Ubuntu :: Software Sources Tab Missing From Main Menu?
Sep 18, 2010went to update the software sources and it's gone from System/Preferences/Main Menu/Administration tried to add it back and I think I have the right file targeted (usr/bin/software-properties-gtk) but after adding it I can't open it from the Main Menu without root, I used to be able to open this after passwording in,get it back properly in that main menu?

Dec 4, 2010i am using 10.04 now and installed many softwares in it,i want to upgrade to 10.10,i dont have broadband so i cant upgrade via online.. going to use cd only,how to get all softwares which i already installed in 10.04.i think there is no option in cd for upgrade without new installation.. is there any option to get all sources of softwares in my system and to install it after installing 10.10.

May 16, 2011I've got the following problem: I just noticed that there were just very few notifications about updating the system (usually there are damn many of them in a week) So I opened the update manager and clicked on "refresh list". The following result popped up: p,li{white-space:pre-wrap;}E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found First I thought, it would be just some kind of server problem, but it didn't stop. The next thing was to research the thread and I even found something. However, the solution suggested didn't work at all. (Things, which might have caused this: I installed the default software center |I'm using Kubuntu, but in this case that fact doesn't matter| and used it. To sum up:
- not able to update the system referring to the launchpad main sources for 11.04
- following error: E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found It would be great if this was a common issue and I've been simply too stupid to find a proper solution. So you could just post the link.

Apr 21, 2010I am running Jolicloud on my netbook (which I believe is an Ubuntu derivative) and I am tried to enter the getdeb.net sources in so I can install apps from the website through APT but
1) When I entered the sources into sources.list and then the key into Terminal and then went to the site and tried to install an app it didn't work.
2) I deleted the line of code in the sources.list file and when I opened terminal and entered "sudo apt-get update" it showed the list of sources, but on the list were Getdeb.net sources.
My question is how do I delete sources that aren't in /etc/apt/sources.list ?

May 23, 2010This is a bit of an odd problem that's been happening to me recently. My home folder is a version of Fedora old, I've been using the same one between Fedora 11 and 12 (which I'm now using).
When booting up, I notice that my system fonts are not the ones I have manually set. They're the ugly version, whatever exact font it is. It's only when I select System->Appearances from the menu that the system seems to detect my seletions to use Liberation fonts in all areas, and then everything instantly switches to the more visually pleasing Liberation fonts. This is a strange bug, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or can point me in the right direction?
OpenSUSE Install :: Broken System After Install Of Kernel Sources And Restart?
May 29, 2011I had recently installed the kernel sources so that I could compile the VirtualBox kernel module to use well but I had not restarted afterwards. I had been using my system problem free until tonight when I decided to restart. I had no internet connection and through ifconfig showing only lo and ifup eth0 returning "device eth0 is not accessible", I discovered I had a bigger problem than at first thought. Then I discovered that no PCI devices other than video were working, and so I referred to /var/log/messages and discoverd a line stating that "/lib/modules/2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop/modules.dep : no such file or directory.
All other entries in that directory were some version of 2.6.37.1-1.2.

Nov 5, 2010I've just installed the xubuntu GUI on my ubuntu server and by default I only see Applications and Places on my top panel. There is no option to add the system menu under "Add new items", so I'm curious as to how to go about it.
On a side note, is there a way I can have the system boot into the original command prompt by default, and how can I enable and disable the GUI at my convenience?

Jun 20, 2010I just upgraded my Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.04. Part of the Ubuntu 9.10 installation was GParted (version 0.4.5) and I saw, after upgrading to Ubutnu 10.04, there was a more recent version available: 0.5.1.
After installing that version, GParted was still part of the System > Administration menu (just as it was before).
But then I saw the version 0.6.0 of GParted was recently released and there was also a .deb distro available.
After downloading and installing the 0.6.0 version of GParted, the item GParted disappeared from the System > Administration menu and appeared in another menu (Applications > System Tools).
My question: how can I get GParted back as part of the Systems > Administrations menu?

Sep 15, 2010Well like the title Implies, In my Administration menu in Gnome I don't have a "Printing" option. So I can't search for/install printers right now.I'm running 10.04 Server. I installed the gnome-desktop-environment package to get a GUI up and running for manipulating the filesystem, But not all the menu's I was expecting appeared. Is this because I used the gnome-desktop-environment instead of the ubuntu-desktop-environment package? ecause I have two PC's setup next to each other. One using the ubuntu-desktop-environment, and one using the gnome-desktop-environment package and the two desktops are clearly different.All I want to know is how to add the Printers menu to my PC running the gnome-desktop-environment package. I already looked at gconf-editor and the printing menu isn't hidden or anything, it's just not there. And me being a new user to Linux, I don't know how else to get to those printer abilities without the GUI

Nov 22, 2010I just upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10. I originally had installed the nvidia drivers using the bash script from nvidia's website. This time around I used the ones from synaptic. However now when I go and look in System -> Administration there are 2 entries for "NVIDIA X Server Settings". The first one has the NVIDIA logo, the other one has a grey question mark. Does anyone know why there are 2 entries and how I can remove one of them?
