I've installed Lucide Lynx notebook remix on my laptop. But, I don't like the panel that covers the full desktop.
Hence, I would like to see the classic drop-down menu?
How can I get it?
'm about to order an iPod 160gb classic and I was wondering if it plays nice with Iucid lynx and which song management app your using. I made use of the search functions and most posts that deal with the classic are a few years old. Just wanted to see if syncing the classic has been made easier in the past few years.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAs Unity have too much serious regressions to be usable desktop (I'll list some so maybe somebody could get an idea what to change for Ocelot 1110 edition):desktop switcher is obnoxious for somebody who is used to having 8-12 virtual desktops and to see in system tray what desktop is taken and what desktop is free. I do not see Pidgin icon in system tray anymore. And I hate (not dislike, but hate) Empathy, so I do not want to hear "Install Empathy". Have empathy for users who just want their apps in system tray! Launcher is bugged. I added Synaptic to it, place in launcher was taken, but there was no icon until restart. I added dconf-editor, there was no icon for it also after restart. weather applet is no more part of date/time tray indicator, but you can install it separately. Yes, you can install it separately, but you can not add your location, and that applet is not smart enough to read your old settings of weather and 1-5 locations for time zones should I go further? In short, 1104 is stable but default login (Unity) is not functional. It is better than M$ Vista which was not stable, but I expected that Ubuntu would adhere to higher standards than one shitty commercial company which wants only money of users and therefore rushed non-functional software to market.
My question (finally): In Ubuntu classic items I added to right click menu using nautilus-actions are not there anymore. They are still present in Nautilus, but not in desktop right-click menu. I googled a bit and found zilch, so I ask here. Please share how to do it (scripts folder is still there, but that would be regression to be unable to edit right click menu, FFS Ubuntu is not proprietary software so we would be helpless and could not tweak our favorite OS how we like it).
I had to finally give up Unity because my little netbook was running so slow. However, I loved the global menu because it freed some valuable screen space. In classic, I can't figure out how to get the close/max/min/title into the panel/global menu like it is default in Unity. Is there a way?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am wondering how you can change the view of the classic GNOME menu (Applications | Places | System) in 11.3 to the "classic" view (like in Fedora)? The Applications menu has to much sub-menus. I prefer it flat. The nautilus bookmarks are not directly accessible in Places either, which is not really comfortable.

This is now gone in the final release and the old school layout is back. How can I get the global menu back in classic mode? I really liked it and would like to turn it back on.

I just moved to this new version of the O.S but have noticed considerable processor use when I open the Ubuntu software centre. When getting apps from here my processor goes bad. Sometimes freezing the whole system. I tried using XFCE 11.04 booting from a usb and get the same experience. How can I make this stop happening and make my system work quicker and smoother.

I was using lucid since beta 2 without problems, but since few days I can't get a menu when I click on the right mouse button. Doesn't work on the desktop or when for example I want to rename a file using the right mouse button. Is this a bug from gnome or a new properties?

I installed Lucid server to a Dell R210. I configured grub during the install process and I see /boot/grub/grub.cfg is fully populated. However, when I boot my machine no grub menu appears. How do I get the grub menu to appear?

Ubuntu Lucid not all the icons in the menus on the panel at the top of the screen are there any more.how do I get those back? I really miss my bookmarks icon, and the icons in the system menu. I don't care if the icons are there by default, I just want the choice of whether or not they are displayed.

These worked fine in Karmic, but now when I select them, playback freezes on any menu, and I have to kill the front end process. Mythtv is set to use the internal player, but I have the same issue with VLC.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThis is a bit of an odd problem that's been happening to me recently. My home folder is a version of Fedora old, I've been using the same one between Fedora 11 and 12 (which I'm now using).
When booting up, I notice that my system fonts are not the ones I have manually set. They're the ugly version, whatever exact font it is. It's only when I select System->Appearances from the menu that the system seems to detect my seletions to use Liberation fonts in all areas, and then everything instantly switches to the more visually pleasing Liberation fonts. This is a strange bug, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or can point me in the right direction?
A few days ago, after I made some changes on my lucid system, hibernation is not possible any more, that is, if I choose hibernation, everything seems to go fine but at the next boot, the image is not read by the kernel and normal boot happens. Hibernation is very important to me, what can I do go get it back ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an AMD64 system, which I recently upgraded to Lucid 10.04. The system now fails to boot after the upgrade. Recovery mode makes no difference.
When I attempt to boot, I get a series of messages about file systems needing checking, and also some messages from ureadahead-other. (process terminated status 4), though a post here says that status 4 is in fact not an error.
I have sucessfully booted the Lucid desktop install CD in live CD mode, mounted the filesystems, and started parts of my system in a chroot. In that system I tried running an update, and removing plymouth, but it made no difference. how I can get my system working.
I did take a backup of /etc before I upgraded, so I could get back to a karmic install, but the pain in doing so would be considerable, so I would prefer to avoid that if possible.
