you good people might be able to point me in the direction of a suitable host and plugins to achieve the effect described.
I've installed Opensuse 11.4 and even have the multiboot working (at last) and firefox running at more than a snails pace, but this latest problem is really stumping me. I suspect it might be a little more fundamental than just amarok and mp3's but that's where I see it.
So, when I run amarok it asks if I would like to install MP3 support So I click on affermative and, since I added the neccessary repositories, it starts merrily into updating. Then after a few files it his this one:

98MB. It downloads all the way to 99% and then the transfer rate drops from the 120KB/s I expect to 8B/s for a minute or so nad then it just restarts from 0%. It will do this a few times before offering the opportunity to skip. I did skip and it did a few more files successfully then hung up in the same way. It seems like any file larger than 1MB will not download.
All my photos saved on digikam are subjected to compression. Is there any way to go around this in the program?

Amarock just skips all the mp3s i want to play, and tuxguitar just plays without any sound, no error message or anything. I ran these both ot of the applications menu, not terminal (I dont know how to run them out of terminal).
