i gotta install ubuntu on 5-6 machines , The latest iso image does not offer me package upgarde (the one you get after apt-get update and dist-upgrade) . its about 300 Mb which would be a pain for downloading on different machines.. Is there a way to slip these into the iso image.

I don't remember exactly what the error message is, but I think it said that I should have system > 13 to install that packages. What should I do so next time I do yum update I just offered packages I needed only?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI noticed this weekend that I began experiencing wireless issues with the NIC (Intel 5300) on my laptop. I have had no problems with the wireless using several Ubuntu versions. This began after I installed the packages associated with the Update Manager last Friday, which included the 2.6.32-25.43 kernel update. My wireless will drop out anywhere from 10 seconds to a couple minutes later after connecting to my router. Again, I have not have any wireless issues before. Below is the end of dmesg when I enable the device.

to see all the packages installed in my Ubuntu. The question is that I want to uninstall the latest package but there's no date in the package list made by the command "dpkg -l". so how can I do that?
I'm just curious if this link:[URL}which downloads it in tar form has the most recent version of dvb-apps.I recently noticed a sudo apt-get install dvb-apps option, and from what it sounds like, it's a much older version. Can anybody confirm this?The other thing though is when I successfully install the tar package, why if I try sudo apt-get install dvb-apps is it wanting to install it, as if the tar was never installed?

I have extracte the folder to Documents: Cd/ to the folder and run the ./configure command and get this message: No package 'pygtk-2.0' found
I have checked the install files and edited the lines which contain the above to now read pygtk -2.0 >=2.8 as 2.8 is the version of python I have installed. In package manager it only goes back to v2.2.
How I can get around this error?

I want to install latest downloaded package of openssh v 5.6(tar.gz) from original site but not succeed.
steps followed:
1. remove rpm with: rpm -e openssh-ser....rpm
2. extract package, go into directory and run ./configure command

I do notice, however this is trying to hit ec2.archive. For iperf I don't know that it needs to be ec2 specific. To my knowledge this worked a few weeks ago. Also, where it is easy enough on a Desktop version of maverick to simply switch sources for the upgrades/updates I have not found how to specify a new url (i.e. Duke University vs. MIT) The repositories I am happy with just the location of the repositories.On this particular cloud image is it even safe to leave ec2 as it is a specialized stripped down image.

I have a Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS graphics card, so I attempted to load the latest driver. That landed me in Low Graphics Hell, where I couldn't change the resolution (even when a better one was offered) because I couldn't get to the bottom of the screen to get to 'Apply.' I had down loaded 10.04 and burned a couple of CDs, and I attempted to upgrade. But neither the Update Manager or CD worked because I couldn't get far enough down the update screen. After a long struggle, I have a reasonable resolution, with the Nividia x server running.
Now, when I try to up date, 10.04 is no longer offered to me, either by the Update Manager or the CD. Apparently, I've used up all of my chances to upgrade. What now?

View 4 Replies View Relatedtoday I've tried to activate nautilus-converter-image package. due to some package's requirement I've thougth download last release about glib, pango and nautilus... trying install them I've got some errors (here, I've also give an ldconfig command) so at the end I've resigned and decided didn't install nautilus-converter-image. Thinking about replace original package I've reinstall the original. but after reboot when I clik "computer" o "network" icons in nautilus I get an error message like this.(translating) <Nautilus can't handle place "Computer" or "network">
Also I've seen when insert a media usb storage, I can't see in nautilus that device mounted, and also in /media is not present...Ok I know I has been too much superficial... but now It's really annoying problem..
I am running ubuntu 11.04. I am able to set my screen size to 1600x1200 in windows but ubuntu doesn't offer me that size in xrandr, though it says my maximum size is 4096x4096, I have posted my xrandr results below. What do I do to set my screen to the higher resolution?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIn light of my previous achievement in wireless networking, I've decided to create a larger issue for myself to solve. Which hopefully I can get some help with. Because my system is totally kisspoped up, for those of you who get what that means. I was trying to install GRUB via the .txz package and it created a mirrored image of the /boot folder. Which for some reason contained the / folder. Which in turn held /boot and all the other folders / is expected to contain.
Now, trying to remove the extra /boot folder proved difficult, but once I finally was able to figure it out, I remembered I could removepkg and that would probably mend the situation. However, I was already 20-something percent through moving the files to trash. Now when I checked /, /boot was gone from there. Along with various other folders. SO! Apparently the /tmp/boot folder created was in reality the /boot folder, albeit in the wrong place and having the wrong contents. Somehow, one folder existed as two different versions of itself at the same point in time. Much as a Time Lord might. Deleting one made the other vanish with it.
Good news:I removed it via Thunar and it should be in the root user's trash /home and some other folders had yet to be trashed when I hit cancel, so I can still use some things Bad news:I never ran X as root, so I don't know if it HAS a trash folder I can only use things already started up because the binaries are gone, but the configuration files in /home are still there (although /usr/bin remains)
Ideally, there would be a big UNDO button somewhere in this long row of function keys. Reasonably, there should be some kind of restoration tool. Realistically, I think I'm going to have to reinstall the system, which wasn't easy in the first place due to my faulty disc bay which detects discs at will.
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 (desktop version) and it performs flawlessly. Now I want to add a second hard drive to the same box, install Ubuntu 9.10 *server* on it, and use GRUB to control which one boots.
Problem is, I'm a Windows pro but a Linux n00b. Should I disconnect the first hard drive (the one with Ubuntu desktop) before I do the server installation on the second (new) drive? Also, how do I edit GRUB's menu to offer a choice between the 2 OSes?
I will try to keep this straight-forward. Yesterday I was able to access an ubuntu 10.10 (edubuntu) desktop using the tightVNC viewer that I installed on my Vista laptop. I never set anything up on the desktop it just worked and I didn't question it.
Today I get the following error on the viewer software: "Server did not offer supported security type" The only thing that has changed was that I installed a bunch of updates yesterday afternoon, but I am not sure what changed.
