Having just upgraded, I am having this exact problem.
I've just installed 11.3 on my mother's laptop. I downloaded and installed Swiftfox, but there's no evidence of it in the menu. I can double-click the Swiftfox.desktop icon in /usr/share/applications, and Swiftfox runs properly. However, it's not listed in the KDE menu.Is there a way to manually update the menu?I didn't have this problem with the previous version of openSuse on this computer. But I did a fresh install, rather than update to 11.3.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSwiftfox does not have default file handling, and thus I cannot open files from the download menu. When I go to choose the program I want to open the file with, it just takes me to my Home folder in Nautilus. I have no idea where to find the programs I need (Image Viewer, Open Office, and Movie Player are the main ones I need).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have little problem with NetworkManager. This problem begin when I upgraded Debian Etch to Lenny.
When I right-clicked nm-applet in Debian Etch, I get this dropdown menu where was button "Edit Connections..."
Now in Lenny there is only "Edit Wireless Connections" button. So I can't edit my wired connections anymore.
I know I can just edit /etc/network/interfaces file to set my IP, but I need about 20 different IP:s at work, so that is just stupid do it that way...
First time this has happened. I installed Fedora first (XP already installed) and then installed Ubuntu 9.10 64. Fedora doesn't show up on boot up menu. I've tried update-grub.
Before I would have just edited menu.lst, but now?? I dunno.
edit; Here's fdisk with Fedora on sda6
I am running Fedora 13 with the nvidia blob for OpenGL hw acceleration, everything x86_64. I have spent a couple of days trying to get either Morrowing (TES3) or Oblivion (TES4) working under wine, unfortunately without success.
I have tried several flavors of wine: 64-bit wine from the fedora 13 repo, 32-bit wine from the fedora 13 repos, 32-bit wine 1.3.2 built from source. In all cases, running either of the games I get the same error (using WINEDEBUG=+d3d): "Direct3D requires OpenGL support." Appareantly wine d3d layer can't access to the nvidia OpenGL driver, and therefore d3d is disabled within wine -- making the two games not to start up.
I have tried looking around for a solution, but in all cases I found the root of the problem was missing OpenGL support / missing drivers. This is not my case; I use OpenGL everyday, and hardware acceleration is clearly supported in my configuration (confirmed with `glxinfo | grep direct`).
I think that wine might have problems accessing the 64-bit ogl drivers, but I don't know how to confirm it, and even less how to solve it. Clearly, installing Windows is not an option
I have a gateway laptop that I have attempted to dual boot, but the computer only sees the Ubuntu OS and the Vista Windows Recovery Partition. (Actually, gnome reports 3 separate Ubuntu OSs... part of the problem?)
When I type fdisk -l, I get the following message code...
I am trying to fill out this PDF form:
http://www.math.washington.edu/Grads...mentalform.pdf
In Document Viewer, I can click on the fields and type in them, but after spending about 2 hours writing descriptions of courses, I saved it and... it closed the document I was working on, and loading the document I saved resulted in empty fields that could no longer be edited at all - clicking on them did nothing - it looked like a blank form, except it was also broken.
Is there any way I can actually fill in this form...
I just upgraded to Natty this weekend, so don't have much experience with Unity yet. I tried to create a launcher, which starts an application on a VMware virtual machine using vmware-unity-helper (lot's of unity here .
Anyway, so I created the launcher, e.g. MS Project code...
The Exec command is just a little python script, which checks whether the VM is running and then executes the vmware-unity-helper command with the correct path and all.
The launcher works, when I double-click in in nautilus. But when I drag'n'drop to the unity bar and click it nothing happens. I pulses some (as if the application would start) but nothing happens.
I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 and suddenly when I click on email links in Firefox, Thunderbird isnt launched to write an email. How do I correct this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Linux, trying it out as an alternative to Windows. I have created a bootable pendrive which had been working, but when I rebooted the 'Ubuntu' splash screen was larger, blockier than normal, then I am presented with a purple screen with nothing on it. Not sure if it is frozen, cannot do anything at this stage, desktop doesn't launch.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using 11.04 with the old panels, no side panel. For some reason gnome-panel doesn't launch automatically so I have to do it via terminal, which means I have to keep the terminal tab open if I want to keep my panels.
Adding it to startup programs resulted in invisible panels (Cannot register the panel shell: there is already one running.), which I bypassed by typing gnome-panel --replace. I would like a permanent solution though..
