I recently installed kinternet from a repository and when I enter Menu -> Applications -> Internet, there is no kinternet application.
I need this, to display the icon in the tray bar, so I can see if Internet is connected or not, and if it isn't I connect clicking on the icon.
This has probably been asked about before.... I would like to start apps in desktop 2, 3 and 4. To start apps during boot, I use two different methods: The .xinitrc file in /home/dan works fine under: "Add your own lines here..." Startup Applications in Gnome | System works well as well. Here, I can enter nautilus /dir and nautilus starts up just fine in that directory. But as I mentioned, I have yet to find a way to direct the program to run in a different desktop other than #1.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Crossover Office Pro (full release) which I used on previous version of opensuse, but now it is installed on opensuse 11.4 64 bits. The installation is fine, but the problems begin when I try to launch the application to install windows software.
I get this output:

i.e. in terminal
firefox -minimized [URL]
That opens firefox but does not minimize...
2. Also, is there a command option to add the application to the system tray?
How do I make an application launcher in the panel launch more than one application? Is there some sort of a symbol I type between the apps in the command line? Like ;

Autostart kinternet with Gnome?
I recently switched desktops. Kinternet connects fine with Gnome, but it doesn't start up with Gnome. I tried putting kinternet into the Gnome startup, but kinternet errors when it starts.
I got autostart working on 11.2/gnome, but I've switch to kde4.3.1. Duncan on the kde list suggested to manually save a session, but in the session manager there's not a clue how to manually save a session. In gnome I wrote a shell script to start kinternet, but the script has to start after smpppd. That script starts too soon in kde4.The reasoon kinternet doesn't start with the "restart on login" box, is a kde3 app. I have already tried kinternet --kicker, but apparetly kicker starts before smpppd. The script I wrote starts kinternet but with this error:
Error - KInternet Connection to local and remote server refused. Maybe smpppd is not running or you are not member of the group "dialout". Also check the server settings in the dialog "Various Settings". OK
The error to the calling shell looks like this:

I do need KInternet to connect. Although if in the KInternet preferences I selected that KInternet should load automaticly at startup/boot, this just this doesn't happen. A workaround is possible, by placing an alias of KInternet on the desktop and clicking on that one after startup. However, couldn't I get it to load automaticly like it worked under 11.1 / KDE 3.5 ?

Is there another program that I can use to connect to the repos so that I can get kinternet? View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE 11.3 under 2 machines, one of them using a Linksys USB wireless N adapter (rt73usb) and another using an Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (ath5k). I have a Belkin f5D8236-4 router, with the SSID "linksys". I also have an Ubuntu 10.04 machine which has working wireless internet. I know almost nothing about networking, but from what I can tell, openSUSE 11.3 seems to have trouble with DHCP, specifically setting the dynamic IP address. To try to go about fixing this, I attempted to set a static IP, but I am quite confused by all the settings.
I have tried both the graphical "Network Manager" (KDE, Gnome, and command line versions) and ifup, both with no luck.

