Ubuntu Servers :: Installing Package On Ec Image
Feb 5, 2011
This is on a cloud instance of maverick 64bit.In using cloud init to install a package (also does not work manually) I receive the following error.issuing an update with --fix-missing also does not work. I do notice, however this is trying to hit ec2.archive. For iperf I don't know that it needs to be ec2 specific. To my knowledge this worked a few weeks ago. Also, where it is easy enough on a Desktop version of maverick to simply switch sources for the upgrades/updates I have not found how to specify a new url (i.e. Duke University vs. MIT) The repositories I am happy with just the location of the repositories. On this particular cloud image is it even safe to leave ec2 as it is a specialized stripped down image.

I need to install the following dependencies for synspam on Ubuntu 9.10 karmic server:
Code:
sudo aptitude install nfqueue-bindings-perl libsys-syslog-perl libappconfig-perl libnetpacket-perl libnetaddr-ip-perl
dpkg -i synspam_version_all.deb
Of these, only libnetpacket-perl is not packaged for Ubuntu 9.10 karmic.
Is this functionality present in another 9.10 package with a different name? 10.04 Lucid does have the package: [URL]

I am running into a small bit of difficulty with images I want to use in a Java program, keeping them bundled with the program in a JAR file and accessing them within the package. For those who are thinking it, this is definitely not homework. In my program, I have several images I would like to use on buttons on a toolbar.I have Googled, and I found something that comes close, but it deals with fetching images from a URL - nothing that deals with local files, more specifically, local images kept inside of a JARchive.

today I've tried to activate nautilus-converter-image package. due to some package's requirement I've thougth download last release about glib, pango and nautilus... trying install them I've got some errors (here, I've also give an ldconfig command) so at the end I've resigned and decided didn't install nautilus-converter-image. Thinking about replace original package I've reinstall the original. but after reboot when I clik "computer" o "network" icons in nautilus I get an error message like this.(translating) <Nautilus can't handle place "Computer" or "network">
Also I've seen when insert a media usb storage, I can't see in nautilus that device mounted, and also in /media is not present...Ok I know I has been too much superficial... but now It's really annoying problem..

In light of my previous achievement in wireless networking, I've decided to create a larger issue for myself to solve. Which hopefully I can get some help with. Because my system is totally kisspoped up, for those of you who get what that means. I was trying to install GRUB via the .txz package and it created a mirrored image of the /boot folder. Which for some reason contained the / folder. Which in turn held /boot and all the other folders / is expected to contain.
Now, trying to remove the extra /boot folder proved difficult, but once I finally was able to figure it out, I remembered I could removepkg and that would probably mend the situation. However, I was already 20-something percent through moving the files to trash. Now when I checked /, /boot was gone from there. Along with various other folders. SO! Apparently the /tmp/boot folder created was in reality the /boot folder, albeit in the wrong place and having the wrong contents. Somehow, one folder existed as two different versions of itself at the same point in time. Much as a Time Lord might. Deleting one made the other vanish with it.
Good news:I removed it via Thunar and it should be in the root user's trash /home and some other folders had yet to be trashed when I hit cancel, so I can still use some things Bad news:I never ran X as root, so I don't know if it HAS a trash folder I can only use things already started up because the binaries are gone, but the configuration files in /home are still there (although /usr/bin remains)
Ideally, there would be a big UNDO button somewhere in this long row of function keys. Reasonably, there should be some kind of restoration tool. Realistically, I think I'm going to have to reinstall the system, which wasn't easy in the first place due to my faulty disc bay which detects discs at will.

Just install xubuntu today and I saw the beautiful "xubuntu" loading screen image when the computer boots up. I also see this screen when the laptop shuts down. However after installing the proprietary Catalyst drivers for my laptop, that boot image was replaced with just a plain text "XUBUNTU 11.04" and a few lines of text. It looks ugly everytime I boot the laptop.

