I managed to delete the Volume Applet that appears by default on the task bar. I'm sure it used to be listed in 'Add to Panel' in other version of Ubuntu however I can't see it there in 10.04.
Can someone explain to me how I get it back?
I use Lucid with Gnome. I lost the volume applet on the top panel. I tried to search for it under "Add to panel...", but couldn't find it.

The new 11.04 has Banshee in the sound adjustment icon... even if it was uninstalled. Is there any way to go back to having rhythmbox controller in the sound applet?

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday while trying (unsuccessfully) to get a new Bluetooth dongle set up I lost the network manager applet. When I rebooted, after giving up on Bluetooth in Ubuntu, I had no way of connecting to my wireless network. In command line (iwconfig & iwlist scan) I was able to see the wireless router. So the wireless card is working correctly. How do I reinstall the network manager applet? Oh even when use a wired connection to the router there is no connection.

but the icons are not visible
the only way that I can make the visible is by typing code...
for volume control.. Only then they become visible in the notification area

i have noticed that if vista is not the active partition, hybernate does not work. it just goes black and then back to the user icon screen to log back in. another "slight" problem was that i was not able to apply a service pack. after restoring vistas dominance i was able to install the pack. is there any other work arounds for hybernate? even though you might not be interested in cleaning up after microsoft.
View 1 Replies View Relatedinstalled F12 and noticed that the volume control applet is now all Pulseaudio rubbish, not Alsa like gmixer used to be. So now I don't seem to be able to mute my speakers when I'm using my headset, which in F10 I could do by just muting LFE/Center.Note I don't want the speakers to be disabled when I have the headphones plugged in (like Jack does) I just want to be able to control volume of the mixer channels individually - as sometimes I'll be playing music through the speakers and will receive a Skype call and want to mute the music, but also don't want the Skype sound coming out of the speakers - just the headphones.
I've tried setting up 4.1+input, 5.1+input, 4.0+input etc; but for some reason, even though the PulseAudio mixer thing has 5 individual sliders, they do nothing as they "jump" back to 100% when you slide them - even with the channels unlocked. gmixer and alsamixer do the job, but pulseaudio is the applet and only seems to control the master volume, not the individual channels. Any ideas - or perhaps a way to make gnome-volume-control revert back to actually being gmixer?

I use a mac at work and use time machine to back up to an external hard drive which i take home each day. I wish to back up the time machine back ups off the external hard drive each day to my computer at home just to be safe is this possible?
I have managed to open the hard drive and have enabled view hidden files so i can see all the files but i am unable to copy them due to permission errors
I,m using Ubuntu 10.10 with Gimp. Ive got a lot of photos etc and need to back these up. Can I anyone suggest a good backup solution which does not require e to keep copying the same files? IE: Once the files are backed up I only want to back the files used since last back up?
View 11 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to default volume to 100% in the terminal with gnome-volume-control-applet or any other program? I am setting up a dedicated Zsnes machine which boots into Fluxbox but the volume is muted by default. There isn't a man page for gnome-volume-control-applet.
When I log into Gnome the volume is set to 100%, but Fluxbox is always set to mute.
I recently installed language packs for Japanese and changed my system language to it, too. The problem is, now that I try to go back to English, the locale doesn't change back, only the menus are in english. "Apply system wide" in the Language Support didn't do anything; Firefox is in japanese too. Here is my locale output:

At the same time, the taskbar applet (showing up under the mail icon), makes it much more integrated than just installing a random standalone application.

If I go to system/preferences/sound I get the error: Waiting for sound system to respond and nothing happens. If I go into command-line and try running gnome-volume-control-applet, I get the error: WARNING **. connection failed, reconnecting.. this goes on without any further resultAnyone got any ideas? the sound is working.. I just have no volume control other than the one on my speakers