I am a newbie in Linux and have only been recently using it. I have faced a problem with my the firefox browser launch. Recently there was a update (to generic version 2.6.32.24) after which the browser fails to start. It gives the message starting Firefox web browser and then dies off. I tried searching for some already posted answers but couldn't find much.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed xmms2 from the packman repo. I doesn't show up in the launch menu. If I try and start it from the CLI I get the following

I was trying to make uDev let me mount and unmount devices from my Xfce desktop... I installed udiskie, modified fstab, and finally got it working, but somewhere in the process, my terminal emulator just... died. Now, when I try to launch it, I get this error message: "" (I think I can translate that as Failed to execute child... process? not quite sure) "getpt failed: Not such file or directory." So far, I've been looking but couldn't find anything similar anywhere. also: this happens with all the terminal emulators I've tried (Terminal, gnome-terminal, sonata), except for xterm... which does just nothing: doesn't launch or send error messages.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed kinternet from a repository and when I enter Menu -> Applications -> Internet, there is no kinternet application.
I need this, to display the icon in the tray bar, so I can see if Internet is connected or not, and if it isn't I connect clicking on the icon.
I installed fluxbox on an Ubuntu 9.10 server installation and then I installed swiftfox. I used to be able to run swiftfox as a regular user but now swiftfox only starts when I type in a terminal
Quote:
sudo swiftfox
how I can run swiftfox as a regular user again? By the way, I also get this problem with firefox.
I have a MSI a6000 Laptop (that has given me a lot of problems installing Ubuntu.
I finally had to run Ubuntu from a CD in nomodeset
Then when I go to install Ubuntu the only options it gives (regarding my harddrive) are to format my whole hardrive or do the partitioning. I have seen screenshots though where there is a third option on the same page to install ubuntu alongside a prior OS and dual boot.
Does anyone know why the "install alongside a prior OS (dual boot)" option doesn't show up?
I have a strange problem with Swiftfox. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with Swiftfox 3.6, and OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.6.1). I can not get Swiftfox recognize the JRE plugin. I have a symlink at /usr/lib/swiftfox/plugins/ that points to /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.15/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so and still Swiftfox would not recognize my JRE. The same symlink is at /usr/lib/mozulla/plugins
View 5 Replies View Relatedwhere's the nautilus app that i want to use to link to the "open containing folder" option within the download menu. For some reason it's as if it's completely forgotten it. After searching for nautilus, i didn't see one single file that looked like it was the main part of nautilus to link to, there was a myriad of files to choose from and i thought it'd be better to ask here and quicker than to try each one out myself.

View 9 Replies View RelatedJust installed swiftfox on my Fedora 12. i open it and so no to make default browser, then it just closes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAnyone else notice that the recent updates have trashed Swiftfox? Here's the error message: Quote: MozPlugger: Error: Too many types (32) for handler 22 (application/vnd.sun.xml.writer:sxw:OpenOffice Writer 6.0 documents)
Opera, Seamonkey and Firefox all work fine and if I open Firefox and then open Swiftfox, it's working just fine, so apparently FF handles the OpenOffice, etc., issues for it. It still fails if you have opened Seamonkey or Opera first.
But I couldn't find a modified version of it for Swiftfox anywhere, so I decided to modify it myself. But I'm not 100% sure that I did it correctly, so I thought I'd ask here.
Also, will Swiftfox 3.6.4 be able to use this same profile? I thought it might not because of the new "Out of process plugins" feature being added.
So i downloaded swiftfox and its great. its just not loading downloads with the specified applications when i click them, i.e. opening .deb, .jpg, .txt, it asks me to chose an application (list is empty, so you have to set a custom application)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI enabled java and flash in Iceweasel 3.5.16 via the related/required packages in the repository so flash-nonfree (or whatever it is) and the related java one. I didn't install either flash or java manually so no plugins that way. Flash and java works in Iceweasel. If I wanted to try Swiftfox, what do I do? I have it installed but both flash and java don't work.
I assume that one has to do the manual installs for both so go to both Flash and Java official sites and install the related Linux package. Will this conflict with my Iceweasel-based java/flash packages? Or do they go in separate directories and files? I don't want a conflict or interference and thus, don't want to break what's working.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer won't boot up from the installed version of Ubuntu. I was running 8.04 with no problems, but it stopped working after entering a command code to fix the limit for virus definitions on Avast. I removed the code, but now on boot up all I get is a blank screen and blinking cursor.
I can boot up with an Ubuntu 9.1 live disk, and it shows the installed version of Ubuntu and all my data are still there. Is there a way to do a general repair, that will enable my computer to boot up from the installed operating system?