Here's a trick I'd like to be able to do. You know how on Windows systems, you can copy the contents of the install disk to a folder, then point the system at it and when it would normally ask you to insert your Windows CD, it just reads that folder?
That's pretty much what I want to do. I want to put the contents of the Ubuntu CD-ROM on the HDD such that if I ever need to refer to the CD, it thinks it's already inserted and just reads from there.
This may sound like an odd request, but I'm asking because my Linux server is an old cheapo computer that doesn't have an internal CD-ROM drive. I have one that I can hook up, but it's a pain in the butt to open the case, set the jumpers, attach the drive, reboot, etc.
This would be a lot simpler for me. This way, if I ever need to access something that was on the Ubuntu Server CD-ROM, I want to be able to just get it from right on the hard disk. (I've got the drive space, after all.)

I need GD for image viewing with PHP. On the PHP web site it says I have to recompile PHP --with GD. However in the user comments someone said that with Debian use apt-get install php5-gd and that will work. Well I tried that and I still do not have GD available. Is there something I missed with the apt-get method or do I have to recompile PHP?

The best way to install it is using CPAN repos. And it gives whole lot of errors. I am attaching the file for errors.
But if try to install from cpan console it says Image::Magick is already the recent version.

I was using a 3g iPod nano which was supported by my flavor of Ubuntu . However, recently I have acquired a 4g iPod Touch and to my dismay, it is not supported on my OS. After doing some research, I discovered that Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx supports all the newer generation Apple products, including my 4g iPod Touch. Is there anyway I can install this package without reformatting my computer COMPLETELY over again? Are there any easier ways to be able to sync my ipod with my computer?

Debian Wheezy upgraded to Jessie. I can't install my grsec kernel. I did everything exactly like they say on website: [URL] ....
patching: grsecurity-3.0-3.2.66-201502180830.patch and linux-3.2.66 -o.k
then ''make menuconfig'': Configuration Method - Automatic (for virtualbox hosting) -o.k
compiling the kernel: 'fakeroot make deb-pkg' -o.k
and last step, installing new kernel : ''dpkg -i *.deb'' -not o.k
Below is the output from executing command : dpkg -i *.deb which supposed to install 3.2.66-grsec linux-image:
root@debian:/home/userone/Downloads/grsecurity.net/1# ls
grsecurity-3.0-3.2.66-201502180830.patch
linux-3.2.66
linux-firmware-image_3.2.66-grsec-1_amd64.deb
linux-headers-3.2.66-grsec_3.2.66-grsec-1_amd64.deb
[Code] ....
After restarting, old kernel is booting, however from booting menu under advanced GNU/Linux options i can choice 3.2.66-grsec linux-image to boot, unfortunately it 'panics' (kernel panic - not syncing: grsec: halting the system due to suspicious kernel crash caused by root) and only way to turn off the computer is to hold down power button.

I know it exists for Jaunty, but not Karmic. My question is just simply, how can I download this package, and can I just use Synaptic to install it without any problems? Any detailed documentation about installing "obsolete" packages and their dependencies? Perhaps is there some way to get my system to emulate Jaunty, I can install the package, then go back to Karmic?

I am using ubuntu for a month. Yesterday i tried to upgrade it from 9.10 to 10.0. Then i had to shut down the pc for electricity failure. After that ubuntu came into halt in boot time and something like recovery shell came. It advised me to use "fsck" and i did that. All were again fine (Except some icon goes from left to right ). Then today i was trying to install "Virtuabox" and it says i need to remove "devicekit-power" package. i did it with synaptic package manager ( with my newbie wisdom , didn't knew it would crample my system ). Then the Empathy gone, shut down button gone ). I then installed some lost package
- gnome power manager
- indicator session
- indicator applet session
but ubuntu-desktop package is not installing. Whenever i try it says to fix broken package and i tried the option in synaptic, but no luck. also tried in recovery mode to fix broken package but it says the same. now i got the empathy and the green sign back ( after installing those 3 package ) but not like it was ( they are now separated , and uglier ). Same problem installing devicekit-power package. it says it is not in repository.
1. Did the 10.0 failure upgrade was behind this thing?
2. Any help installing Virtuabox? it first installs fine ( downloaded deb package ). then it tries to download some extra packages and always fails to download them. tried in command shell as instructed in its website and also treid in ubuntu soft centre but no luck.
3. Is there any way i can install the missing ubuntu-desktop and devicekit thing?
4. Would be very glad if someone tell me about a linux soft that protect my system from my wild exploration and destruction