I have installed the cups-pdf package from the opensue 11.2 site and found an second printer in the config page od cups. I tried to print to this PDF called printer, but the cups-pdf printer doesn't create any files or user dirs in the default spool directory /var/spool/cups-pdf. CUPS respoces that jobs finished without errors. I have no idea what I made wrong. code...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to openSUSE and yesterday I managed to multi-boot successfully with version 11.1 for 64 bit processor (live cd).I have a MultiTech multimodem-usb (MT5634ZBA-USB)and have it running fine in two other LINUX distros using KPPP as well as wvdial. To try and get it working in SUSE, I went to YaST administrative tools for network devices (I think that was section, as I have to recall from memory or write it down since I can't connect from openSUSE, so bear with me) and chose modem and it detected the modem correctly as ttyACM0. My isp uses a dynamic address, and that is what is ticked in ISP information. Default Route is also ticked, though I'm unsure what that setting is for. I enter the phone number, the authorization name (ex. me@myispdotnet) and pretty much choose the default settings for the rest of the modem and provider set up. It shows kernel interface: modem 0. I let YaST finish configuring it, and I see kinternet icon and click on it and it dials up successfully, all lights on my modem are lit up, the icon plug is joined, and I can see it try to ping but fails (I can't surf in konqueror or firefox). When I look at kinternet log, it states name server failureno name server found in /etc/resolv.confI know how to use wvdial so I tried that alternative dial up tool and it also says name server not found.
I tried adding the SUSE nameservers in the network device set up GUI as it has a place to add two nameservers, but when I did that, the modem wouldn't dial out. When I logged back into openSUSE, there was no kinternet icon in the bottom toolbar, so I clicked on kinternet under applications, and it said:Error KinternetConnection to local and remote server refused. Maybe your smppd is not running or you are not a member of group dial out.I went to YaST>system services and smppd enabled yes. I also checked user settings and I am a member of group for dialout.That is the only group I am a member of as I didn't want to change anything there, not yet. I tried reconfiguring my modem again to see if I could get kinternet up and running, but it wouldn't show up in the bottom bar and the error above would show whenever I clicked on kinternet under applications.
The only how to I found was this, but I don't know how to edit a read-only file in openSUSE. I'm familair with kdesu and gksu, but not using vi to edit a read only file.as I have been spending hours on this and getting no where. If kppp worked, I'd install it and use it, but I need a connection first to get it. But I guess if wvdial doesn't work, then kppp won't either until the nameserver issue is resolved.Should I edit the resolv.conf file and add the nameservers manually? Again, I'm not sure how to do this as root in openSUSE.
Why does it take almost 700 MB of automatic changes when trying to one-click install qinternet (223 KB?) I Got to the forum to ask this question by using rcsmpppd and then wvdial. Those programs are ok but they provide no progress bar/speed meter.
Also does anyone know why qinternet was dropped from the 11.4 - KDE distro? What a pain for us poor old 56K modem bound souls here in the sticks of Texas! Hope you meet some of you at the Texas LinuxFest, April 2,2011 at the Hilton-downtown!

copy it to Document folder, unzip it and get a folder named seamonkey.
Everytime to launch it, i open the terminal windows, cd to that directory and type ./seamonkey.
My question is, how to launch it from any where? Just type ./seamonkey and it will run?
I have downloaded Ubuntu within windows 7, with wubi. It shows itself as Ubuntu 10.10, though I had selected 11.04, not to worry, this is for information only. I downloaded Q Cad, a drawing programme from the Ubuntu software centre and it shows in the list but I do not know how to launch it.I will have to down load some more applications and I think I will run into this wall again. I can enter CLI through Ctrl+Alt+F1 to F7 and probably do nothing more.

Sadly my other communities seem to be dying and this one is going strong so here I am! I'm sure there's something I'm doing incorrectly, but here's my scenario:
I have a pair of shell scripts that launch SSH sessions with different forwarded ports, and use them multiple times each day. I'd like to drag the shell script directly onto the top Ubuntu Bar where shortcuts go and be able to use it. Or, even better, put all of my frequently used shell scripts in a "drawer". I know that I used to be able to make a shortcut, and set its path to "gnome-terminal -e file://xx.sh" and the script would run in a new terminal window. When I try to do this, a terminal opens with an error dialog that reads "There was an error creating the child process for this terminal". Permissions?
I run 10.10, netbook. Fine so far. I don't manage to call an application that I added manually, though. I have created a menu item, with all subdetails, a proper command, icon, everything. And I can see it in the menu editor, and it is there, even after a reboot. But: How to launch it?? It never shows up under applications, it doesn't show up in Searches, I can't type it in. It does work fine, though, when I open a terminal and add the proper command. It then also shows in the launcher list (left column). But it can't make it 'stick' there, the right-click option does not show in this case.

I'm trying to launch CoverGloobus (a fantastic little album art and current song display) and Rhythmbox simultaneously through a BASH script. Problem is that when I attempt to run the script the first time, CoverGloobus doesn't launch, but Rhythmbox does. Here's my script as it is right now:

I've double-checked the commands in gnome-terminal, and they're the right ones for launching the applications. Here's where it gets odd, though. The second time I run the script, CoverGloobus and Rhythmbox launch simultaneously. I've reproduced this scenario multiple times.
I have a laptop running Ubuntu hooked up to a TV via a VGA to S-Video converter with the VGA-out through an external monitor, and I am trying to find a way to set vlc or mplayer to open fullscreen in the external monitor by default. Eventually I want to be able to hit enter on a video file and have it play on the TV without any dragging to the external monitor. I have googled around a bit, checked the monitor settings options, and looked through the media player options but so far can't find anything.
