After a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 and having installed a bunch of apps, I wanted to adjust the main menu but have found that I can't actually launch the main menu from the System / Preferences menu. Nothing happens.ried typing the Main Menu command alacarte into terminal, and I get the following read out.

I recently managed to install it on a PC alongside Windows XP (seperate hard disk's). Anyways I downloaded AVG 8.5.732 (avg85flx-r732-a3168.i386.deb) and installed the package (Synaptic Package Manager lists it as being installed) but I can't find in the Ubuntu Software Centre nor can I find it in the system/main menu list.

View 1 Replies View Relatedupgrading to the latest kernel, which my Ubuntu 10.04 did automatically, I cannot shutdown, suspend, or restart from the main menu.In other words, I click ubuntu logo on the taskbar, click Shutown and select Shut Down or any of the remaining 2 options, but nothing happens. Just the menu window disappears.I had adjusted the power button of my notebook to shut down the computer and this works now.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 kernel 2.6.31-22-generic.On the boot menu, I have the option to run 2.6.32-24, but after the log in screen, nothing happens.No panels show up.I can cntl+alt+delete and shutdown, but thats it.I do have an older Nvidia card that might be contributing.

I have already done a lot but I need help in continuing my endeavour., I come here, having Googled my query and receiving no help, to ask you lot.The icons on the main menu (the one that only has the black Ubuntu logo; not the default three menu one) looks simply vulgar so I want to remove them. View 2 Replies View RelatedAlright so I recently started using Cardapio with the intent of replacing the panels with a single dock. The only thing left to do is to replace the docky icon with the cardapio menu. Apparently there is a key in the gconf-editor apps/docky-2/Docky/Items/DockyItem that can be used to change what the docky icon does. I am unable to find the folder DockyItems in the hierarchy. I added both the folder and the key but it makes no change. I'm using the latest Docky build and Ubuntu 10.10 so things may have changed since the write-ups on how to do this. Has anyone successfully added the menu functionality with the latest versions or at least figured out where the DockyItems went to? its the last thing I'm changing on my desktop... PS. Is there any way to add the notification area/user logout to the dock as well?

Some apps that I have installed using Synaptic (Kpackage seems pretty useless, even aside from the fact that the package names are illegible) are not showing up in the Search and Launch, and I would also like to add an additional category and add some items to the favorites list at the top of the page.
Right clicking does not seem to provide any options to change what used to be the menus, and middle clicking puts strange little yellow boxes at the bottom of the screen. (I haven't figured out how to make those go away.What config files hold the data I want to update? Are they not under ~/.kde for some reason?
What I'd like to do is get rid of all panels and use Docky exclusively. In order for that to happen I'd need at least 1 thing that I cant seem to add to Docky and cant seem to find a current answer to.1. I need a Main menu option. No need for "Places" because everything in that menu can be done from inside a window. I need "Applications" and "System". Applications - because I don't want to forget I have something or forget a name.ystem - because I need to get to Preferences and Administration.
