View 2 RepliesBefore I get into this, here is a pic:
At the top there is a bar that goes all the way across and it will not go away. I can't click on it to remove it. I reset gnome and it still stayed. The weird part is that it only stays on Desktop1 but not on 2,3, and 4. How do I get rid of this because it is annoying?
I just installed 10.04 and am really impressed I am enjoying it more then win 7 and mac osx. The integration of social networking from the top panel was one of my fav features however my niece got hold of my laptop and deleted it and I cant figure out how to restore it along with all of the features. I dont want to have to reinstall now after finally getting everything where I wanted it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed 10.04, I got rid of the messenger applet from the panel at the top since I always used webmail. I found a way to have the messenger applet automatically check and display new emails, but now I don't know how to add the applet back. Its icon looked like an envelope. I've tried the add to panel command, but don't see that one listed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI followed some badly-spelled online instructions to get rid of the last panel (because I'm using Avant Window Navigator instead), which had me do this: Ok some people realize that the gnome panel in ubuntu is very annoying and if your like me you dont want it there anymore, so you wnat to get rid of it (only suggested if you have something like AWN ), ok first push alt+f2, then in that type gconf-editor inside of it. Now in that a box should apear. Click on apps, thenGnome, then session, then required sessions. Then there should be a file called gnome -panel right click it then choose edit, then make it empty. then save it press ctrl+alt+delete, then it should not be there but if it is run killallgnome-panel, and to run it again type in gnome-panel. I did it, and now I cannot startup. ( I just get a 'busy' cursor on a blank screen.)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI didn't delete the whole panel, but just the bit where it shows icons of currently running programs. So now when Ktorrent, Kalarm or Desktop Drapes are running I can't see their icons on the panel and I can't find how to add the thing I've deleted from the "Add to Panel" menu. Anyone know how to get it back?

View 1 Replies View RelatedBroadcast Accounts...' and 'Ubuntu One...' from under the username menu on the top panel So it went from Screenshot2.jpg to Screenshot.jpg. (The first screenshot is from my laptop which works perfectly - just to demonstrate what I want my desktop (on the right) to look like)I have no idea how I did it, but have spent all day trying to get the buttons back, downloading many applications (and learning a lot about customising gnome!) but to no availEDIT: I've also noticed that the 'Synchronize on Ubuntu One' option when you right click on files and folders does not exist on the desktop pc
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was playing around with the default panel that has the power icon (wrong lingo maybe) and the network/sound icons, etc.I deleted some items including the power icon and now for the life of me can't find it in the panel applets list in lubuntu. Is there a way to restore the default panel with the settings as when I first installed lubuntu.I also played with some spacings and other settings so would rather just get it back to normal/restore it vs add all the items back on and then play with the spacings again.

owner@owner-desktop:~$ gconftool-2 shutdown
owner@owner-desktop:~$ rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel

my files on the desktop, in my home directory went missing. Also looking at my harddrive it seems like it has completely wiped out my content.I had some important files on my desktop and I am wondering if there is any way to get them back? It doesn't reasonable that all my files were deleted during a panel restore, maybe they are hiding under a rock somewhere . the system I am running it on is: Ubuntu 10.04
I searched the forum with various terms and didn't find anything, so my apologies if this is a common and/or newbie problem. It seems that when I have a USB driveplugged in to switch the files around, those that I delete are still taking up space. I first noticed it with a Chinese MP3 player and thought it was the player being crappy. I could still play all the songs that were supposedly gone. Today, I noticed it with a little thumb drive that I've had for years. I plugged it into my husband's computer running winXP, and the files showed up in a weird, unusable form. I was able to delete them for real.
