Ubuntu :: Default Panel, Deleted Some Items By Mistake, Can't Find Them To Put Back?
May 23, 2010
I was playing around with the default panel that has the power icon (wrong lingo maybe) and the network/sound icons, etc.I deleted some items including the power icon and now for the life of me can't find it in the panel applets list in lubuntu. Is there a way to restore the default panel with the settings as when I first installed lubuntu.I also played with some spacings and other settings so would rather just get it back to normal/restore it vs add all the items back on and then play with the spacings again.
I deleted my taskbar panel. How can I get it back? I prefer to use a dock, and so I'm using Cairo-dock, and because of this, I deleted my taskbar panel, and I was just wondering how I would get it back, if I ever wanted to.
I'm new to Linux and Fedora. I installed Fedora a short while ago and inadvertently deleted the top panel that lists the applications, files, etc. How can I get this back? I can't even access the terminal because that was listed under applications.
I am running Fedora 12 with Gnome.I stupidly deleted the default Gnome Panel from my desktop.By the 'default' Gnome panel I basically mean the default one that is installed whenever you first install Fedora 12.
I accidentally deleted the default icons in the gnome panel on the top right. I tried to get them back from the add to panel. I went through every program I could, but none of the original programs were found. I'm running fedora 13.
I didn't delete the whole panel, but just the bit where it shows icons of currently running programs. So now when Ktorrent, Kalarm or Desktop Drapes are running I can't see their icons on the panel and I can't find how to add the thing I've deleted from the "Add to Panel" menu. Anyone know how to get it back?
Very n00b question. Am running lucid alpha 3 and while just checking it out i deleted the group icon which looks like a msg on the top right bar (the one that grouped the empathy and gwiber account)
Have tried multiple ways but its getting to the older setting
do i have to reset the panels to their defaults to get it corrected or is there any other way
I messed up with panel on kde 4.3 I lost wifi knetwork manager and some other stuff I want to reset to factory default kde 4.3 panel I googled it but found solutions for kde3.5 which are not working with kde 4.3please let me know how can I get back panel
Environment: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic, 64 bit I was doing some maintenance on the machine and tried to delete everything under /var/lib/hudson. By mistake, I deleted everything under /var/lib. I know, I know, I must have taken an extra dose of stupid pills. Questions: Is there any way to recover without a full rebuild of the machine? Could I install Karmic to a VM, install all the same packages, and then copy over the /var/lib directory? Maybe a better question to start off is, which directories need attention (and what type) and which directories are not needed? Very soon before the delete, I did a directory listing in /var/lib. Here is what was in there:
I was trying to sort out some problems I was having with synaptic and in a <sarcasm>slash of brilliance</sarcasm> I renamed my libc.so.6 to something else. Since then any command I type throws up:Code:apt-get: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryI can't get anything done. Nautilus/package manager/nothing fires up.
By mistake i deleted the /usr/bin/dpkg.exe file. Now i am unable to install anything .when i tried to install ssh i got the following error message. Reading package lists.DoneBuilding dependency tree Reading state information... Doneopenssh-server is already the newest version.openssh-client is already the newest version.0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 386 not upgraded.2 not fully installed or removed. After this operation, 0B of additional disk space will be used.Could not exec dpkg!E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (100)
had upgraded from slackware 13 to 13.1 and finally 13.37.After this I noticed that 'dmesg' could only be executed as root. So inorder for a user to execute 'dmesg' I executed 'ln -s /bin/dmesg /usr/bin/dmesg'.What happened next is the symlink was created but the dmesg executable was deleted.I do not want to reinstall the OS (very time consuming on a P3 with 512MB RAM) so I want to know which package provides dmesg so that I can reinstall it.The dmesg man page indicated that klogd will provide the package but then when I reinstalled it it was a no go.
I was accessing my box externally (ssh) and accidentally deleted my crontab. I never used crontab before and issued the command "crontab -d" instead of "crontab -e" to edit and add my cronjobpretty useless because I had no back up of my crontab of course First question, is there going to be any direct issue on my box because of the crontab being erased ? (I am assuming so but do not know what type of problems..) Lastly, would I be lucky enough so that there is a way to recover my crontab ? (having gone through Google and whatnote, I doubt it)
I screwed up and deleted my top panel and I cannot figure out how to bring it back to the original default settings. After trying different things found in other posts like
restart X, then in console: gnome-session-remove gnome-panel gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/panel gnome-panel &
now both top and bottom panels are gone. I need help to bring both panels back. I'm on jaunty jackalope 9.04.
I cannot boot into by Ubuntu 9.1 machine.... Trying either GUI or rescue mode gives me the following error messages (which i copied by hand since they were in cli)
Code: mount : mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/64e5cb0d-058a-4a4c-af4b-7afb6427a72e3 on root failed : invalid argument
mount : mounting /sys on /root/sys failed : no such file or directory mount : mounting /dev on /root/dev failed : no such file or directory mount : mounting /proc on /root/proc failed : no such file or directory
Target doesnt have /sbin/init The only thing i remember doing before this is deleting some bootloader files... but they were on another disk so I didn't think that it would affect my ubuntu install. Guess I was wrong how I can recover my system?
Every time after I boot up, I have to follow the info at URL...Do you have any ideas on to make sure that I do not have to do that almost every time I boot up?
I'm using Evolution, latest version for Linux. For some reason, I can't get the deleted items folder in the mail view to expunge. Is there some reason why emptying the trash suddenly doesn't work? It worked for the first few days of using Evolution, but now it just doesn't work -- the deleted items just stay there.
Here's the error message: Error storing '~/.evolution/mail/local/Handle Later (mbox)': Error storing '~/.evolution/mail/local/Sent (mbox)': Error storing '~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox (mbox)': Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync
I have somehow managed to eradicate all of my films and music...I was going to update my external HDD (typical) and so I highlighted everything and went to drag it. My finger kind of slipped while the cursor was in the the same folder and I got a message saying something like:"Source file is in this destination. Cannot move. Do what?"There's me thinking not much can go wrong at this point so I clicked "Skip all".Everything disappeared
The file system says there's still only 500GB free on my 1.5TB, so the files are there but I just can't see them.how I can get them back? There's nothing in my 'Deleted Items' and I had a play with scalpel and PhotoRec and I either couldn't get them to work or they said they'd take way more time than I have.
Edit: Where did that smiling devil come from? That's really not how I feel right now.
i'm currently using the claws mail rssyl plugin to manage my rss feeds, but i have two issues with it:
1) when i delete an rss item it reappears when i refresh the feed 2) when i mark all posts of a feed as read, a little while later (for example) 5 of the 20 items become new/unread again. these unread items are random (not the latest posts)
the only pattern i can see (regarding issue #2) is that it only affects feeds hosted on videos. i'm thinking of finding a different application to manage my rss feeds, but it is nice to have email and feeds in once place.
I am missing the are on the top bar that u can click on to get to chat and email and inbox and compose a message it just went missing all of a sudden and it was a super help to have because im always sending mail and getting chats and now i can look at picture.
I have a bit of a minor niggle with ubuntu 10.04. The items in my top panel seem to rearrange themselves at random whenever i logout and then log back in again. For example, i normally have indicator applett session in the top right hand corner of my screen, but if i logout and log back in again it has occasionally jumped across to the left of the active panel items.
I have a very annoying problem. I cannot move any panel items to the upper right hand corner... But I can move them to any other panel, right or left.I right click the item. Then I click Move. Then I click the upper right hand corner. Then nothing happens, except if there is a group of buttons side-by-side then the right-clicked item will move to the far right of the group
